I never actually spoke to anyone after reading that letter. I also interviewed in February, was placed on hold list, and then received the letter a week or so later saying they fully anticipated offering me acceptance. I have a friend in my program who also received this same letter, and she was just offered acceptance yesterday! So there is some movement!! Everyone keep your chin up!! 🙂

Is it only the people who interviewed in February who got that letter? I interviewed in December, and hadn't heard anything at all, even after I sent a few updates along the way, until I asked about my status and was told I was on the "high hold" list. I was told that the "high hold" was the highest category they had, but if that's the case, why did only February people receive the letter? Also, it seems the people who received the letter are the only ones they've been accepting off the wait list so far (based on what I'm reading on this forum). That being the case, it leads me to think there may actually be two "high hold" categories: those with a letter (/interviewed in February?) and those without. Any thoughts, anyone?

Don't look too deep into things. Maybe it was and maybe it wasn't. They have no incentive to lie to you either way. Don't sweat the small stuff. 😉

Yeah, I'm probably crazy for thinking about this too much... lol

I wish there was a way to know how high we are. I hope the first half of the large waitlist does not equal high :/

sable, a friend of mine who interviewed in late march and then waitlisted did not receive that email or ask about his status and was accepted off the waitlist last monday. So apparently he was probably higher on the WL than many who received that email. Just for info purposes 🙂

Thanks. That partially allays my fears. I'm really hoping I get in.

So, I think one of my personal goals is to have this thread get over 1000 posts. That should be doable right?

I noticed I had thread mentioned twice...had to change that. One more week and then summer clinical practicum. Weeeeeeeeeeeee. Then I will do research and probably drop in and annoy all you guys since a bunch of my friends are anatomy TAs.

Haha awesome. You'll have to show me around Tally

That won't take too long. 😉 There is plenty of stuff but most people tend to live in a little bubble at the COM and rarely go outside of that. I always try to get people to go to other places and always fail. 😛

I think I'll go crazy if I never leave, so I'll go on adventures with you.

There are about 4 or 5 bars that people ALWAYS go to in groups. You can usually tell where it will be by where the night starts. I don't know how your class will be, but a lot in my class are really into the getting dressed up and going to the places that try to appeal to the south florida crowd....or they go to AJs.

I always try to get people to go to some places with tons of good beer and tables to talk, but that never seems to fly. Lots of ridiculously loud music type places or if they go to a place with tables, it is one that I feel like I have to dress up and wait in line to get into. Nothing wrong with that, but honestly after a long week I don't always WANT to do that. I rather throw on jeans and a tshirt and wander to a hole in the wall with 200 different beers. 😛

Has anyone heard anything recently?? I am hoping for some more movement soon! 🙂

I haven't heard much. My friend interviewed last Friday. That is all I know. I'm sure there has been. The next big movement day will happen after May 15.

So do they offer acceptances to a whole raft of people at once after the two deadlines (April and May 15th), but few in-between? (I guess what I'm asking is since I haven't been called yet, I shouldn't get my hopes up before May 15th...?)

Your guess is as good as mine. I'm kind of extrapolating with the information given to me. I see it as a small burst right after April 15 since FSU wants to start getting an idea how the class is shaping up. Now, all that is really doing is saying, "Hey, I'm not going to come here." or "Hey, I'm coming here unless I hear something else". That second pool is the one that starts moving after May 15. As one kid decides to go to Harvard instead of Johns Hopkins, another kid who was going to attend Vandy gets called and heads off to Hopkins. That vandy spot is filled by someone who was going to attend WFU. That WFU spot is filled by someone who was going to attend UMiami. That Miami spot gets filled by someone who was going to attend FSU. That FSU spot is now open.

You could sub in any schools you'd like. 😉

Last year, there were people that evidently didn't notify FSU they were going somewhere else and didn't show up for orientation. One girl was accepted on the third or fourth day of orientation.

At Open House, Dana told me that the last day for acceptances off the wait list was May 28th, although I would imagine that if there are still unfilled seats after that date, they'll still be accepting people. I can't see them leaving a seat empty that could potentially be filled. I've got my fingers crossed that I'll get in. FSU is my #1 choice. I'd really love to go.

I interviewed at FSU last week and was so pleasantly surprised and impressed with their facilities, curriculum, and student satisfaction with the program! Hopefully i'll be lucky enough to join those of you already accepted or waiting for a spot so that I can wear my Gator shirts to Noles games 😀 Does anyone know what the turnaround time for a response might be this time of interview season at FSU?
Thanks & good luck to everyone waiting for a response and to those on the WL! :xf:

Nearly half the class is from UF each year, so you wouldn't be the only one. They have the FSU med shirts in orange and blue. I went to PSU for undergrad and went to one FSU game and was in pain the entire time. Everyone thinks their undergrad was better if they had a D1 team to cheer for that is.

As far as the other part, they do let spots go but only if it is way too late to fill them. My class is currently at 118. We have one girl that'll be in the class of 2014. We lost another guy sometime. Someone was talking about how there is a picture with him in it and they never even remembered seeing him. My guess is he got off a list somewhere else and went there. I don't know when orientation festivities start for sure, but the 28th seems pretty reasonable.

Thanks for the info! I'm not much of a football fan anyways (went to 2 games in all of undergrad 😳 ), an FSU sticker would look just fine next to the UF sticker on my car 🙂
What happens to the finances paid to FSU when a person decides to leave mid summer for another school they were accepted to?

Most people haven't paid until midsummer. The loans don't clear until about halfway through. If you drop out at that point, then you lose your money just like in undergrad. If you accept your seat it is something like a 30 dollar application fee. I remember it being the happiest check I ever wrote. I actually lost out on a 2,000 dollar deposit for where I was going to attend before I got in. Even with that 2,000 dollar hit, it was still over 20,000 dollars cheaper of a year than if I attended the other school.

a friend here at USF, we're all in a MASTER'S OF medical sciences program, got the same "high hold email", and were waitlisted, but she got accepted today 🙂 give me hope!! 🙂

Way to go!! Another USF Bull up in Tallahassee!! I hope you get in as well!!

I will wear my usf stuff with pride up there 😀

Count me into. I get bored at loud/obnoxious bars so I wouldnt mind exploring the area.

You know, I can't believe it has been a year since this whole fiasco was going on with me.

To everyone else, things are a bit more complicated as well. You guys kind of got a slightly shorter end of the stick since our class is now officially 118 instead of 120 with the 2 others going to be in your class. Before you guys even started applying it was already down to 119 spots available. 2 weeks ago we had one girl postpone until next year and is redoing the spring semester.

I am actually one of them. I was interviewed at FSU on May 1st and accepted into c/o 2013 around May 12, 2009 but i deferred due to an accident. FSU was fully aware that I was hurt but they accepted me anyway and they granted my deferment to this year after i requested it.
I think once I deferred a spot open up and didnt you (MossPoh) get accepted a few days afterward. 😀

There were a few acceptances after your deferment. 😉 I don't think you were one that dipped out leaving 119 though. I think that happened after the point of no return when class started. 😛

Don't let this thread fall to the second page. I hate it when that happens. Yes, I like to pad the thread and keep it high up on the list.

20 now!!

Is there a list of of student organizations FSUCOM have? or is there any popular ones? I want to be active the first year.. meeting new people, get involved in projects ... etc

There isn't a list, but trust me that isn't a problem. I found myself in so many organizations and then I just never wanted to go any of them after my lunchtime being taken up every day.

Surgery and anesthesiology interest group
Opthalmology interest group
pediatrics interest group
geriatrics interest group
family medicine interest group
rural health interest group
international medicine interest group
students interested in global health
FSU Cares
AMSA
SMNA
christian medical association (or something)
Maimonides
sports medicine interest group
student government
obgyn interest group
I can't remember what the neurology interest group is....I know it isn't "Neurology interest group" because that could cause problems.
Every FSU club
Wilderness Medicine Interest Group
Emergency medicine interest group

Those are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head. I'd honestly urge you to find 2 or so organizations you really like and dedicate time to those. School is far more important than being tied up with meetings all the time. They also send out emails to everyone about everything.

I go to surgery, emergency med and sports med a lot. I wouldn't say I know any second years from those events. I know a lot of my class wants to go out of their way to meet first years and those will be the ones you know best. My best M2 friends are from random events or were TAs for anatomy. Being active is important for one's sanity, but it is also good to realize that most residency programs don't give a damn about what interest groups you are in or shadowing you did early on. You do that because it mixes things up.

This summer I'm doing research. Right now it is neuro based research, and I may add on a hospice/palliative care project. I have no interest in pursuing either of those fields, but it allows me to refine skills, possibly get some papers published and make a few bucks.

Got the email that I was accepted today!! So excited!! 🙂 whoo hooo!!! hang in there if you're on the waitilist! 🙂

Congrats. Still grumpy?

lol "grumpy" is a high school track nickname 🙂 But noooooo!!!!! soooooo happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂

Congratulations! Did you get the letter saying they fully anticipated that you'd get a seat?

Congrats!!! you said that you are at usf right now, correct? A big :clap: for a fellow Bull. See you up there!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think I'll have another penn stater anytime soon. lol The only other penn state guy is graduating and I KNEW him.

Congrats Alyson! I got that email too saying that they "fully anticipate to give me an acceptance", and I have not heard anything yet. It is so hard to keep wondering...I wonder if they sent out too many of those emails haha. I am staying positive though! 🙂

Almost at 1000!! 10 more 😀

Good luck to those on the waitlist!! people are dropping since class starts in a month :scared:

I like how everyone has adopted by goal. 😉 Remember, it is still my baby. 😛

I will hunt down whoever takes the 1000th post from me. Just so you know. We don't have a history of hazing here, but if you're an entering M1, I will start it up just for you. 😉

I could always just delete your 1000th post and claim it myself...

:d

Your assistant moderator status will not help you in real life. You can't delete and edit pins in cadavers. Keep in mind, I'm friends with most of the TAs and they are the ones that pin things for tests. 😉

Gator8-- I got the same letter you did and stillll waiting!!!! So you are not alone, and I am really hoping there is not too many more of us! I know 2 other people who got the same letter, and they have both been accepted. So its just me and you haha... wouldn't that be nice??!!:xf::luck:

Oh this feels so gooooooooood. 1000 baby.

Almost makes up for a ton of crap I still have to do and having to drive an hour to and from summer clinical practicum for 3 weeks.

And how was the gambling Ms. Sammich?
