Haha Jolt. Well, I am someone who listens to constructive criticisms and tries to make adjustments when necessary. You know, you can't be boisterous always..
That's good of you. I just think it's probably really stressful for someone with no interview invites to constantly hear about people who have 5+ interviews already. And it makes it seem like you are bragging (which you are entitled to, 10 invites already is amazing), but that is sure to rub people the wrong way...

Um, yeah. Everybody should definitely chill. I have it both ways. My wife and I are applying and while I have a good number of invites, she has not yet submitted her application. I can appreciate both sides of this really crappy coin.

I will say what I've said this whole time: interviews, while really great, are just REALLY expensive rejections until proven otherwise.

When we all have 8 or 10 or 20 ACCEPTANCES then I'll start a "look at me" thread where all of us can be like "aren't I so great." 🙄

But really, you only need one to make it happen so everybody try to be supportive of everyone else and just ignore things that may annoy you for now. In the end EVERYBODY who gets in attends ONE medical school...and that is all that will matter.

:luck: all!

hey does anyone know when mayo's going to invite me for interview?

hey guys, just got an interview invite...so pumped. i got an LOR request july 29th and interview invite aug 18th.

Why does Wikipedia have such a short and not so imformative page for the Mayo Medical School? I think this school deserves much better article.

Would someone among current or prospective students mind adding more details and descriptions to it? 🙄 Just a thought.

So I paid my fee on July 31st.. Fee Received confirmation on Aug 3rd.. Have not heard from them since. Assume rejection pre-LOR?

people that got LOR requests, when were you complete and when did you get the request? thanks ahead of time!🙂

6/29 - Fee Received e-mail
7/08 - LOR Request

but that was so early in the cycle that it may have been a lot quicker back then. nowadays, it looks like things are taking 12 days.

past 2 nights i have woken up around 2:30 to check my e-mail for a invite. i'm such a sad case. 🙁

I hope I hear something tonight. I can't stand this waiting for LOR request. Every morning when I check my email, I'm half hoping there is an email from them and half hoping there isn't in case it's a rejection. PLEASE, Mayo, ask for my LORs.

To give you guys a heads up, I got a LOR request yesterday night. I sent in my fee on 8/7

They acknowledged receipt of my fee on 7/27, but I still haven't heard anything from them. I feel like I should have probably heard something by now (hopefully not a rejection), and am now afraid something got lost through the spam filter. Do they go through these sequentially? Should I ask about it?

Interview invite this morning. Good luck to all with invites, and all who are patiently hoping/waiting.

Sorry to hear that. 🙁
Was this pre or post LORs for the two of you?

Be careful what you ask for... I heard back this morning too. Wasn't good news, they didn't even want to read my LoRs... 🙁

Pre-LOR. We need to just be grateful for the interviews we have 🙂

I have a similar wait post-LOR-confirmation........

about to get rejected any minute of any day now...oh I am such a pessimist.

Aww, I'm so sorry! This process is tough and unpredictable sometimes. I saw that you have an interview at Pritzker though-- that's so awesome! I'd do anything for that one. Good luck! 🙂

Phew! I finally got caught up after getting back from vaction two days ago (not that any of you really care). Congrats to all who have received good news (LOR requests and interview invites), good luck to all who have not been selected, and stay positive to all who are still waiting!

 This is so true, especially the emphasis on being REALLY expensive.

Same boat. Want to grab a beer while we play the waiting game?

Im surprised I made it this far with a 27 o MCAT

Indeed, sorry for everyone who's gotten bad news...

Welcome back lrkoehle! I am not a regular poster here, but I check it regularly and noticed you hadn't posted in a while.

Yeah, I totally was thinking this earlier today too! Welcome back, we need your Mayo love here. 🙂

I'm currently in post-completion limbo, would it be prudent to email Ms. Landswerk with the fact that I am volunteering abroad until November, or would you suggest that I wait until I hear news either way? I suppose it could be seen as both informative for their purposes and supplementary to my application. Thanks for your help.

I'm glad to be back home (and on SDN, of course!). Road trips are fun, but I don't wan to drive again for a couple weeks. I will bring the crazy Mayo love, because this wouldn't be SDN without some crazy.

I don't know about this, and actually I am kind of confused as to what you are saying. Are you going to ask them to speed up your decision because of a study abroad?

No, I'm under the impression that they give you an interview date - I would have to reschedule immediately if this were the fact. If I let them now what I was doing, they would be able to schedule around my available dates.

They give you a range of dates to pick from, but I'm sure that if those dates happened to be when you were out of the country, they would try to accommodate you then. I personally wouldn't call and ask them this now-- it's hard to interpret how people take things when you can't physically see their reactions, and so someone may accidentally interpret this as your presuming you deserve an interview and thus are laying out stipulations for them.

Itsalovestory is right. I got 2-3 dates to pick from in middle oct and I just got my invite a couple days ago. If you do get an invite during the time you are unavailable, you should be able to call them and let them know of the situation and I am sure they will accommodate you. No point emailing them now.

This is how much I love Mayo. Their logo (without the name "Mayo") ..has been my profile picture on facebook since October 2007. I don't think anyone's going to believe that but it's true.lol. I'm glad to have been given a chance to interview here.🙂. I wish everyone here good luck. Hopefully we'll all be classmates in 2010.:luck:

Cool, thanks guys. I definitely don't want to come off as believing that I'm entitled to an interview, which is most definitely not the case. I just don't want to be stuck in a bad situation when it comes to rescheduling. Again, I appreciate the advice and information - good luck to y'all in your application processes.

damn, this is the craziest thread of all time! lol

so interesting to hear about that late night interview theory, mine was received at 2:37am so i guess it holds

Yay, I'm not the craziest one here! Although, I don't really use facebook at all, so it is hard to know if I wouldn't have done the same thing. I do have a picture I took of the Mayo Medical School sign posted on my desk though.

I have tried to not pick a favorite school, because chance of admission is so low (like what, 2% at Mayo or something crazy) but the more I learn about Mayo, the harder that is becoming... after I interview I'm sure it will only get worse... and I think chances of admission after interview are only 25%, which is pretty low considering everyone they interview they liked enough to invite.

1.5%

Just checked the 2009 USNews book this week. The only one lower is Stanford.

Yeah, 25% chance of admission post-interview is pretty low. I think many schools are 30-40%, some as high as 50% right?

1.5%. Wow! Stanford couldn't have been too much lower... how much was theirs if you remember?
