Reading all this as a '95 Alumni,
Your passion for the school, the career, the human contact ...
... is conveyed, by simply being ... caring ... showing ... not trying.
For who can deliver someone that they are not.

By the way ... one of the most memorable days in my life ...
About 10 days before I was headed off to Chicago (Loyola), a phone call came from Mayo (Dr. Harms) ... "We've accepted you off the 'Wait List'" ...

The school year started 2 weeks later.

I honestly can't imagine a Medical School that compares.

Looking back, I still can't believe they accepted me, yet ...
... knowing myself more ... I guess.

Well, remember ... you're humans first ... not Doctors.

Good luck to you all.

And if you get into Mayo ... TAKE IT!"

TG

That's really awesome, and puts things into perspective quite nicely.

Here's to hoping :xf:

so if you were complete on 8/19 and haven't heard back anything does that mean you were rejected (since people from 8/20+ are hearing that they got interviews)? Is there a status page that you can check or is it strictly email?

thanks

nah there's no status page. and they do send out rejection emails, so if you haven't heard anything, take it as mildly good news.

So I have my interview set for this Friday and am VERY excited about it. 🙂

Anyone happen to know how many people will be in each interview group?

Also, thanks to those current students who have been willing to share their experiences. I've been lurking every now and then just to keep up with the insights/suggestions.

It is appreciated!

ehh I am in the same situation. I bet we will hear "something" this week

Yeah, I'm guessing it's not good news for us. But I don't understand why they would wait to send out the rejections if they've already reviewed us unfavorably. Or are we in a "maybe" pile still?

I've also been complete since 8/20 with no news. I guess we're in a maybe pile since I think people complete around the same time have been invited and rejected. Who knows. Maybe there are different people updating applicants and we just have a slow reviewer. 😛

so I received an email requesting for letters of rec on 8/20 but since then I have not heard anything from them. My letters were uploaded on AMCAS ages ago. How long does it take for you guys to receive the complete email from them? It's been about 3 weeks for me and no complete email yet so I wanna find out whats going on with them. Thanks!

I got the LOR request on 8/12 and the complete e-mail on 8/20, so a little over 1 week. If I were you I would call and ask what's up. Also, ask what's up with my application while you're at it.

I called just now. The lady said they upload letters in batches, and it has been a while since they last updated a batch, so just wait it out. I got my LOR request 8/25 and have not received a complete e-mail either. Hopefully it will be soon!

If I just received the email to pay $100, does that mean I'm complete?

I think it means you passed the initial screening. I paid the fee a few weeks ago and haven't heard a peep. Really hoping though.

Fee request is just the first step.

After you pay the fee, you are in the competition for an LOR request, which may take many days.

Provided you do get an LOR request and you upload them on the same day, it will take a few days to be complete.

Ah, thanks guys.

I second Phoenix on this one. An MCAT of 45 and a 4.00 all by itself won't necessarily get you into Mayo, but Wash U will throw a red carpet and feed you lobsters on the interview ;-). I interviewed at Wash U and for whatever reason they wanted further scores to further evaluate me after the interview. They called me a few weeks later asking for my SAT and GRE scores, granted that I had PhD from an Ivy league from which I graduated with a 4.00. I laughed and withdrew my application (they had waitlisted me) a few days after they called me asking for that. What else did they need me to prove? I don't know. Hopefully they've changed their tactics. Now I am at Mayo and extremely happy with my decision.

I also agree with Phoenix's next statement... this process is a crapshoot, so don't let it get you down. You can get accepted at the #1 school and get a rejection from the #160 school... and you will never know why.

This = priceless.

Says it all.

👍

I too was complete 8/20 but haven't heard anything back. I wonder what's going on also.

Hey, I got an lor request on august 21 and turned them in that day. But, I still haven't received a confirmation email. ...
Is it taking this long for everyone?

It seems like people missed my note because there are still people who are asking the same questions 🙂 Here it is again....

Anyone else doing the 1:50 AM e-mail check now? I can't help myself!

complete since 8/19.... waiting....hmm looking like a rejection

I think there are people who were complete after us (I was complete on 8/20) that have been rejected already.... So I'm hoping they're considering us for interviews still. :xf:

thanks roaming! sorry, its getting hard to keep up with all the threads of schools i've applied to.

No problem - I get what you mean. It's so hard to wait!! I hope they download our letters soon! Being in limbo sucks more than knowing...(although it is still early September). Good luck!!

Yep, I'm also hoping for good news. I'm in the same boat as you.

Crap, I have nearly identical stats as you and also came from engineering :\

I paid the fee on 8/31

I am sure we have different experiences and they do look at the overall application, so don't get worried yet.

this may seem like a shallow/stupid post...but...getting a LoR request from mayo means your personal statement and EC's are good right?
and it has nothing to do with scores, etc.?

you better hope so. your stats blow worse than a whale's blowhole

i wouldn't look at the results from any single school as indicative of the quality of letters/recs/etc. every school is different, different adcoms, different views. that being said, i think you'll do fine lol. you know that too!

Is anyone flying into MSP and taking the "Go! Rochester" shuttle thing? Has anyone taken it? Also, anyone have recommendations for how to get from Minneapolis to Rochester because it's much easier flying into MSP than to Rochester.

yea, im doing the shuttle thing. it seems pretty well organized, so I doubt it should be a problem.

i got the 8/20 LOR received email. no other news yet....

how long does it take for them to usually make a decision?

word is they dont read PS until they get your LOR's...so its stats and EC's till then. dont know how true that it.

Post-interview food for thought:

1. Thanks to the interviewees today for being great people. 👍 It was a pleasure to spend an exhausting day with such a unique group.

2. Mayo and students: you are awesome. You know you are awesome and yet you handle it so well that the awesome-ness of it all just doesn't even have to be said. Thank you for being real, down-to-earth, and great human beings.

3. This school is quite possibly the way things would be "in a perfect world."
It is worth going through all of the neuroticism that we all endure just to have the chance to see this place in all its patient-centered glory.

4. Whether I get in or not I will always appreciate the model this school provides for education and clinical practice.

Good luck with this process everyone, and don't give up hope! You just never know...

(but you gotta try)

Perhaps I'll see you at Tech?

👍

Everyone at Mayo was incredible. I attended a couple of events with students in addition to the interview day, and every one was wonderful. Time for me to disappear again into my school work, good luck to all.

those who interviewed, what time did you get out? the last flight out is 6:30, so if I don't make the 3:30 Go Rochester bus, i wont make my flight...is the pick-up close to the school?

I did a rental car for $10/day through priceline from MSP to Rochester and back. You are going to be cutting it close, but we were done around 3pm, maybe a little sooner.

And for everyone: if you park make sure you figure out the validation details with whatever hotel you stay in. If you are just coming and going for the day then you should probably just use the Damon lot and be prepared to pay $12 max/day. Avoid the city lot for overnight as they threaten to tow any cars left overnight.

And the lot for the Kahler is usually full. And the Kahler (at least for me) was not the best about validating tickets. If you can stay until Saturday then parking is free from the Mayo public lots (at least Damon and Graham). 👍

Have fun!

I definitely don't know the interview process/timing this year, but if it were me, I would probably just give Marcy a call or email and let her know that I was planning to make the 3:30 Go Rochester bus to get to a 6:30 flight out. I imagine that should work fine, but it couldn't hurt to give her a heads up and see what she recommends. Maybe they'll schedule your interviews earlier in the day so that you don't end up having any problems if things run late. But if you are done by 3pm, I can't imagine it would be a problem. If you're staying at the Kahler I'd just leave my bags checked there at the front desk and go over there after the interview to catch the shuttle there. If you're staying with a student, I'd bring my bag to the interview (the admissions office has somewhere they can keep your luggage for interview day) and then just leave straight from there to the Kahler for the pick-up. If it's snowing, you can just walk underground from admissions to the Kahler, so no need to worry about dragging your bag through the snow or anything.

I just looked at their web site, and it says they pick up at most Rochester hotels, including the Kahler, as well as at St. Mary's hospital. The Kahler is right near the med school (walking there just takes a couple of minutes), so it really shouldn't be a problem. Here's the site:

under 25, so car rental is expensive, but the cheapest i see is $47 for over 25 anyway, where did you get $10?

and thanks Phoenix, I'll give Marcy a call.
