8/20s, I think I'll be calling later this afternoon to ask if there is such a thing as a "hold" for mayo. Maybe she'll tell me if it's a matter of our application continuously being compared to new applicants before they reject/interview us.... Seems we are in limbo so hopefully I'll report back with some useful info!

I actually haven't called or emailed them at all.... Just always a bit nervous that the people answering the phone will be annoyed if I do call, so I always put it off. 😳

By the way, as you know, Mayo is a great place but there is this really annoying first year (from New Zealand I think), watch out for him!!

Actually is there a general number for admissions office? I only found the number for the Dean and associate Dean so I hesitated to call. My LOR was received on August 20 and still haven't heard from them. Is it normal?

Nah, after what PremedIowa said I don't fear them adding to my file "This applicant is annoying and doesn't know how to read directions and wait." I'll call in the morning.

The numbers on the admissions number is the general admissions office number (they are the same). You will get one of the office staff, all of whom are knowledgeable. Go ahead and ask them that question.

Don't give up! We all waited sooo long meaning there's still hope!

I know Mayo is rolling but does it help to interview earlier than later?? Basically all of October and NOvember are available.

So Mayo asked for my letter end of august, and my letters were not recieved by AMCAS until beginning Sept, and since then, I have heard nothing from mayo, no letter recieved or app complete emails, is this abnormal??? Does Mayo automatically retrieve your letters once they are in?

Yes and it may take a while. So patience is ur best friend until they send u a complete email.

Mayo seems like they could careless about numbers. They basically said this at the interview too. For them it is much more about the whole applicant.

I think for Mayo it's even more important to be early since their interviews end in mid-december. Not sure though if it's still worth applying. Just know that it takes a while to get through the different screens so they probably wouldn't get to your application for weeks.

Crazy stats? I guess the MCAT average in the most recent MSAR did jump to 35, but from what I have seen and heard numbers are a tiny part of what Mayo considers in its applicants. You are definitely on the later side of things now, but you are not past the deadline I don't think. To me, even a slim shot at getting a chance to attend Mayo is worth the money, so I would say go for it! Plus, there are no secondary essays, so it only costs you the money, not time.

Well for what it's worth, Mayo will probably have a decision on our apps by the time they get to yours, so the advice is not self-serving! 😛

Yea it maybe late for Mayo since alot of November slots are filled. I don't understand how they move so quickly b/c for every other school in the country it's not really late.

I couldn't sign up for Oct and alot of early Nov is filled. No Dec options so I guess they are holding those for future invites.

Well this just sucks. I feel like they keep looking at my application and they're like, "Weeelllll maybe, I don't know, he's pretty good buuuuut...hmmm...we'll just set him over here for another couple weeks and think about him then." Make up your minds already!

What do you think, Rach? Are we done? If so, why haven't they rejected us yet?

I'm not sure. For some reason I felt like this morning there were tons of dates available and then when I decided on one a few hours later they went bye bye. I hope my eyes weren't playing tricks on me. I do think early October was still available but like I said I'm not too sure 😕.

I ended up calling today and she didn't take my name or number and just said our apps were "probably next in line to be reviewed so be patient." I doubt that's the case since people from our date heard back ages ago. At least she was really nice about it. 🙂

It seems like if they wanted to reject you they already would have. Maybe they keep re-reviewing?

I called today too! She didn't take my name or number either and wouldn't give me any specifics. I wanted to tell her, "Okay, I know you can just punch my numbers into your computer and you'll get a live update of my application status and the comments made on it so just DO IT" But I refrained. At least that's how I imagine it works.

I hope they're not choosing between a dog and a giant fish. We should make a pact here and now that no matter what happens, we'll stick together. Meaning if you get an interview and I don't, you just say, "No thank you! Friends come first Mr. Mayo!" Right??

lol I was going to say that I would be slightly hurt if you left me behind and went on with your interview. If only they could see our fish and dog pics, that would definitely make them like us more. 😛

I'd say too late. If your situation turns out anything like mine it would be something like this: It was about 3 weeks between paying my fee and getting an LOR request and then a complete e-mail, and it has been a month and counting since then (I'm guess I'll hear any day now). If we apply that to you paying the fee today, you would be hearing about an interview invite around the end of November. And I'm guessing to get an interview at that point by Mayo standards you would pretty much have to walk on water.

Then again, like others have said, it's "just" $100. So best case scenario you end up interviewing and maybe getting accepted, worst case you're out $100. Your call.

I don't know how many ppl interview per day but I think they have one month of unfilled interviews. I'd give it a shot. $100 in the grand scheme of things isn't too bad no?

Yeah I guess, especially since no secondary essays. But this is seriously like shooting for a lottery. Can't hurt to try though.

Be prepared for a long wait tho. I got a LOR request within a week of adding the school (which was considered fast back then) and then took over a month for an invite and this was in july/aug. Its slowed down a lot since then and yes as far as some people i know who got recently invited they only have about a month of spots left. But you still have a legit chance. Just won't hear back super soon. If you like Mayo enough, I would say apply right away without any delay!

I'm almost at 1 month (tomorrow) since LOR request and have not received a complete application message yet. I don't think they lose applications since it's electronic? Seems like many people are in our boat, so it is ok for now. Good luck!

they are probably getting pretty selective now (they always were i suppose). lots of great applicants and they interview so few with the small class size. good luck to everyone!

OK I just realized that I assigned letters to Mayo like way back when I first submitted AMCAS even though I'm pretty sure I wasn't supposed to and was supposed to wait until they requested them. Do we think this will be a problem? I'm worried that a) it will annoy the admissions office (as well it should- I was really anxious about AMCAS and didn't know how to do things properly) and b) that if they ask me to submit my letters I won't be able to because I already did if that makes sense

Thoughts?
