but that doesn't explain why no one else was ranked last night. I think Mayo was perhaps being a bit too ambitious trying to finish up the cycle over two months earlier this year, and now they have fallen behind a little bit. I can't fault them for it, because they have a very difficult job to do and must do it right. Sorry to those of you still waiting, I'm sure it is only adding to your stress with finals coming up soon. Just try to be patient.

They ranked people last night. Don't ask me how I know. You can call and ask Carmen but they did rank. They are going to send them out later.

How do you know???? oh wait, you said don't ask...I'm just kidding. I do trust you that they did the rankings last night. Plus, I already called and bothered Carmen yesterday, so I should probably leave her alone today anyways. She would probably think I am crazy to call and ask about ranking anyways, since I have been ranked for almost two and a half months.

Any word on when the next batch of acceptances will go out? I have a feeling Monday or Tuesday will be the day.

Jolt what do you need Carmen's name for?😛 Haha. Carmen is the one who sits behind Marcy at that receptionist-like area. Both are pretty sweet and patient..(not like those at ahem UMich ahem)😱

Finally ranked; interviewed 10/26. I wonder if it's a sign that they took so long...=(

...wait, why are you asking people waiting to hear if they are in or not about a school you've already been accepted to...shouldn't you know more than us? Did Mayo not give you the appropriate information?

lol. i ended up just calling. plus, people who are already in and students are in this thread also, so the question was more towards them. all good. sent in my deposit this morning.

Do you think if I send in a deposit that they will take the hint and go ahead an accept me? I think its worth a shot...they'd be like, "wait, we didn't accept this guy, or did we?" Then I just show up on the first day of classes and they'd have to let me in. Damn it, these are the things I think about when I'm not studying...back to the books. 😳

Yikes man, having read your posts, I feel horrible for you. I hope you get in because I've never seen anyone want to get into a school oh so badly. At least you're in somewhere now! I think Mayo takes a ton of people off hold/waitlist though, so don't sweat it so much. Just take a look at all the people who have been accepted so far. All of them have interviewed and/or been accepted at other elite schools. It's doubtful they all end up at Mayo. This bodes well for you! 👍

Also, if you're from Arizona, why in God's name would you ever want to go to Mayo?? It's so damn cold in MN. I can't WAIT to leave! :laugh:

Well, don't feel too bad for me. I am no where near as high stress in real life as I may come across on here, so I'm not going to have a major emotional breakdown if I don't get in to Mayo. With that said, it is certainly my top choice, so I would love to get in. Plus, like you said Mayo takes a relatively large number of people off of hold/waitlist. I have a friend who is a first year there, and she told me "most of the people I know here now came off of hold/waitlist," including her. Based on that, I am kind of hoping we will start seeing a lot more people on hold getting accepted at this stage with the interview season at Mayo coming to a close. Also, a lot of the stress that came through in my posts on here was a combination of a) wanting to get in to medical school and b) wanting to go to Mayo, and until recently, as you noted, I was not accepted anywhere. Then I got three last week (what the hell is up with that?), so now the main part of that stress is gone because I know I am gunna be a doctor! Its a feeling I hope everyone else out there can have after all of the hard work we have put in. Still, like I said Mayo is my top choice, so any one out there holding an acceptance here and other top med schools please feel free to go to a different school and free up a spot for the rest of us!!! :meanie:

As for why I would want to leave Arizona for Mayo, well its frankly hot as hell here a huge portion of the year (see my post back in like July when it was still 100+ at 10 o'clock at night). I like colder weather, so I don't think Minnesota weather would be too terrible. If I hate it, then I can always move back to Arizona for residency. Weather aside, I really like the city of Rochester and would love to live there. Phoenix is a big, spread-out city, and I am ready for a change.

Thanks. I got into University of Iowa on Tuesday and to both campuses of my state school, University of Arizona, on Friday. Needless to say, it was a good week. The best thing is I'm not stressing about my finals coming this week, because I no longer have to think, "what if I have to reapply next year!?!?!?" I actually thought about posting in this thread that I was accepted to Iowa, so you all could expect my level of crazy to be going down. My stress level certainly has gone back down to normal pre-application levels, and I now hate this process a little bit less. Heck, if I get accepted to Mayo I might actually be able to come out of this process and say I enjoyed it 😛. Regardless, I really liked my state school at the interview, and I would be perfectly happy getting my medical education there.
 
Does anyone know when the next subcommittee for acceptances meets?

I think I remember someone saying this Thursday? I'm not really too sure either though.

One thing I realized after the Mayo interview was that 30 minutes was definitely not enough time to express myself and my application fully =/

Hey! I actually felt the exact same way after my first interview. I felt as if I had covered one aspect of my application, while entirely neglecting the other (talked about service experiences, didn't mention research). I actually asked my interviewer if it was alright that we weren't able to cover that, and they responded saying that of course they'd read my entire file already and so they knew about it, but that I could also make it the focus of my second interview. I walked into my second interview and told the interviewer that I didn't get a chance to explain my research much during my first interview, and asked if we could cover that first. It worked. 🙂
 
I just received the hold status via email. I was ranked last week. That was quick. This sucks. 🙁

Both my interviewers (spontaneously) told me that they would recommend me for admission and thought I would be a great fit at Mayo. I'm bummed.
 
Maybe they're putting on hold the large majority of applicants until they're done interviewing everyone in a few weeks. That theory is my only consolation.

It's tough dealing with unrequited love. =/
 
bah hold as well... so what's the fate of Holdees? is this the unofficial waitlist or what?

I don't know what it is about interviewers and their comments, but every school but one (Rochester) where I was told I did a "great job" ended up in rejection/WL. Every school that I thought "boy, that wasn't the best" ended up in an acceptance.

I found that the less I heard from an interviewer the better.

Don't worry too much about it yet, you just don't know what will happen in the end. :xf:

Archimedesxx seems to know some one on the inside, maybe he can tell us? Otherwise someone brave can send an email, and we will know by tomorrow...there is however a slight chance that they did not have time to call people today, and so acceptances will go out tomorrow morning. Sending the generic hold email takes less time than calling people, so if it was like 4:30-4:45 when they made decisions they probably wouldn't have started calling people. Of course, when I was put hold it was first thing in the morning...😕

lol.I don't have an inside source. I just know someone who sits on the ranking committee. Carmen also knows my voice right now because she easily identifies me on the phone.

Ok! So according to Carmen, appointments won't be made till next week or the week after that. I did not probe further but methinks that they did not appoint anyone. First of all, it is brutally fast. Ranked email on Friday and appointments on Monday. I don't think so. Second, it's only logical that they rank everyone before they make the last appointments. According to my "insider", they met and ranked late October and early November applicants last Thursday. This means that there are a lot of people who have not been ranked. It would only make sense that they wait a little while to give out the next round of appointments.

According to my source my interviewers ranked me very highly and i was put on hold today. This may substantiate the insider's earlier claim that Mayo tries to build a class instead of going solely by ranking. Otherwise, it might be that they just haven't given out any acceptances.

If anyone claims they have been accepted then we should accept that.

This is my personal take on the very fast nature of the hold email. As to appointments not been made until a week or two from now, I got it from carmen.
 
Hold as well, ranked just last week. I love Mayo, but I guess they don't feel the same.

Yea, maybe this was their way of saying they haven't forgotten about you. Pretty mean, but you never know. Sorry about the casualties today, but keep your hopes up! You all had interviews and that was the hardest stage. I think there is a better chance of admissions than getting an interview, no?
 
Hey folks, chill. A hold is not a deferral or a waitlist or anything -- it just means that the subcommittee has at least seen your app/ranking and you could be accepted at any time. I think it's silly to think of it as a black mark; there are much worse statuses you can get at other schools.

The prudent question we should ask is whether anyone who was just ranked did NOT receive a hold email. If they notified everyone as hold, then we know no one was accepted, but if someone was just ranked and didn't receive a hold email, then they may be waiting to call accepted applicants tomorrow or later this week.

So...anyone?
