Remember that Carmen said that acceptances calls would have been made Friday if Carmen had the time to call, and if not, then Monday morning. Maybe she only got around to calling a few people, and only one of those is on SDN. It wouldn't surprise me..

Well that's why I believe that this person was accepted (unless we find out otherwise). It is possible that she only called a few people Friday and will do the rest Monday, but he said the call went out at 1 pm PST (3 pm central). I would think 2 hours would be more than enough time to call the twenty people, but then again I don't know how long the acceptance call conversations are. Do they talk to you for like 10-15 minutes, or is it a short call? If each call takes 5 minutes from start to finish, two hours (3-5pm) should be more than enough time to call everyone. Also, I do believe that it is very possible that only one SDNer was accepted this time around, but in each of the past few rounds of acceptances, when only ~10 acceptances were made, multiple SDNers got the call. This time ~20 were supposed to get called, and no one from SDN got the call (I say no one, because he just made his first post yesterday)? All I can say is that makes me sad for all of us SDNers. 🙁

I just received a call from a 507 number but I missed it. I called back and it went to Mayo Clinic. Like Jolt21 it looks like i have been accepted. You guys should post if you hear something

Edit: Dean Barbara Porter left a message on my phone that I should call Carmen for some good news. So I have been accepted!

congrats dude! calls on Saturday, that's interesting

Congrats man!
Anybody else get calls?

I feel terrible--I got passed up by Mayo again!!

oh well i guess no mayo for me. with the 28 already accepted and the 20 new ones, that makes 48. isnt that most of the slots?

I'm pretty sure they haven't called all the 20 new acceptees. Everyone still has a decent shot:luck::luck::luck:

it seems like everyone who has received an acceptance also received a ranking email prior. Don'y forget that there are a handful of November and December inerviewees who haven't received this email, so its reasonable to say that there should be a decent number of seats left to accommodate those selcted from those applicants. i wouldn't give up just yet.

there is always the possibility that mayo ranked everyone and did not bother sending an official email notification this time around, but that is probably not likely

no call either... i was ranked with the group where everyone was put on hold though.

So has anyone who interviewed in Nov./ december been ranked/ received an acceptance?

Congrats to all of the acceptances! Don't forget to PM Nerday Shortay about the FB page.

I look forward to hearing about all of you who get the call on Monday as well.

:xf:

:luck: everyone!

First, congrats!

Next, 😕 They haven't called all of the acceptees? Just curious, what leads you to believe this? I seriously hope that is true, but why the heck would they spread acceptance calls over a few days, including a Saturday? I am really confused by this recent turn of events with Mayo.

Congrats everyone! And if you are excited about Mayo (like me) read "Hot Lights Cold Steel" by Michael Collins. Trust me, you'll like it.

My cousin bought me that book just because it was about a doctor going through residency and such, and then coincidentally it happened to be about an orthopedic surgeon at Mayo (both things I am interested in).

not gonna lie, mayo runs a pretty crappy admissions process. applicants like being informeed about where they stand, not hung out to dry

Like everyone, I'm just speculating. I have this feeling that if they have actually called all 20 people, then we should see a lot more representation on SDN?
Either that or almost everyone they called is not a SDN member.

Also, remember when Carmen said she "thought" 20 people were going to be appointed? "Think" makes be believe she wasn't too sure about that and that they actually appointed only 10.

Anyway GL to everyone here.

Got it. Looks like this nightmare roller coaster ride continues...

Again, big time congrats. Not gunna lie, I am quite jealous, so hopefully more come out Monday (or based on the past couple of days maybe tomorrow! 🙄).

Does anyone know when they will create the actual wait list? And if so, whether or not they will give us any indication as to where we stand on it?

I thought I heard from someone it was sometime in Feb.. or at least not before January.. I'm not positive though. I dont believe they tell us where we stand on it. I remember someone saying you never find out your ranking or anything like that.

This. Jerew, considering all of your options I'm glad to hear that you are excited about Mayo. I hope to see you this summer 👍, though I know people still have other things to consider until all of the chips are on the table.

I would agree that it seems they likely only called about 10 people, but I wouldn't be surprised to see more calls go out on Monday (if the dean wants to have a working weekend to think about that next group). I doubt they are through handing out acceptances. Besides, from everything I've read from the previous Mayo threads, it seems that many of those who matriculate come from the dreaded WL. The wait sucks. Nothing anyone can say is going to make that better, except a phone call from Carmen, but don't give up hope yet...you just never know how things will work out.

Enjoy the Christmas break, New Year's, and any other holidays you might happen to enjoy.

:luck:

Congrats to those of you who have been recently accepted! Mayo is a great place to be and I would be happy answering questions for those of you who are deciding between schools. Feel free to PM me. There is good and bad at every school, it's just a matter of what is important to you (i.e. location isn't great, but is that isn't the most important thing in the world for me).

It is a really unique place to study medicine, and I am glad I chose to attend.

great post.

All of us would like a little love...and those of us who were among the earliest invites might have been hoping that would translate to an acceptance before now. Well, clearly that hasn't happened for some of us and , I have to admit, it's disappointing to think that we might have done something to harm our chances at our interviews. I've had a great app season (and I'm certainly NOT complaining) but Mayo is a school I rank VERY highly.

I can certainly relate to this post. I was in the very first group of interview invitees, I interviewed on the first day, and yet I still sit here waiting. At this point, the only glimmer of hope that I have is that the deans who decide who gets accepted have to have seen my application (+LOI + 2 updates) so many times that they will accept me so they no longer have to look at it. Hopefully my obvious, continued interest will help me come waitlist time.

I don't think I screwed up in my interviews, and I am willing to be most of us didn't. The thing is that people Mayo accepts don't just have good GPA, good MCAT, research, etc., Mayo accepts those people who have those sort unusual ECs (ie professional tuba player (bamtuba), DJ (Jolt21), etc.). I think even with everything else stellar, including the interview, if you don't have one or more of these standout kind of things, it will be very difficult to get accepted here. This is what I think happened to me (especially with regard to the interview).

Anyhow, I think we all rank Mayo highly (myself included, obviously 😛), and without a doubt more of us will be getting in over the next few months. Let's stay positive about Mayo, and be happy with the acceptances we already have. Good luck all! :luck::luck::luck::luck:

I was in the very first group of interview invitees
So was I. Not that it means anything, but at the four acceptances I've kept I was also a first day invite, and first day acceptance at 2 (and very early at the other 2). Makes me wonder but...... I'm not giving up hope. Far from it.

yikes, if they've accepted 28 + 20 = 48 = their whole class, then I feel really bad for the nov/dec interviewees who haven't been ranked because that means they were never even considered for acceptance by the committee 🙁

for that reason alone, I don't think they called 20 people this weekend.

They overadmit, just like every school, so seats available < num acceptances. The Nov/Dec rankings will get a fair review I'm sure.

Is that 93 including the waitlist? Also, at my interview Mayo said they were only going to interview ~250 this year, which is obviously less than 311. Makes me wonder if they will still end up accepting 93 this year. 93 of 250 is 37.2%. I think that is a pretty reasonable post-interview acceptance rate.

Is that 93 including the waitlist?
I don't know, but since the full 50 accepted spots (42+6+2) are included, I'd think so.

Where is that info from? US news and world report?

93 isn't terrible. 93-6 (MD/PhD) - 2 (the dentist people) - maybe 3 or 4 more (MD/PhD and dentists who were accepted, but did not attend) = 81 or 82. That would be 10-12 people from the waitlist (assuming 70-72 outright acceptances).

Yes.

Anyway you count it, 48 or 38, they are half-way or more than half-way done , so .....it looks like I wasn't on their "A" party list after the interviews. 😉 But, again, not giving up hope. Just being realistic.

it's ok. the B and C-listers are usually the fun ones at the party anyway!

Congrats! Were you ranked before you received the acceptance call? I too interviewed the last week of november, but have not received a ranked email yet...

The A-list is lame anyways...every one on it is a bunch of big jerk-faces. 😀

If we assume 70-72 outright acceptances and somewhere between 38 and 48 given out, then there is still somewhere between 22 and 34 to go. Now I know that is not great chances, but there are still A LOT of acceptances to be given (around 1/3). Realistically, that is obviously less than before this last round of acceptances, but relative to Mayo 22 is a lot of spots in the class (~9% of the MD interviewees). I will call sometime mid-morning Monday to try to get a better idea of where things stand.

Not to be even more depressing, but when you take away the IS spots....the remaining numbers look really bleak. Especially before the waitlist. I'm just really happy I have choices I love.

Mayo is a private school, so I didn't think IS vs OOS was any different. I remember a couple of years back they qualified people as IS or OOS for tuition purposes, but I thought they had dropped that. I should be considered IS anyways, because there is a Mayo clinic in AZ. According to Mayo's old policies MN, AZ, FL residents were IS. Have you seen somewhere that indicates Mayo sets aside a certain number of acceptances exclusively for IS applicants?

No. just the numbers in #2391.

In-state admissions data
