Interviewing here in late Jan, so excited due to their commitment to serving urban patients. How has everyone's interview experience been here? Did your interview day change your ranking of the school? Anyone stay with one of the student hosts?

Grats on the interview. I interviewed there at the end of Oct. and I absolutely LOVED it. The interview day def. moved Temple to the top of my rankings, and now I can't decide between Temple and my state school, even tho Temple cost a lot more. Oh well.

But how? They are private school.

False, this is a common misconception. Temple is a partially funded state school, but not part of the Penn State system. University of Pittsburgh is exactly the same deal (it is also a public university, but not part of the Penn States system). Temple University Hospital is also a public hospital, not private.

Ehh, whatever.

Got an interview invite here today. I am very excited! I love Philly! Unfortunately, nothing open until February 3rd! Any advice? Tips? Anyone know what percentage of those interviewed are accepted?

Thanks for posting that. I see this all the time as well on SDN. It's really confusing for students since the MSAR actually lists Temple and University of Pittsburgh as private schools (that's a lesson that the MSAR is no bible of truth). That is a total disservice to students since these schools MUST give weight to residents of the Commonwealth. As someone who lived in Pittsburgh-both Temple and Pitt are amazing schools though. FYI, Pitt and Temple are state-related universities-an interesting Pennsylvania public-private hybrid that offers greater university autonomy, but ultimately fewer direct Commonwealth dollars of support.

And for all of you accepted ppls, when does Temple send out the official acceptance letter? If ever? Or are we just accepted based on the status page lol.

i interviewed her a couple of weeks ago. my status changed to correspondence mailed. does that mean i am rejected, since my status did not change to accepted?

I just called the admissions office because I wasn't able to pay the $100 fee to hold my spot. They said I would be receiving an official acceptance by mail within the next week and then I will be able to pay the $100

Haha gotcha, I guess I'll wait for that letter for a bit longer.

So when I checked the available interview dates this morning, they were already booked all the way through February. When I checked for dates in March there were none available. Now is this because they don't interview in March or is it because they haven't scheduled interview days in March yet?

Try taking the subway, its a lot cheaper and less stressful. www.septa.org
Philly has terrific public transit

Ohhh.. I'm from CA where public transportation is almost non-existent. lol. Will definitely have to plan out my route beforehand so I don't freak out. Thanks for the link. 🙂

Wow, Temple gets 8 times more out of state apps? Maybe my chances aren't terrible after all!
/In state

I will try to work out that public transportation. Hopefully it's not difficult. I did fine with Air Tran and LIRR in NYC but I tend to freak out and make it more complicated than it needs to be.

If you pulled off NYC you can do Philly. They have a great system. Good luck with the interview.

Thanks! I'm back on the fence... I Google Transit'd the route and it seems like it could take 1hr+...

I land @8:30ishh and need to be there by 10:30. I know that's an hour of extra time but it still makes me nervous.

In the morning traffic will probably be bad, and you'll be coming through the city. I'd stick with SEPTA.

I knew I liked Temple, but Philly definitely made me nervous. I know that two blocks out of the general Temple area can be pretty sketchy.

Once I got there though, the mission and attitude of the students, faculty, and staff really sold me. Personally, I know that I want to be a clinician. Research isn't my thing, and Temple is known for turning our excellent clinicians. But if you are interested in research, they were actually ranked this year for the first time! Honestly things only seem to be getting better at the school.

The students there are incredibly friendly. Whenever I ran into one, they would always smile and say "Good Luck!" I have not seen happier students. When you go there, you'll realize it is because the way they organize their curriculum, the policies of the school, and the attitude of the faculty really allow their students to have a life outside of med school. The students all seemed really well-rounded. There will always be stress in a medical student's life, but these students just didn't seem so harried and worn out. The students who showed us around went clubbing, went to museums regularly. Not to mention that the cost of city living in Philly is actually not that bad!

The new medical building is just...insanity. It's gorgeous. The facilities are brand new.

In the end though, the students will really sell the school to you because they honestly love it. That says a lot about a school, and it said a lot to me, which is why it is now one of my top choices. I had a wonderful time at Temple, and if you get the opportunity to interview there, you absolutely should take the time. That school is only going to get better. 🙂

Also, there is stadium lighting on pretty much every building around Temple. One of the students mentioned that "The sun never sets on Temple". They have the largest security force, and if you need an escort to your car at night, all you have to do is call! During the day, the area seems pretty harmless. I wasn't nervous or scared at all!

Interviewed on 11/25 (why I chose to fly this day is beyond me). As for my experience, this person has said it for me. I feel EXACTLY the same way. I'm really hoping for an acceptance in the next couple of weeks because I'm head over heels for this place. 🙄

I interviewed with Temple 11/18 and I was snail mailed notification, postmarked 11/24, that I am on the waitlist.

Is it a good or bad thing if the admissions committee made a decision about me in last than a week? The adcom meets every Friday, and at my interview, I was told to expect a decision in 4-5 weeks because of Thanksgiving. I thought that I had a good faculty and student interviews. My interviewer said I exhibited a passion/enthusiasm for medicine at the end of interview. He was also impressed about my depth of clinical exposure and knowledge about the school.

The day after my interview, I submitted an additional letter of recommendation from a physician I shadowed who is also Temple Med alum. I was going to upload a letter of interest Monday thinking that this Friday they were going to discuss me in committee. Any thoughts.

GPA 3.75, Science 3.69, MCAT 31Q (B12, V10, P9)

There are good number of people that get taken off the waitlist. Last year I was waitlisted around this time and then when March came around I was pulled from it and accepted...I think the LOI and any additional info would only help. Good luck!

I just got the acceptance letter that says they want me to
1) send all official transcripts
2) do some sort of Penn. Criminal Background thing on their pre-orientation page

Does anyone know what the deadline is since I don't want to go through the hassle of getting this all done if I might not go to Temple (my interview season is far from over - I am waiting on a bunch of school's decisions now). Also, why do they need my transcripts sent directly to them if they were sent to AMCAS along with my primary.

the transcript that AMCAS sends them are copies and not the originals from the school.

I'm dying for an interview here!!! Just got one at Meharry but would love one at Howard and Temple!

random question, but does anybody know the grading system here at temple? thanks alot.

They don't need to be sent in until the summer time so you have time...

Honors, high pass, pass , fail...and from our anatomy block syllabus

"The Temple University School of Medicine Grade Guidelines recommends that the:
1. Honors grade distribution be to top 12% of the class ± 4%.
2. High Pass grade distribution be the next 20% of the class ± 5%.
The Block 1 Syllabus states that breakpoints in the grade distribution are used for distinguishing grades of Pass and Fail, with the minimum passing score never higher than 70%.
In accordance with these guidelines the Block 1 faculty has set the distribution for Block 1 grades at:

HONORS – 98.75 to 94.60
HIGH PASS – 94.37 to 91.73
PASS – 91.48 to 69.00
FAIL – Below 69.00"

Anybody complete in September still "under review"?

Ugh that sounds somewhat annoying, kind of like a masked A,B, C, D system. Is Temple competitive? I've just heard great things about P/F schools (students still study as much but are less stressed about life). This could be a deal-breaker (ladies....) in choosing Temple over other acceptances.

I completed my application on Aug. 25th and I am still under review....😕

I completed mine July 4 (yup, no Independence Day celebrating for me) and I am also still under review...
If I remember correctly, this is a school that just leaves people under review forever and basically forgets about them (aka silent rejection). But I think September people are still recent enough to not worry about that quite yet.
