Hey, thanks xmsr3. So, do you have a place picked out in Bethesda yet?

I am prior service (Navy-enlisted), but still have to go through the whole DoDMERB rigamarole, but I am thinking maybe my paperwork may be processed differently. You would think they would just use my enlisted medical records, but I guess I am technically out of their "system" since I am on IRR. Oh well, who doesn't like a nice hernia exam 🙄

Still, I am glad I can at least get a conditional offer prior to the paperwork being through, because there are likely some waivers I will have to get.

If you don't mind me asking, how long after your physical exam did it take you to hear something about being medically cleared?

Last year, I technically never heard back from DoDMERB when I had to get extra tests. I kept calling them on a weekly basis until they told me what I needed to do. I also kept in contact with Rebecca at USUHS because sometimes she would hear from them way before I did. I think it took me a good 5 months to go from conditional acceptance to unconditional, but I had to do one extra test (which was then cleared without a waiver) and I wrote a nice letter to get me the asthma waiver (got out of having to do extra tests with the letter). I think my time line is a bit longer than most, some people with extra tests and waivers didn't take that long.
I'm sure you already know about this since you're already in the military, but you have to be proactive - my stuff would have taken longer if I wasn't calling to find out the results. Good luck! :luck: It'll be fine, it just might be a longer road 😳

Segovia, I haven't found an apartment yet as it is too early. Most apartments are looking for immediate move in, so I will start looking around may.

My DODMERB physical paperwork was sent 10/27, so I haven't been cleared yet.

On a seperate but related note, does anyone know what % of people require medical waivers?

I don't think I should need one but maybe the list of waiverable conditions is longer than I think.

Xmsr, I thought I was surely going to be disqualified for my gall stone(incidental find) and usuhs even said I would have to go through the waiver process. Interestingly, I received a qualification letter by dodmerb. I was under the impression that they ask for a waiver when there is any item checked on the list, but maybe it's not as black and white as I once thought.

I hope not, I stupidly thought we were supposed to be honest and marked down that I once went to a bar with my dad to celebrate my 21st birthday, (have you ever used alcohol) wore glasses and had a dental X-ray 6 months ago, (have you ever had an X-ray or radiation therapy) I also said yes to losing a lot of weight.

The doc asked me about these things and I explained them so hopefully I don't have to jump through a bunch of hoops with medical waivers.

Xmsr, u're fine. Sry, when I said list I was referring to the list of disqualifying conditions, not the dodmerb sheets u give to the doctor.

They seem to be a little more reasonable than they used to be. When I applied to the Naval Academy, seven years ago, I needed a waiver but this time I didn't (same Hx).

You're fine dude. The only one that might even warrant further investigation on their part is the losing weight thing. And even there I think you're fine.

I hope you at least had another acceptance to relax you a bit. Otherwise, that must have been a long five months.

Haha, yeah, fortunately I did have another acceptance. I didn't even think about that but yeah it would have been a terrifying 5 months. I was fairly nervous though, because if DoDMERB wouldn't clear me I figured I wouldn't get cleared for HPSP either and I've wanted to go into the Navy for a while. 😳

Last year, when I went through the whole DODMERB process, I was honest and said I was a social drinker (2-3 drinks a week) on those papers you bring to the physical. I had mentioned on another form that one of my hobbies was (and still is) to brew my own craft beers and yet on another form for security clearance stated that I was the manager of a small bar while I has in college. I week or so later, I recieved notice that i would have to under go a psyciatric exam to "determine my future potential for alcohol abuse". Seriously??? I had to drive 3 hours to see their head-doc just for me and him to sit and 'talk' for two hours about the weather and why I was wanting to joining the military. A week later, I finally got my 'qualified' status in the mail, but i had to jump threw a few very strange and very inconvenient hoops. Why did I tell you this story? Because, you collectively and some of the only people who A) know what i am talking about and B) think its funny:meanie:. Good news, a DODMERB 'qualified' ranking is good for 2 years, so i didn't have to do one this year.

Plus, in all honesty, i love a good beer. Oh, and crack 👍.

Got the good call this morning from Dr. Calloway. Navy, prior. Interviewed 10/1. Kind of had my eggs in one basket on this one, so it's a big relief.

best of luck to everyone still waiting. see you in Aug.

just got a call- conditional Navy spot, no prior service. interviewed 10/15. so excited!! best of luck to everyone!!

Congrats! Another navy spot gone. Well I'm off to pretend I'm a college student.

Accepted Air Force this afternoon!!! interviewed 10/1.

Congratulations to everyone who got a call so far today. Hopefully more of you are out celebrating already and forgot to post their acceptance.

Has anyone else noticed that 2/3 of the acceptances have been Navy? I wonder if that is an abberation based on the people on this board or whether Navy has actually been filling up faster than Army and AF. Maybe its a little of both. I know Navy is the superior service , but I wouldn't expect such a huge difference. It doesn't really matter. I was just curious.

Clark, what did you do in the Navy?

Does anybody know approximately how many people have been admitted thus far? Also, if one is placed on the waiting list or rejected, is the notification through email or through regular mail?

I would hope they do rejections by e-mail or snail mail. I missed a call from Dr. Calloway this morning and I'd hate to think that its a rejection.

Congratulations to the interview invites, and a big shot out to the acceptances. Keep 'em coming.

They did waitlisting by snail mail last year. I'd imagine that alt list or rejection results would be snail mail as well.

Big Talk NavyCY but anyone who's seen 2012 knows just how easily your biggest ships can get thrown around like toys by giant Tsunamis😀 Good thing that movie is based on pure BS or your entire service would be living on borrowed time😀

Oh and don't forget that Navy dosn't have any med center in Honolulu but Army does!😀 That's the kind of crazy thinking you see in the Navy😀

On a serious note, congrats to Kamaha, Dr. Z and Iceberg on your acceptances and Caprica on your interview invite😀 I look forward to meeting you all in Aug 2010 and of course on the Uniformed University class of 2014 facebook site, (remember it isn't official until its on facebook😀)

Oh and mad props to Dr. Z for choosing Army, I'll be seeing you on clinical rotation in Hawaii! 😀

True statement.

Has anyone who is still taking undergrad classes gotten a call yet? Just curious

Good question, I am curious because I graduated in 2008 but I'm currently taking a night class. Interviewed 10/15 and still waiting 🙂

are they done giving interview invites? i haven't heard from them and it has been over a month since my stuff was complete....this would make me super sad.

I will graduate in May and have already heard. I'm sure they are just backed up and you'll hear soon. Good luck!

It's still early I'm sure more interviews are on the way. It was a little over a month after I was complete before I heard anything. Good luck to you as well!

Interviews are done up through February. Once the class fills up, (around new years I believe) you interview for a wait list spot. Once that fills up you get put on an alternate list, which is a waitlist for the waitlist.

As incredible as it sounds, last year 1 or 2 people got in off the alternate list, meaning that the entire waitlist also got in so have hope!😀

Besides, interviews are sent out about a month in advance so you still have a decent shot at getting interviewed this year and competing for an actual spot.

XMSR3--not entirely accurate. The wait list does not "fill up." If you are selected for admission, but the class is full, you will be put on the wait list, and there's no limit to the number of applicants on said wait list. So....the wait list at USUHS is not like the wait list at other schools. It is used for people accepted to the class, but awaiting a spot. The alternate list is for the others, in simple terms, the alternate list is like a wait list at other schools.

To get in off the alternate list, people have to decline their acceptance, the wait list has to be exhausted, then they tap into the alternate list. But, that's not to say people don't get in off the wait list.

If people who interviewed on the same day as me have gotten a phone call and I haven't, does that mean waitlist or alt list for me?

Conditional acceptance - Navy! Good way to start the week 🙂

I interviewed on 10/15.

If people who interviewed on the same day as me have gotten a phone call and I haven't, does that mean waitlist or alt list for me?

I think its too early to say anything definitive about that. When did you interview? I don't know if anyone has been wait listed, alt listed, or rejected yet even. It seems like there has been only good news!

From the explanation I got last year, not necessarily. It all depends on where your application is. If the people who interviewed you are busy they may have been a little later in turning in their paperwork and going to the committee to discuss you. This would make your application a little lower on the stack than the other people you interviewed with. At least that's how I understood it from last year :luck:

i think i got my uc acceptance today. Not sure what the letter means exactly.

Ruiner would you please be so kind as to elaborate? What does it say? Does it have the words unconditional acceptance in it? When did you do your DODMERB physical and when did your paperwork get sent in, (that info is on the Concordia DODMETS website).

Anyone else get unconditional acceptances? Or on the flip side, anyone get notified that they need a waiver?

Silverhorse (or any other Navy folks at USUHS), what are you hearing about the transition to the new Navy Working Uniform? I'm curious how USUHS is going to utilize the NWU. Maybe more generally, what uniforms should I expect to need on a routine basis? The west coast is in the middle of rollout right now, but I don't want to buy something that I'm not going to wear for 5 years. Any insight you have would be appreciated.

Got mine, it states unconditional acceptance. It also states you must submit all transcripts by the start of classes. It lists the transcripts they expect. It says if you don't submit them by the start, you will be sent to the principal, oops I mean Dean.

For reference, I received my DODMERB approval (currently active duty, had my flight surgeon do it, then mailed directly to them). I received the conditional acceptance letter, then the congrats letter from CDR Calloway, then the unconditional letter.

I don't know about the waiver notification, but reading from your previous posts, I think you need to relax. It will be fine. :boom:

If it is anything like my DODMERB process from undergrad years, the notification that you need a waiver will be something along the lines of "You have been deemed medically unqualified for Naval service." Mine didn't say anything about requesting a waiver. It just said I was disqualified.

I'm an Army student, so take this with a grain of salt. I have heard that the NWU, aka the bad-ass street-fighter looking outfit with gold embroidery, is NOT going to be authorized in the national capital area (including USUHS) with possible exception of MPs....so I definitely wouldn't go and buy it...unless of course you're into that look

is anyone else still waiting for an interview? things seem to be taking longer than i expected....

come on USU, i want to hear from you!!

I have heard that the NWU, aka the bad-ass street-fighter looking outfit with gold embroidery,

Hmmm, I haven't heard it described quite like that before. We like to call it tactical blueberry. Seems appropriate. I had heard that D.C. might follow different rules, which is why I asked the question. I guess I'll try to delay buying the NWU as long as I can. Thanks.

So USUHS Navy doesn't get to wear the NWU? That's too bad, I looked up the NWU online and it looks like an ACU with different colors, and yes it does look badass😀

Of course I won't feel to bad for my Navy colleagues, they do have short sleeve uniforms after all😀

I've heard a lot of different things about the NWUs. I believe no one has any idea what's going to happen in the future. When I was at ODS we had one afternoon where our Company commander and senior enlisted personnel came to talk to USUHS students about transitioning to school. When asked the general consensus was "we have no idea, but not right now" There was speculation about whether we'd transition in January, but I haven't heard any more about it, so I'm assuming not.
What Commander Hernandez told us was that "the NWUs are replacing the coveralls and we don't wear coveralls, so we won't wear NWUs" which seems like a valid point. However, I know areas that also don't wear coveralls (ex. OCS) that has transitioned from khaki's to NWUs.

I personally wouldn't buy them. But you could wait until next summer. The uniform shop here at the hospital has everything you'd need (including the BDUs we wear now), and as long as you get there before the non-priors get out of ODS, you'll have no trouble getting BDUs in the right size. 🙂

And I agree with you. While I thought my Senior Chief looked a bit scary in the NWUs on the first day of ODS while yelling at us, I think he would have looked scary no matter what he was wearing. I don't consider them bad ass at all, but rather a large blueberry and I'd feel stupid wearing them 😉

Which uniform are you talking about? From what I've seen all the short sleeved uniforms we have, so does Army. Plus our SDBs undershirt is not short sleeved while you all can wear a short sleeved shirt under your class A jacket. So what's our advantage?
