It's gonna be weird when we actually do hear from UAB. It's been so long since I've heard anything. Like running into a fling who you haven't heard from in months. All awkward a s***. " So UAB I hear your only seeing 35+ MCATs now. Well I did hear that you got drunk that night and took a few 28s. *****"!

I hope I'm doing this before the week is over:

Does anyone else see a cruel April Fool's day joke in the works? 🙂
Good luck to everyone! :luck: :xf:

I can't remember...did anyone actually get an acceptance on that fateful Tuesday last year? I got a rejection and I had friends get waitlisted, but I don't know of outright acceptances. Does anyone else? I wonder if the best we're all hoping for now is the waitlist, or if there are still acceptances to be given out.

I don't know about the Tuesday thing but I'm pretty sure almost everyone is still waiting for acceptances. I have friends who made a 30, 34, and 40 and they are still waiting to hear back just like the rest of us. Plus if you've been watching the facebook group like myself, you'll notice that it's number of members has not moved from 50ish in months. UAB is just dragging their feet I believe..

Oh, well that's good news. Although I'm sitting on a 28, so maybe not good for me. I have been watching the FB group too and I also realized that some of the people that joined it are MS2's and MS3's so that they could make posts about apartments and stuff. However, I also know of at least one person sitting on multiple acceptances who hasn't joined the group, so there are probably others as well. Hopefully we will all have good news soon.

Last year out of the 10-15 people that posted on here, nobody was straight up accepted, it was all waitlists (I didn't remember that-which now that I think about it kind of sucks) and rejections. The waitlist emails went out from around 11:00-12:00, and the rejection emails from around 1:00-2:00. Who knows if they'll do it the same way this year, I just really have my fingers crossed for upper third.

If you get an email that says you are on the waitlist - does it tell her where on the wait list you are? i.e. upper 1/3, middle or lower 1/3?

Yeah the title of the email I got last year was UASOM Alternate List - Lower Third.

And it had this little promising paragraph in it:

"While your specific place on the list will not be revealed, we can inform you that you are in the lower third of the Alternate List. In recent past years it has been rare that individuals ranked at this level have gained an acceptance to the incoming class. Currently the class is over-subscribed and it is possible it will be May before any alternate is accepted."

I remember mine too. "UASOM Admissions Decision - No Longer Under Consideration." You don't even have to open the email to know your fate.

We are past the date of UAB's waitlist/rejection extravaganza from the last two years. UAB is deff. behind on their stuff but we should deff. hear something this week. You can see the dates of acceptances from different people from different tiers in this attachment.

Wow, that's a pretty comprehensive list. I have a huge biochem test today and am scared to be too near my email lest I get bad news. So I worked it out that a friend will text me if announcements come out. That way, if I haven't gotten a text I know I'm safe to be online. Ah, we're a neurotic bunch. Anyways, good luck to everyone! I'll be lurking on study breaks.

Thanks DOCnAbox for keeping such a good record of acceptances.
Good luck SarahLiz on your biochem exam!
Best wishes to all!

so is everyone under the impression that there won't be any acceptances given out at this point? ugh, what a depressing thought.

I'm starting to wonder if they are ever going to say anything at all, lol.

I'm guessing that if we don't hear today then that means the adcom will probably meet on Thursday and we will maybe hear something on Friday...

Thanks GL2814! I seriously need it!

I'm sure you did great on your test SarahLiz82; luck was simply plan B.

Let's hope we all get good news on Friday!
Happy waiting 🙂

Could be Friday the way things seem to be going this year...

Over the past few years, here are the dates and days of when they have notified people about the waitlist:

2006 - Friday March 24
2007 - Friday March 30
2008 - Thursday March 27
2009 - Tuesday March 24
2010 - ?!?!?!?😱!?!?!?!?!?!?!?:scared:!?!?

And yes, I have way too much time on my hands. I need to get back in school ASAP.

👍 Great work Auburn05! Informational and funny 👍

So does this mean there won't be that many straight acceptances left?

Wouldn't count on it. Pretty sure the mass of us are waitlisted/rejected.

That seemed to happen last year as well. I wonder why? You would think that at least one of us would get in.

What are everyone's backup plans? This is my second application cycle and the second time that I only interviewed at UAB. I don't know why I've never been called by South.

Second time here too. That's weird you haven't heard anything from South. I'm waiting on UAB, USA, and UT-Memphis.

To answer your question, I have no backup plan this year. If I don't get in to one of those schools, I guess I am just SOL. As much as I really want to be a doctor, I don't know if I could handle a third application cycle.

That's kind of what I'm thinking...I don't know if I can do this a third time. I applied to UAB, USA, UT-Memphis, Tennessee State, and Vandy. I was rejected from UT-Memphis and Vandy outright. Did secondaries for UAB, USA, and Tennessee State. And only got an interview at UAB. I wonder if there is something wrong with me...

I think it is because they already sent out the e-mails for the acceptances and now they are making the waitlist/rejection e-mails.

Hey everyone, I texted my brother to see if what the word on the streets is at Volker and he said that all he knows is that someone from Birmingham Southern got an acceptance a couple of days ago.

My fortune cookie from New China today said, "you will soon be receiving some good written news." I really hope that's true!!

Edit: Random Thought! If anyone gets rejected (which I really hope isn't the case) and needs a job there are several research technician/assistant openings in the Department of Pathology here at UAB including one in my lab. Just thought I'd throw that out there. =)

New China? Save you're taste buds for, arguably, the best Chinese anywhere. Chop Suey Inn in Homewood. Get the Mongolian beef. Thank me tomorrow.

Do you have another cookie? Will you open one for me?

I've never been to Chop Suey Inn. I'll definitely have to check it out!!

Haha Hopefully, the cookie will extend it's fortune to everyone that posts on the UASOM thread! 😛

I hope you're right.

I was Facebook chatting with somebody else on this thread and we were pondering what pre-meds did back in the olden days, you know, before the internet. I guess that maybe they checked their mailboxes compulsively, he said, nah, they probably stalked the mailman. Then I had this terrific cartoon vision of deranged students doing like a dumpster dive into the back of mail trucks, fervently digging for letters. Or calling the school to see if the letters got lost or stolen. Man, if we get in we should all get together and do something really awesome for skit night. I have some other pretty good ideas.

Yes, pages 4 and 10 are both very interesting... if they're able to keep up with these guidelines. Nothing is set in stone except the committee's decisions lol

ERS said this on south's page by accident if anyone was interested...

Mind that was written early in the admissions cycle. I'm absolutely positive if things were to slow down or change they would not bother editing their online pdf.

Does anyone feel like it is going to be tough to start prepping for the next cycle when the current one is dragging on so long? I probably SHOULD start studying for the MCAT, but I can't motivate myself until I get a decision. Still waiting on 3 schools post interview - two of which are the ones in Alabama

So I guess the best bet for people with low gpa's/ decent mcats is probably retake the MCAT this summer then take grad science classes at UAB next year/ volunteering/shadowing/research?

Yeah that's pretty much the plan. The thing that sucks though, is that if you are waitlisted, you might not hear anything until July and you won't get any feedback until after that.

Hey guys,

I just got accepted to BU yesterday and am going to withdraw my acceptance to UAB. Good news for someone I guess. I'm OOS, so I don't know if that makes any difference to them. Good luck to everyone still waiting!

well you kind of know based on the wait list- i guess the tough call would be if you got in the middle third of uab's WL....i think south alabama goes through the majority of their WL so you're in pretty good shape if you even get on theirs

Thanks! Enjoy the summer!

So, I had a 25Q, 23R, and now a 28R. Do you guys think I need to take it again?

Congratulations! - Boston will be a nice place to be - and THANK YOU for going ahead and withdrawing now instead of waiting to do that. Hopefully they will fill your slot with an "in-state"!

I've heard that for us waiting that no news is good news and to hang in there. I'm not sure it will even be this week.

i will actually have a panic attack / mental breakdown if we don't hear anything this week.

I don't know. The committee is still reviewing applications...

Really. :-D And it seems as though many of the accepteds have 4 or 5 in hand...
