3.84 undergad, 33 MCAT. I guess I didn't have enough EC's or else I had a bad committee letter. I thought my interview was decent, but not great. They said to wait a while before asking for feedback.

I didn't really take any of the pre-med stuff seriously until spring of last year, so I'm sure that didn't help me either. I probably should have taken a year off, and worked on my application but I guess I'll be doing that anyway. I'll definitely apply to more schools now that I don't have to worry about grades while interviewing.

I'm so sorry... I'll tell you that taking time off was the best thing I ever did. Don't let this get you down. 😳

I was rejected today.

I'm sorry dude. I can't believe you were rejected with stats like yours! Look at it this way though... Beefing up the resume with volunteering, shadowing, research, etc. is the easiest part of the process.... Just takes some time. After you shadow some more and if you get a summer research job, you will deff. have some good LOR. So good luck with everything!

Hey ddroukas... I don't know if you're working today but if u are, do u know why there are a bunch of cops running around the eye foundation right now?

It seems like there is always something weird going on in Alabama on Fridays.

did anyone hear from uab today?? i know the wait is almost over but still makes me nervous...

I think next week could be the big decision week. Last year I got the news (ended up being bad news, lower third waitlist) on Tuesday, March 24th.

Didn't catch it. The date stamp on your post says 12:17--I left around 11:30 (Retina Specialists took a last-minute Spring Break and cancelled all their afternoon rounds). Did you ever find out?

Anybody else think we'll hear something the next few days? This wait is killing me! :xf:

i hope so! did someone on here say that they heard on a tuesday last year?

does anyone know where we can find match stats and board stats? i'm just interested because i would like to see how UAB has done with its new curriculum, especially compared to south.

i think it's pretty tough to find that info without calling the schools to ask for it directly. as far as boards since UAB changed the curriculum, i think they fell off a lot for the first class and have made improvements since then. with gross anatomy being reintroduced i expect them to get back to what they were before the change. as far as match stats, i doubt if the most recent info (this year's matching) has been compiled and released. last year's class was still on the old curriculum and had very good match rates.

Checked around today and got no info on it. I heard sometimes patients run from the VA to CEFH for some reason...( escape? delirium? who knows) and the cops catch them there.

If this year follows the pattern of last year, which it seems like it has more or less, than we will most likely hear something this week. My guess is tomorrow since it came on a Tuesday (March 24th about 9:30AM) at this time last year. Two years ago, however, it was Thursday 3/27/08. Good luck everyone :xf: :luck:

I'm right there with you. It really doesn't help that the doc I work for asks me everyday "heard anything yet??" and the answer is always... no, not yet.

Edit: I'm also afraid to check my email this week...

My boss constantly asks me too! He's already started looking for a replacement even though I still remain skeptical that I'll gain acceptance...

Well no news today. I probably checked my email 10 times during work. This thread has been eerily quiet recently, and I don't like it.

Someone should call and see when they plan on ending our pain.. and by someone I mean not me 🙂

Great plan. Not it either, but I nominate DOCnAbox. 😛
(Don't mean to call you out, yours is the only name I remember who hasn't said "not it" yet)

I'm off work tomorrow so I guess I'll bite the bullet and give them a call. I'll keep everyone informed.

Thanks man, I recently had an interview this month and am getting kinda nervous. 🙂

The new curriculum is fine. We do SOME gross anatomy but it isn't a comprehensive course. You have about labs every now and then. I think in all we have had about 20 in the ~6 months.

The current MS-3 board scores were skewed by the ~15% failures. That class also sports the highest scoring UASOM student ever and a lot of 230+ students. Ultimately, the curriculum that year was light on a lot of things (embryo, anatomy, immuno, phys) which are some big (and easy) Step 1 points. Essentially, some people are good at standardized tests and some aren't; the first year of the new curriculum just didn't achieve in propping up the bad testers.

The curriculum has improved every year since then and it continues to evolve. The faculty is represented by numerous USMLE question writers and they will prepare you for board style questions. Almost all of your path questions are written by a guy that writes questions and path is the #1 thing on step 1.

Also, Match was last week and the scramble is about over (should be anyways), so I would expect final decisions this week or the next.

Not it! Damn, too late! ha, I would call but I'm the most superstitious person about stuff like that. Hopefully we'll hear something this week. Every time I feel my iphone vibrate, my heart jumps and I check the e-mail.... Stupid ticket master e-mails. I don't give a **** if Kings of Leon is playing at Verizon music center. I saw them last fall and they sucked!

Well I just called and spoke with someone in the admissions office, she said that they don't give her a timeline of when the final decisions will be made. All she could really tell me was that the final interviews were conducted on March 11th, and she didn't know anything besides that. The wait continues... :scared:

Thanks for calling!

Thanks for the info! I was just talking to my boss the other day (he's one of those writers) and he told me that on exams they do try to emulate the USMLE style for exams. However, sometimes they're restricted by the material that was presented in class in that the questions don't necessarily represent what you might see on the USMLE... He said that when he was in med school the professor's gave lectures but then also told students to read X book and Y book and questions came from any of the material. He thinks that way is better preparation for the USMLE but wrecked havoc on grades... It's hard to say what's better... I think you're right though, it depends on the student.

Oh yeah, a friend posted that on Facebook yesterday. I thought it was really good too.

did anyone see on south's thread that they're not sending out final words until the 15th? i REALLY hope uab doesn't make us wait that long.

I just called today and the secretary said that we may have to wait until mid april for everything to get finalized in terms of the acceptances and waiting list to be completed.

Oh and I called south not UAB

Anyone hear anything yet today???

Anyone hear anything yet today???

Nothing yet. It's Friday after 3pm... I doubt there will be any news until Monday. Relax and have a nice weekend everybody! And if you feel the sudden urge of withdrawing your application, go right ahead! I for one won't mind 😛

Newb here. Interviewed the last day at UAB 3/11 and here's what I've heard back so far:

(wait for it...!)

Nothing.

Heard "The Waiting (is the hardest part)" By Tom Petty earlier today. Damn you, Mr. Petty, and your Destroyers, too. I dunno....rejection seems like it might be harder. A cliff jumper, even?

Well hopefully it will only be a couple more days of waiting :xf:
