Thanks!!! 🙂 Any tips for the interview?

Congrats Ditto! Um... I used this web site to compile a list of possible interview questions so I wouldn't get thrown off.

http://more.studentdoctor.net/schoollist.php?type=2

Honestly no weird questions were asked. Mainly just things on my application that interested them. None of them even asked me why I wanted to be a doctor, which was a huge relief bc it's so hard to answer that with out sounding full of it. Just make sure you go over your application and be able to talk about what you did and how you felt about it. Good Luck! And don't worry, its very laid back!

Rhino rirus: Welcome man. Just spent today updating it and added IS vs OOS; MCAT score; and GPA if they listed these. Enjoy

Um....If I don't get in to any schools.... I will probably re-apply as soon as we are able to. I will also look for more research jobs and try to volunteer some more. I can't really get more shadowing hours bc I work full time. I will not retake the MCAT though. I took it three times and even though I killed a few practice tests, I have come to realize that I will always do poorly on verbal on the real deal. I'm gonna try not to even think about re-applying until May though.

BTW. From looking at previous acceptances, I think some might go out soon.

Are there no acceptances past Feb. besides off the waitlist?

Seriously, some really do need to go out soon because I'm getting soooo irritated from UAB--they're the only school that hasn't told me whether I'm rejected or not 😡

OMG! I just got an interview invite!!!!! I didn't think that was going to happen!!!!!!

:soexcited:

Anyone else going to be interviewing on Feb 11th?

That's awesome! Don't be too nervous about the interviews because they are super laid back. One of my professors told me that you get an interview because you look good on paper, and they just want to make sure that you will fit at the school and actually have a personality 🙂 Good luck!

Thanks everyone!! Knowing that I'm not a complete lost cause makes me so excited!!

I think there may be one or two acceptance dates in February and March.

My predictions...
Acceptance... 2/5/10; 2/12/10; 3/5/10

Wait list/Accepted/Rejected ...3/22/10

it's 2/5... another empty inbox +pity+

i don't know if there will actually be acceptances today. someone was accepted in the middle of january -- look at the acceptance thread.

My bad, I forgot to look at the acceptance thread. Well I guess we'll see after 3PM today to see if any went out. Good luck to everyone. And remember. No news is indeed good news, just not as good as the actual acceptance letter.

Here is the updated list... let me know if there needs to be more dates added.

So does anyone know if UAB is still sending out interview invites? Just wondering how far through the process they are.

They send out interviews until mid March--last year they were coming out as late as March 2nd or so.

So I haven't heard of any acceptances being sent out on friday. Anyone get any news>?

I'm just assuming that I'll find out on the final acceptance/rejection/waitlist day.

so has UAB given out any rejections yet? is it common for a school to keep people waiting this long? it's just so nerve-wracking to wait nearly 4 months and not hear anything, especially when i've gotten into other schools.

They definitely reject during the process. It is just how they operate. They make keep your file for longer if you are instate because they favor instate and keep reviewing your file if you are competitive ( i assume you are since you been accepted other places). They just have a scoring system for GPA and MCAT and until they lower the bar you won't get an invite for interview. It sucks to wait. Trust me I am in the same boat for the second year in a row.🙄

i'm in the same waiting boat with them... any ideas about where the bar might be at this point in the process? What are some stats of recent IS interviewees?

I interviewed in January. High 20s mcat 3.7ish gpa. do not want to get too specific...

I interviewed on 9/24 and haven't heard anything else from UAB...I don't know how to glean any positives from this.

I interviewed at UAB on 11/19 and haven't heard a word since. I'm OOS, but have a grandfather and uncle who went there; 35Q MCAT; 3.9 GPA; Biology/French double major.
I was pretty sure my interviews did not go well (first interviews I did, very nervous, fumbled a lot), but I've been waiting for almost 3 months now. They've got to have made a decision, right?

Judging from last year and the friends I know in school now, If you have a 31 or lower mcat with a good GPA or a 32+ MCAT with a lower GPA, it is a good chance that you will be waitlisted. I know some have been accepted already with these scores, but the majority will be waitlisted. Hang in there everyone! or give up... haha!

Any other reapplicants still waiting to get an interview?

I was waitlisted last year (lower third) and I was told in my post interview feedback that I was only a few people down the list from getting accepted (great right?).

My application was complete on 8/1/09 and I have done everything that I was told in my interview feedback, and I still haven't heard anything.

I'm just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat.

Right there with you, interviewed last year but did not make the waitlist. I have improved my application as well but have not heard back yet. My guess is that if I get an interview at all this year, it'll be on the last possible day.

Well at least I'm not the only one. I even went as far to email to admissions office and basically ask in a nice way "WTF?" and I just received a short response, "We will be interviewing up until March 13." So if I manage to get an interview, which I'm not counting on, it will probably be March 13. It's just frustrating after coming so close last year, then improving my application for this year and not even hearing anything.

Seriously, the 13th? I thought interviews were Thursdays only...I just paid for a vacation that leaves on the 12th🙁

I just read the email again, it's March 11**

Just so ya know, I just flipped a little when I read the 13th...huge relief🙂. I was thinking they had a special Saturday interview for reapplicants. Thanks for the clarification!

I also interviewed around that time, on 11/12 and I'm IS. I still haven't heard anything either. I'm starting to get really scared 🙁

Sorry about that. Haha I WISH they had a special Saturday interview session for reapplicants. Have you had any other interviews this year?

I can definitely sympathize! I emailed them and they said the exact same thing they say to everyone else (they probably have an automatically generated message by now...): "we interview until March, etc..."

Out of curiosity, how do you think they went for you? I really don't feel good about mine. 👎

Speaking from experience (I was waitlisted last year), try not to stress too much about anything yet. Last year I interviewed in early October, didn't hear ANYTHING until April, placed on the waitlist, and then had to worry all summer until finally receiving a rejection.

I know it is hard not to worry about it, but there's really nothing you can do about it so just try to ride it out.

That makes me feel better. Not that you had to go through that (it sounds terrible), but you clearly survived for another cycle! Were you accepted this year? (or did you go somewhere else last year?)

Well it's a long story, but UAB was the only school that I interviewed at last year. So I am reapplying this year and so far I have only had 2 interviews (USA and UTHSC).

Still waiting to hear from UAB 😴

Actually I would feel awkward at an exclusive session for reapplicants--like they're not *really* considering us or something. I'll be content to be with people who didn't screw up the first time:/

Didn't get waitlisted last time either, kinda has me worried about this time around but I did improve my application this round(IMHO of course😉 )

What are your stats? If you don't mind me asking

I'm tired of worrying about it. It's getting to the point that I don't care anymore... If I decide to continue pursuing medical school, my plan is to retake the MCAT (f-ed up one section) and not re-apply here! Everything else about my application is stellar.

This used to be where I really wanted to go to med school. After this process, I really don't want to deal with similar backwards procedures as a med student, assuming this is a trend. Getting in--or not--will be bitter sweet in either case.

I was really nervous for the first interview so I'm not sure. The other two went pretty well I guess. Who know's what they're thinking? Why don't you feel good about yours? I think my South Alabama interview went better.

I believe UAB sent out some acceptances today.
I am OOS and got an email today.

Interviewed way back on Oct 29, I think.

I'm OOS and got accepted today as well. I interviewed on 17 November.

I finally got an interview invite a few minutes ago!! So pumped! Interview at UAB and South in consecutive weeks! Good luck to all those still waiting. I thought they were done inviting people, but I guess they aren't. Woot!

Interview is next Thursday... they don't mess around.

I was really nervous and when I kind of thought about how I must have sounded to an outside observer, I thought, "Man, that girl has no idea what she's talking about. And she's kind of stupid." And the interviewers did not help to change that impression. My interviews at South were just nice and easygoing and I felt totally welcome. This could be skewed by the fact that I was accepted at South and blatantly ignored by UAB, so I'm just projecting how I'm feeling about each school right now...

I don't know what they'll decide, but I think I don't care anymore (except that I would like them to give me a final answer so I can stop being curious).

For those who haven't interviewed yet, just wanted to let you know that something's changed in the Matrix...my secondary status now says "remain under consideration for an interview". Last year(I'm a reapplicant) it changed to that a few days before being offered an interview. We'll see.

Must say, I'm a lot more relaxed this go around.

Ya, same here that's how I felt about the first one I had. Hopefully, the person representing me was one of the other two interviewers. I still haven't heard back from South bc I'm still on hold. Congrats on gettin into South. Are you really thinking about going there or will you decline the acceptance? Right about now, I'd love an acceptance at either school!

Yeah I remember that happened last year to me too. Mine changed to the "remain under consideration for an interview" about a month ago... it got me all excited for nothing.

I'm more relaxed this go around too (not obsessing about it every day like I was last year), but now that it is getting close to cruch time I'm starting to get a little more worried. I mean surely I won't have to apply 3 F'in times...

Congrats!

That's several OOS students who have been accepted. I don't recall any IS acceptances on SDN since November.

3.85/29-can't remember the letter

When did you interview last year? Mine was on the last possible day.

Good to know that there are other reapplicants out there. When was your application finished? I got mine in earlier this year (than last), so I was kind of surprised to not have had an invite yet.
