I think they will send out acceptances tomorrow. Next Friday would be rather late and closer to winter break...

:xf:

I hope you're right.

😎

Was Bham your first choice Sanityonleave?

I'm pretty sure some acceptances will go out tomorrow. Could you ask for a better Christmahanakwanzikah present. I'm half Jewish/Christian (Cashew) so I know that would make my Chrismakah. I saw the med students walking in the hospital a little while ago on the tour. I was like, "Wow. Look how young they look, where do the months go?" Haha. Good luck everyone and happy whatever...

Ok about acceptances...

If you meet the current standard for admission at the end of your interview you will be accepted either the next day or Monday. If you don't meet the current standard then you don't get accepted until they adjust the standard. There is another committee that sets the current standard for admissions (basically your score from the subjective and objective parts of your application). If you are above that standard you get in... if you're below it then you don't. You basically get put onto an excel sheet with your name and score and when the admissions score is lowered (to meet the projected # of acceptances at that date) they send out bulk acceptances to anyone that is above the new standard that wasn't already accepted.

As far as campus assignments... you can never tell when that is coming out. It is generally a good idea to just enjoy being accepted and realize you will spend 2 years in B'ham regardless.

As far as the # of acceptances goes... UASOM has traditionally over-subscribed their class by about 20-30%. This means that when final acceptances go out in April they will have accepted ~220-230 people. If you didn't know... you can only hold ONE acceptance past something like May 15th (not sure on exact date) so UASOM accepts more than they have spots for knowing that a lot of people will drop (AMCAS releases your acceptances to schools around April) and they construct a wait-list. The wait-list has gotten into the lower third the past TWO years but didn't get past the first 8 people the year previous.

Thanks for posting that sanity, I also received my campus assignment, Birmingham! I was accept 10/21 and Bham was my first choice

Wow thanks VanBrown for all the info. So you said UAB accepts (220-230)alot more than the 188 out of about 252 interviewed written on their site? Doesn't the waitlist work by accepting most upper and middle, and sometimes getting into the lower third?

The 188 is just IS students. Last year, they accepted 275 students total.

No... they accept outright about 220-230 then they take as many off the waitlist as they need to.

I don't have the exact numbers but they went through it all at orientation. So total acceptances are about 270 or whatever but about 100 people drop acceptances and 40ish are taken from the waitlist.

It isn't a great system but it is a lot better than a lot of places coughsouthcough

Yes, I realize that the 275 number includes people taken off the wait list. Brownspice630 was thinking of the total number of IS students accepted, not the total number of students accepted. Obviously, both numbers include people accepted off the wait list because UAB does not differentiate between outright acceptances and wait list acceptances on their website.

I'm really hoping that today is the day! It would make for the best Christmas present!

I'd be interested to know where the bar is right now. I am in-state 32Q/3.55 (3.9 post-bacc)....average ECs, decent interview.

Hard to say. Homeboy Piazza dude already got in with a 27 and 3.86. Many haven't gotten in with above a 33 MCAT and good gpa... I dont know what to think anymore... Props to him though

Once again, another Friday after 3:00PM and another heartbreak. Has anyone heard anything today? I guess I should stop making predictions because I have been wrong two weeks in a row!

damn you and your predictions! 🙄

Ahh seriously?
So did anyone get an acceptance today?
I mean if they didn't send out acceptances today, then that's a good thing, right?

Blah!

accepted! OOS, interviewed 10-8.

well, it looks like it's time to brush the dust off the ole' mcat books

Has anyone heard of the adcoms waiting to make decisions about reapplicants until after the spring semester. The thought being that they can report fall grades if they are taking classes? Also, how active is UAB with offering interviews after christmas time. My status has said "Secondary under review" since 9-4. Sort of wondering what is the deal. But UAB doesn't want you to ask any questions about your application completeness. So I am waiting like the rest of us.

damn you and your predictions! 🙄

Unfortunately my predictions were right... Congrats to those who got accepted! And rhino, or should I say J. How about that Ingram? Roll Tide!

So admissions probably isn't handing out any acceptances tomorrow, correct?

I hope you're right.

Yup. I selected B'ham only for my choice.

As a sidenote -- as far as today being too close to winter break to send out acceptances -- I have a final on Tuesday! Damn my undergrad. Ugh.

Hope you guys get some good news today, and Merry Christmas all!

I bet they'll send out emails saying we're still under consideration.

my online status has read "Remain Under Consideration For Interview" since October (!) my app was complete in august, and i sent an update in november. i know it's an up-hill battle for OOS-ers, but i'm really hoping they'll give me a chance.

does anyone know the last interview date here? thanks.

What do you guys mean when you say "send an update?"

Do you send new transcripts or just "hey I took X and made an A."

My status changed online to reflect a campus assignment in B'ham this afternoon! So it's all done, and I now finally have a campus assignment. I was accepted 11/13.

Good luck everyone!

Got the Birmingham placement as well, first choice. Good luck guys!

i am a non-traditional student, so my update consisted of a new job, new volunteer work in a clinical setting, and some final grades from post-bacc coursework (ended after i submitted my AMCAS in july - i just said i'd bring an official updated transcript to interview if invited).

everyone has their own reasons for writing an update - if you have nothing substantial to say since submitting your AMCAS, i would guess that an update is not necessary.

send them an official transcript now... try addressing it to Admissions - Mrs. Calma

So what are the chances of another round of interview invites coming out next week?

Likely zero. Don't think they would have a meeting on Christmas Eve and who would be there to send the e-mails out on christmas day?

Edit: Sorry, thought U had said acceptances

does anyone have any idea how many acceptances have been offered so far? and how many more rounds of acceptances do you all think will be sent out before the waitlist is generated? Merry Christmas to everyone, by the way!

This is a good resource. See page 4 under the table of important dates and deadlines. According to this, final decisions are made on April 1st. I assume the committee accepts people every couple of weeks between mid-October and late March. (That's been the trend so far...)

i applied decently early and my status has been remain under consideration since october. what are the chances of someone with a 3.6 overall, 28 mcat and in-state. starting to feel a little dejected about an interview chance.

I was told by the prehealth advisor at my school that UAB gives a "courtesy" interview to anyone who is IS with at least a 24 MCAT. That being said I have above a 24 but still haven't received an interview invite. My status has also said remain under consideration since october.

I wonder how much of the class has been filled? Since acceptances are given out over a five month period, and we are two months in, I would think that only about half of the class has been filled.

Accepted 10/21 (in-state) and withdrew last week. Hope one of you guys gets that spot!

Congrats and appreciate the withdraw. If anyone is accepted to UAB and not considering going there I'm sure we would all appreciate the withdraw. Good luck to every one and Happy Festivus!

Same here :/

I'm not sure if that's true because I know people from previous years who had above a 24 MCAT and in-state who never got interviews.

They had decent GPA's around 3.4 to 3.5 ish so I don't know what the problem was...

I am thinking that based on UAB's past history, there will be 2 more acceptances before the alternate list is released. I think one of those acceptances will come in Feb. and then one in March, and then I think the alternate list will come out, which I imagine quite a few of the 2014 class will come from. Good luck to all! I hope the new year brings fantastic news to you all! 🙂
