Hi Everyone,

I'd just like to let you know that I called the Admissions Office today regarding all the questions we have about the "X's" next to the LOR, fee, and prerequisites. Here's what they told me:

1. The LOR's status will take a while to be updated, approximately up to 3 weeks. There's only 2 workers at the office and they're uploading LOR's manually.

2. Fees status should take a few days.

3. Pre-requisites status will take even longer, they need to verify the courses. She said that it might even be verified after interviews.

Soo this leads me to my next question:
Woozypoozy, BlueElmo.. you guys said your application is completed. But do you guys still have an "X" next to your prerequisite status?
I've also been complete at davis for a while. Here is what my status page says:
Initial Application Received by UCD School of Medicine 07/10/2009

Letters of Recommendation - Received 07/20/2009

Prerequisites - Completed 07/16/2009

So it looks like my Pre-reqs were verified the day I submitted

That is blazing fast. I was complete on 7/15, and no word.
Did it come through email?

Mine is fully complete with no X's anywhere.

Wait if it takes three weeks to do the lor uploads, what if it is past the deadline? I've done my part and submitted it, but I don't want my app to be rejected bc it took them too long to upload the letters

no.

i wrote them an email asking if all green checks means i'm complete, and if i should worry that i haven't gotten a complete email.

their response basically said "relax you spastic premed, you're fine"

Good God man.. can you blame them?

Good God man.. can you blame them?

nope. i bet the people in all these admissions offices want to tear their hair out.

i wish i could somehow lock myself out of my email for a few days so i can stop obsessing :scared:

I have a couple questions if you guys can answer:

2.As I am entering my coursework, I realized a problem. My undergraduate institution has separate labs and lectures for some classes in chemistry, biology, and organic chemistry. How should we enter them there. Also, do the units listed that says required correspond to Quarter units?

2. One of my experiences that I wish to enter is my current occupation, however, I am unable to save without an End Date. I tried to type in Present, but that would not work?

3. Also, each experience requires a reference. What if you don't have a reference since you have not volunteered at the place for awhile. And I know the person in charge changed. It won't let you save it.

4. What does it mean...can you verify this information? If you say no because the volunteering cannot technically be verified and I know the person is not there anymore, what should I do. does it decrease the experience's effectiveness?

IMO:

1. Enter them as they are on your transcripts.

2. Put the date that you think you'll work until.

3. Just put the volunteer office.

4. You really couldn't get in touch with that person if you absolutely had to?

Thanks Jammer, #3 and #4 were about the same thing, so I guess I can just use the volunteer office, and say yes if it does need to be verified later on, I could track the down the person. Do you think they actually verify what you enter?

yes they do, the admissions office says that some committee members really love to do so.

CupcakeMD, you mentioned you had a red x next to the prereqs, if so you need to submit those. If you don't have the "submit" button, you have not entered at least ONE for each of the courses listed in the instructions. Once you have at least one entered for each you will get the submit button. This would complete that portion of the secondary.

I hope it is permissible for me to post here. I am the project manager for the online admissions system for UCD. While I can offer information with respect to the technical use of our online system, I cannot answer any business process questions.

So far, only one person from SDN received an interview invite?

So... I never got this secondary. I'm OOS and I got the UCLA secondary a long time back. Is this basically a rejection from Davis?

its not a rejection until you get an email..however UCD is not OOS friendly and admit very very few OOS students. The only UC schools OOS people should even bother applying to are UCSD, UCLA, UCSF. Probably not even UCSD to be honest. UCI and UCD just dont take OOS really.

Not necessarily, but keep in mind that UCD accepts very few OOS (much less than UCLA).

Looks like it

I know one other person who also got an interview invite. My email says that we cannot schedule an interview date until after Aug 16. So I guess the first batch of people will start getting invites from now until Aug 16? Interviews start in Sept.

Excuse me for a stupid question, but if your LORs are not in yet, then they won't look at your application, right? so there is no reason to rush to submit your supplemental if your LORs have not been received?

LORs receieved by amcas or UCD? If amcas doesnt even have your LORs then you cant be complete so no rush...if amcas has your letters, then UCD wont even bother getting them until you submit the 2ndary.

no serious that was the exact wording i got from the office lol. I asked becuase i had no contact info for one experience...

That's great. Well that should weed out a lot of people

Oh thats how it work?!?! Yeah I have my LORs in AMCAS and marked off to be sent to UCD. Okay I'm getting this done asap.

yes they do, the admissions office says that some committee members really love to do so.

Uh-oh...i just hope the person i entered gets back to them then since she is out of the country right now...do you happen to know if they will contact you if they can't reach the person you entered?

no idea but really i wouldnt worry...even if you have no contact info they said its not bad persay, its just up to the committee member as to how much they care or not.

Do you guys mind if we start one of those chains letting us know the dates of our app completion/interview invites? I think that will be really helpful, since there's alot of ambiguity going on about when LOR's are received. Ok, I'll give this a shot.. Here goes.. ! 😳

AR: AMCAS Received
SI: Secondary Invitation
SS: Secondary Sent
LOR: LOR Received
SC: Secondary Complete (by UCD)
II: Interview Invite

Cupcake MD: IS, AR: 6/08, SI: 7/10, SS: 7/26, LOR: ??, SC:??, II: ??

Thank you! I called UCD again, the day after, and another admissions counselor answered the phone. He was reallyyy helpful and nice, and guided me through that. I felt silly haha, but thanks! 🙂

Just a quick question, what is UCD primarily known for? (besides veterinary medicine...)

This is a gargantuan of an application. Almost as painful as the UCSD one. Hmrph, what is up with the UCs?? Maybe the adcom people just like to read...

[EDIT: I misread the app instruction and wrote 500 words for each question instead. Talk about self-inflicted torture.]

Complaining aside, I do have a question. I am retaking the MCAT again in Sept. (I got a 35 the first time and 29 the second time (CRY)...now I am trying again). Am I bound not to hear back from any schools until scores are out in October??

In other words, am I screwed??? 🙁

*sigh*

(crozzing my fingers that I will do as well as I did the first time...too bad that score expired).

Probably Ed. Apparently, he rocks.

Ed rocks. Period. I spoke with him for 30 seconds yesterday but he totally made my day. I always thought the undergraduate admissions offices were very harsh- they sounded like they didn't want to hear from you and that you were a pain. Medical school admissions offices seem completely different- with the exception of two people I've spoken to at two different schools, everyone is incredibly helpful and warm. 🙂 Ed is no exception.

We just discovered that the campus mail servers were blocking some of our emails going out to the applicants. Since they have now fixed their issue, we are resending just to make sure all get the email.

Just got one too. Wish it was an interview invite 😛
