At UCI theres more then other UCs I know that much. Also remember UCI is basically the least "attractive" UC so to speak in the minds of most applicants. UCI loses a decent amount of applicants to LA, SF, SD. 28-29 mcat wont kill you at UCI if other areas are interesting. While a 28-29 is going to kill you at SF and SD and in all likelyhood LA too. Its not like 1/2 the class is 28-30 mcats,i was just saying in comparison to the other UCs, UCI is not huge on numbers. They only take in state residents also. The best in state residents in all likelyhood will have other acceptances at more "prestigious" schools also just something to think about. a 4th yr student on the committee always jokes how everyone withdrawals from UCI for the other UCs 😛.

And MSAR stats are nearly always inflated.

I think I agree with you. You also have to remember that the MSAR is accepted #'s, not matriculated.

So the website's still not working, but based on the info just posted, I guess it doesn't really matter. At least not getting anything from Irvine until August keeps my workload down for now.

The top of the log in page says that you will not be able to access the website until you are verified.

hi casillas, we have been verified and received noticed that UCI received our AMCAS app. login still does not work.

^^^^^^ what he said.

I was verified on the 30th.

i emailed to ask and they said even if u are verified they are having IT problems and working on fixing it so no worries if u cant get in to the site.

ps im a CA resident and i want to stay here no matter what too!

just got my 2ndary yay! I was gonna be sad if my own alma matter cut me 🙂

I just got the 2ndary invite email, i suppose they were just having technical difficulties

Just in case others were wondering, as im sure this will pop up...

Do all applicants receive secondary applications?
No. Approximately 1700 applicants are sent secondary applications via e-mail after preliminary reviews by the Admissions Committee. Applicants are advised to check their online status page frequently to make sure that they haven't received a secondary application and somehow missed the e-mail.

So they screen somewhat harder then say UCLA and UCD who give out a lot more secondaries. UCI gets about 5k apps a little less then the other UCs. But they only take in state residents basically. Oh an about 500 will get interviews in the end.

Got mine. So I guess I went 4/5 on the UCs. UCSF 😡

Got it! Yay! All UC's in except UCSF. Who cares about SF?!

lol for real 😛, though i went 3/5🙁. Also fwiw UCI does look at the app before sending out secondaries its not numbers based purely. They give points out for each section; life experiences/disadvantaged, ECs, GPA, MCAT, and i think that was all, there might be one more section i forget. If you are above X number value you get a secondary, for those who fall just below, all (or at least most all) apps are reviewed to make sure people dont fall through the cracks due to odd circumstances such as you got a 4.0 in 2 years of post bacc but your GPA is only 3.3 or something like that.

Yay for pity points!

my status page says "pending review" under the secondary, did anyone else have that before you got the secondary?

also can you guys post the prompt for the essays? thanks 🙂

In evaluating applicants with a variety of backgrounds and strengths the Admissions Committee assesses each applicant as to what they can contribute to their class. Please describe to the Admissions Committee what you have to offer in this regard. (1,800 characters, with spaces).

Please describe to the Admissions Committee a challenge you have overcome and what you learned about yourself from that experience. (1,800 characters, with spaces).

Good luck everyone! 🙂

lol i was thinking of u with that example koko😛. Did you get the 2ndary though? I think you did? I hope so at least.
I thought those numbers seemed familiar! I did get Irvine so I'm very happy right now, especially after hearing that they probably looked at my whole app so they know what to expect already.

I pre-wrote this one. Going to do this tonight.

I got all 5 UC secondaries....I really want to go in a UC, any of them is my dream...does this mean I have a good chance of getting into one of them...?
getting a secondary does not equate to acceptance. All that means is on paper you are probably a good applicant, but i wouldnt say it means much about chances.

got the secondary..but while i took calc in college, i used ap credit for stats..... uh oh.

as long as you take stats before matriculation you are fine. should be very easy to do. I believe other UCs and a few schools out there require stats also

I left stats out of my pre-req list. It's stupid that they're a quarter school that wants everything in semester and then wants calculus AND stats listed but only give three slots.

gosh, why do they want stats? doesn't UCLA require stats as well?

really? LAME

I am now 7/7 for screened secondaries. On one hand, I should be happy that I made it through...but on the other hand, now I have to pay for evaluation and I was hoping maybe screening would take me out of some that I have no chance at. (UCSF)

Crap, no stats taken for me. I don't think UCD does, on thier pre-req grid, it said that math OR stats to fufill the year of math required. I'm going to give Irvine a call later and ask how stict they are with this. I graduated this year so it looks like I might need to take it at my community college. great.

didn't get this secondary yet nor did I get ucla. I did get the acknowledgments weeks ago. I was verified in early June and am a ca resident. Should I be worried because irvine is one of my top choices. 🙁

i didn't see a requirement for stats taken only in college on any of the other UC secondaries... but i mean, if my school gave me credit for stats, it seems stupid to have to retake it at a community college just to satisfy the prereqs..? i called the admissions office to ask, but they said they were unsure and asked me to email... so i'm just waiting for their response now 🙁

Just so you all know,

I know someone who got rejected by Irvine last year post-secondary. When he called to ask why, he was told it was a mistake. He got an interview and will be attending there this fall.

So just make sure you stay on top of things with this one.

(they were really nice about it though. Made him love them more.)

maybe, in the MSAR it states that 1 quarter of stats is required, maybe its a mistake , i remember reading what you said on the 2ndary though. I took stats so i tend not to worry.

From the wording of the pre-requisites section it makes it sound like they want you to take biochem lab. That's not true, is it?

you know when they say be careful what you wish for?!! dammit i should not have wished for no more secondaries 2day :bang:

Is it just me or are other people having trouble with the personal comments section? I've got under 1800 characters, but it says I am over the limit.

i applied her 2 years ago and got an interview, was waitlisted, then rejected. I really liked the school, and I am excited to get a secondary this year. Hopefully things will fair a little better in the end this time.
