but ... wow... ucsf med needs some poetry classsses 😉

The "Class Play" was last night. It's a series of spoofy skits and videos that the MS2s put together 🙂

does he really have UCSF tattooed on his arm?

I didn't see this earlier, but I'm curious, how are acceptances sent out: email, snail mail, phone call?

If snail mail, is it a small thin envelope or a large packet?

Snail mail. Rejections come in small envelopes, acceptances in packets. It totally ruins the anticipation.

So, who all interviewed on 11/12?

Shemarty, I met you and didn't even realize it! My student tour-guide told us!

 what did the tour guide say???

Basically, I'm *always* at the med student lounge at 10:00am on interview days to wait for the leftover fruit and mini-muffins 🙂

hey has anyone done an appeal yet? just wondering since i wasn't sure how it works.

Shemarty - they had quite a bit to say about how helpful you have been for the class. Apparently you aren't just industrious on SDN. 🙂

I wish I had known so I could have chatted with you for a few minutes. You read my personal statement months ago and were very helpful. I am amazed by how small the world is.

Can you tell which interviewee I was? My SDN-name is a good hint!

For all the interviewees and hopefuls: UCSF is no joke. Great place, good facilities, amazing reputation, and the happiest students I've seen anywhere. Hands down.

Here's to the wait!

since you interviewed recently, did Dean Wofsy (or anyone) give a specific date when they will send out the first decisions? I know it's afer december 15th but is it before or after christmas?

The committee meets dec 20 th (~about) and decisions are sent that week. I interviewed late September

This sounds about like what I heard. We were told rejections might come a little bit faster than acceptances or waitlists, because those things are going to require approval by higher-ups.

Yep, I figured from your SDN-name that it had to be you! I hope you had a great visit to UCSF and that you liked your student host 🙂

As for decisions, I think it was after Christmas last year, but I'm not 100% sure. That info can be found earlier in this thread or on last year's UCSF thread. I'd check myself but I'm going to sleep. I was shadowing at SFGH overnight and just got home! 😀

I interview on 12/17, Do you think my interview would be included in those reviewed by committee on 12/20 or would they have an earlier cutoff. It would be amazing to only have to wait a week to get an answer.

i highly doubt you would be in that committee, from last years thread i saw that some people who interviewed in late october had to wait until the January meeting.

Shemarty, that was the funniest damn thing I've ever seen. I laughed so hard I almost peed myself. No joke. He's the Wofsy!!

Oh yeah, and it got stuck in my head. I woke up at 6 AM last week and as I was brushing my teeth, "He's the Wofsy! This is Frisco!" was running through my head. Talk about UCSF taking over your life...

when i interviewed in early nov, they told us we'd get a dec decision if we were lucky, most likely jan, and not to be surprised if it was feb, so i'd go with no on this one 😛

I don't want this thread to be stuck on page 3! Bump 🙂

shemarty, if we haven't heard a few weeks after complete, are we most likely rejected? It sounds as though turn around time for interview invites is only about 10 days whereas rejections are usually two months?

For those wondering time to be complete ~5 weeks
Secondary received 10/08
Application complete 11/16

No, you can never tell what's going on. Sometimes they review you really fast, and sometimes it can take awhile. It might depend on the person reading your file.

I know this is old news but I'm ecstatic about an interview here. Yay UCSF!

Secondary Received: 9/9
Secondary Complete: 11/4
Interview Invite: 11/16
Interview: early December

wow- it takes forever to get complete. i sent back my secondary right away (about two weeks ago), but i guess i shouldn't hold my breath for a complete anytime soon....

i want an interview here SO badly. the secondary was a surprise, but now my hopes are up. hope i'm not disappointed!!

I think you should take "complete" at UCSF to mean that you are under review by the committee. It's obviously not like they're just acknowledging they received your secondary.

Hey Shemarty...quick question for you, if I interviewed early October and wanted to get an extra letter of rec from the PI in my lab now, when would I have to get it in by for it to be looked at before they decide? I know their first committee meeting isn't till mid December, but that does that mean my app is literally not looked at until then, or is this just when they discuss what they think about it (after looking at it for months before)? Basically I'm trying to see if it's worth getting a letter in if won't get in for a few weeks. I hope that makes sense...

I think it's looked at in advance and they meet up in mid-Dec to make the final decision. Of course I can't be 100% sure since I don't have any insider info. I'd speculate maybe if you got the letter in before Dec 1st?

Unfortunately my personal experience seems to suggest that it may have some truth to it, even now. I was complete 9/28, and finally got the "Correspondence has been mailed to you" message. 🙁

Cool thanks Shemary! Btw is there any way to know who the actual members of the admissions committee are?

Not that I know of... Their names are not posted online and I don't think the office would tell you if you asked. My previous suggestion of Dec 1st is purely my personal opinion, so definitely take that w/ a grain of salt.

Ok, I just watched the vid. It was painful.

Unfortunately, Dean Wofsy wasn't there to talk with us when I interviewed.

Oh god, I want to go to UCSF so badly... it and Stanford are my top choices by far, but I think I have a better shot at growing wings and flying >_<

Got my 2ndary Oct 26th, turned it right in, have been waiting ever since....!

Does anyone know how UCSF prefers updates (email, snail mail)? I have a publication to be submitted in a month or two, and I wanted to get it in my file before the committee meets.

I think generally you only update about publications once they are "in review" or "accepted." At least that's what I've always heard.

COMPLETE AT LAST. Secondary submitted 10/7, complete 11/18.

how long do i have to wait now?? it says 8 weeks but i've read that if they dont' get back to me in a few weeks it doesn't look good...

Snail mail is what I was told by the admissions office.

Complete 10/16, still no word. Looks like those complete around my timeframe are getting the rejections- did you guys get the letter before your statuses changed?

Since my secondary I have a new research job, a new pub, and a new rec letter, all from UCSF. Probably too late for an update letter but I plan on appealing.

I got my interview within a day or two after being complete, if that helps. I hope you do too! It's a great place.
