Received the envelope yesterday. Interviewed second week of December and live in Bay Area.

Good luck to everyone who is waiting!

congratulations to acceptances! I live in the bay area but I'm in new york right now. I messaged one of my roommates if he had seen anything from ucsf and he just said "don't think I've seen it." Does that mean he looked through the mail and it wasn't there or he just didn't look through the mail!? ahhhh 🙁

Can someone link me to a thread on what to expect at the UCSF interview? i can't seem to find it with a search...

thanks!! good luck to you all 🙂

Did your status change?

Just got home to find the big envelope waiting for me under my door! Postmarked 1/30. This is my first acceptance and I am VERY happy. Good luck everyone outside the bay area, probably going to be a pile of acceptances tomorrow 🙂.

So that means some people got the mail the date it was postmarked? Wow. I'm about an hour away from the city, so I guess there might be some hope that it didn't get to me on that same day? Well see.....

so i live in socal and am anxiously waiting for a decision letter! ahhh :luck:

congrats MCATBear!

for people out east, mail should take another 2-3 business days. (at least that's how long my stanford waitlist letter took to get to nyc....🙁) so i'm assuming the projected arrival window for us east coast folk is tuesday through thursday, if we're lucky enough to get mail! :xf:

EDIT: My bad! I'm confused Priority Mail and First Class mail. First Class mail does indeed take 3 days to ship across the country.

Anybody else get anything?

I don't think so! UCSF's acceptance letter was sent First Class.

I think First Class is pretty much just any letter you put a stamp on and drop in the mailbox. EDIT: Your edit beat my edit. 😀

First class mail takes 1-3 days, so since yesterday wasn't a mail day, today is one full day since the postmark (1/30).

If you live in CA but not the Bay, your mail will probably be delivered by tomorrow. If you're somewhere out East, probably Wed.

What a deceiving name... First Class sounds important to me, but I guess not. Anyway, good luck to all those of you waiting! :luck:

First Class is important....just not as important as Priority...or the most important of them all: Express! I sometimes wish there was a "should have been there yesterday" shipping method...

OOS acceptance here (from the cold middle-north) today! Am out of town on another interview, so I don't know the mechanism of shipment. My roommate read it to me!

Well, that throws a kink in the theory. Congrats anyway! 👍

Maybe you live right by a big USPS air shipping/receiving place. (Or at least the rest of us hope so.)

do you happen to know when your letter was postmarked?

I hope so too. congratulations btw!

I wish I could tell you, but I was driving in poor reception when I got the call, and asking the postmark date wasn't on my mind. I'll let you know as soon as I find out!:xf:

For mail-theorists out there, I am in Ithaca, NY. About as far+remote from San Fran as possible I would think.

Yep, I have no idea now. We'll see what happens tomorrow. I think there will be some news, because it's a little bit surprising that no other IS people heard anything today.

Congrats to all the people accepted. Wish you the best luck rest of the way.

Has any one who is rececntly accepted got their status changed?

I live in Northern California and nothing yet. Hoping tomorrow will a good day (fingers crossed).

No problem..I am in San Francisco, CA

is it just me or is this ucsf wait kind of getting frustrating? they said they'd tell us as soon as a decision was made... how could they have not made a decision after 4 months?

yeah, every time people post on this thread that they got a decision letter, that day becomes hella stressful as i wait to see my mail... so the past 4 days have been pretty horrible...

i know how you feel ... this loong wait is so frustrating!

yeah, the last few days have been awful. ucsf would be better off just sending all the decisions at once. i interviewed in mid-october and haven't heard anything, which i am guessing does not translate into good news...arg.

Yeah, a bunch of us are in that situation. According to UCSF, timing has no bearing on your status. Hard to believe maybe, but that's what they say. We'll just have to wait and see. When were you guys told that you would hear something?

Most likely this batch...but no mail...sadness...

maybe more good mail will come tomorrow? please?

i interviewed 10/20 and i called to ask if they mailed anything out to me. they said they havent yet. i expected to hear back before Christmas lol. the best thing for me is to just chill out. if its true that timing means nothing, then i can be happy for a while. its so hard not fantasize about grad school in sf though.

hey for those of you who interviewed early but are still waiting for a decision, do you guys think it might be likely that one of our interviewers did not make it to both the Dec and Jan meetings?

Its totally possible that your interviewers haven't been able to make it to the meetings yet. Once they've discussed you at the committee meeting, they'll send you something one way or the other.

if we have faith in the system, it means that our interviewers couldn't make it to those meetings... which puts us back at square one (indefinite waiting). well, thats a lot better than "we were reviewed and weren't deemed good enough for an immediate acceptance." i've been thinking the latter for the past couple days, which is a lot of *sigh*, but now i'll just breathe and stop thinking about this

Unfortunately, I think we haven't been deemed good enough for an immediate acceptance. I interviewed at the end of September and haven't heard a peep. My friend had the same faculty interviewer that I did on the same day and received the high priority letter two weeks ago. From the people that have posted so far on this thread and people that I know personally who have been accepted, they all have superb stats and are very well qualified applicants (duh).

My theory is that SF is notifying the top ranked people that will obviously be accepted right away. Some are obvious waitlists. My guess is that the rest of us are either rejected or in some pile that is in between the acceptances and the waitlists. Maybe they're waiting until all the interviewers are done before they make a decision? And perhaps a smaller minority just haven't been reviewed yet. I think this makes the most sense given the relative small number of acceptances that people have posted so far and that people that were immediately accepted, seem to have dates as late as mid december...the good news is that when it's all said and done, SF still accepts about 50% of its interviewees, so I think a lot of us that even have to spend time on the waitlist will eventually hear good news. Good luck everyone! 🙂

I don't know if the other stuff is true, but i don't agree with the superb stats theory (that those accepted have superb stats). My interviewer told me on interview day, that once you receive an interview stats don't matter any more. and to prove it, i got accepted with pretty low stats.
