im still hoping for an invite 🙁 complete just a week ago, and it wasnt cuz i applied late, my amcas was sent early july, just took them foreverrrr to get me a secondary 🙁 hope they have a few left!~

I don't know if the other stuff is true, but i don't agree with the superb stats theory (that those accepted have superb stats). My interviewer told me on interview day, that once you receive an interview stats don't matter any more. and to prove it, i got accepted with pretty low stats.

That pretty much is the exact opposite of what Dr. Wofsy told our group. He said there were people on the AdCom who are not so focused on numbers (like your interviewer probably), but others that are. UCSF is not a school that treats everyone as equals after the interview. They will still look at the entirety of your application with the interview as just another piece of your application, GPA/MCAT included.

btw, how 'low' are your stats?

I agree with us being somewhere between waitlist and acceptance...that would be a good sign, so when May comes around, we will be at the top of the list...

I don't like announcing my stats, i just mentioned it so that other people like me out there do not get discouraged.

lets just say, my GPA is decent but my MCAT score is much lower than what the typical SDNer whines about being a low score. I would probably be laughed out of this thread as a troll if i said it.

I remember hearing this also. He also said, though, that the fact that you have an interview means they think highly of you and know you are capable and qualified.

Does HPL (This is what I have)= rejection? 🙁. I got the notification some time ago, but was too sad to post it. It doesnt seem like anyone's gotten a rejection yet. I think the interview is really important at UCSF--My GPA/MCAT is fairly high. I feel like i didn't do that great the interview, not that i didn't care nor i thought i was going to get in simply bcos of my numbers, but i think the open file interview really worked against me because i did not have a clear direction to my responses.

If you look back a few pages (as well as the UCSF '13 thread), you'll see that HPL is exactly what it sounds like- a waitlist. Many students have gotten off of this list in the past, so it's definitely not a rejection. Also, from what I know, UCSF exclusively conducts closed file interviews and not open file ones.

Like I said, not just stats, but also a very well qualified applicant. Of course we are all qualified, but I'm just saying that the one's accepted right away are very well qualified (awesome extra curr, letters, statement, etc) and likely destroyed their interviews.....could be totally wrong though. Seems odd that so few on SDN seem to have been notified of their status if a decision is made on everyone when their application is reviewed.

haha, yes, i meant closed, not open. sorry.

does any recent interviewees know when is the next meeting and time for the next batch of letters?

hey for those of you who interviewed early but are still waiting for a decision, do you guys think it might be likely that one of our interviewers did not make it to both the Dec and Jan meetings?

There's a letter inside your interview folder that says decisions are made around the 20th of each month. I'd guess then that we have 2-3 weeks before another batch of letters arrives.

i dunno about that...if you notice last year's thread, there were some decisions being given out between feb 9th and feb 11th (both HPL and acceptances)

that corresponds with what the admissions lady told me about letters being sent out over the next couple of weeks

Not trying to get anyones hopws up, but based on last years thread, february and march were very fluid with decisions.
2/9/09-HPL and Acceptances
2/21/09- HPL
2/27/09- Acceptances (Some movement from the HPL)
3/16/09-HPL
3/27/09- Acceptances

They may not follow suit this year, but I have a feeling news will be coming more frequently these next couple months. Good luck everyone!

yeah from the bay (SF) dude
kind of expected it after I didn't get a letter on Monday

oh well, last year first movement off the WL was in early march...here's to hoping 🙂

Are there any more interview invites given out at this time? 😕

Hey, I just called regarding interviews since I'm appealing my post-secondary rejection. The last day will be the 25th this month. Can't imagine they have all that many left... 🙁

The 25th is the last day of interviews or the last day they'll give them out? I thought tey interviewed until April?

This feels like dodgeball...how long can the rest of us stay up?

for anyone receiving any kind of notification today or in the upcoming weeks please post the time you interview for the rest of us waiters thank youuu and good luck all :luck:

Feb 25th is the last day of interviews, I think.

yeahhh, is that the last day they give them out or...?

Bay Area person here. Interviewed late Nov. HPL today (dated 2/3). I'm actually really excited about the HPL. This gives me an opportunity to write a letter of intent and send another strong letter of rec.

So, now for the questions!

Does the HPL move before April? Are HPL people discussed at subsequent meetings (meaning should I get my LOR and LOI in ASAP)? Didn't Wofsy say that half the class comes off of the HPL (when it's all said and done)?

Any thoughts on strategy? I never thought I'd make it this far with UCSF! 😍

Are you in the Bay?

It seems like they're either meeting more frequently than once/month or sending the letters out in waves.

I actually think these are the January HPLs. They've usually sent acceptances and HPLs soon after, and they've told us that they send letters around the 20th.

So far this cycle:

December meeting: acceptances on the Dec 24th, HPLs in early January
January meeting: acceptances on Jan 23rd, HPLs in early February

are you sure about that? i thought there were HPL's right before the January acceptances. and there were HPL's in between acceptances in January... it seems like they might not be following a set schedule

HPL here as well, I'm actually happy too since I've heard SF does straight rejections post-interview right? Here's to a VERY long year! 🙂

Edited: Interviewed 10/6

would you mind sharing approximately when you interviewed? thanks and hope you hear good news from them soon 🙂

They might just be cleaning stuff out..."woops, I thought we already HPL this mofo, my bad...let's send the letter" I mean, they are at the end of the interview season, they're probably wrapping it up...

Yeah, SDNers reported HPLs in late January before the acceptances.

I think everyone gets either accepted or HPLed, and than from the HPL you can either get accepted, WLed, or rejected.

HPL is such diplomatic phrasing then.. I would consider it standing for "Hold on, please" instead of High Priority List. It should be the opposite- that if they don't accept you off the bat, they WL you, and then divide that into HPL and rejections.

Yeah, this is how it works at Penn once they make their decisions in March. They break you down into WL tiers and there are likelihoods of acceptances associated with each tier. I'm not sure how "HPL" fits into the whole scheme of things, particularly when you look at the many interviewees that haven't heard anything at all despite an October interview! What does that mean? Rejection? I'm skeptical they reject anyone, at least outright by letter. I haven't seen anything in past threads indicating they do that.

Also, for those with HPL, did it request your fall grades as well?

Yup..I did..just got the letter..HPLed..Don't like the name..It's misleading..It's just a waitlist

Empty mail box. Looks like I dodged an HPL bullet. So funny how last week i would have done anything for there to be a ucsf letter to be in the mail. And now all i want is for the mail to be empty lol.

a friend who interviewed last week was told that the committee met on 2/2...wonder if letters will go out before the end of the month?

The question is if these recent HPLs are leftovers from the Jan meeting, or are from the feb meeting. Ahhhh I need to stop trying to speculate and just wait till the letter comes. None the less, thanks for the info KitDG!

I remember them saying after the committee meets the decisions go to the board who will then review and give the final decisions to the dean to review before sending them out so i guess this whole thing goes till the 20th!! anyway im crossing my fingers for a big envelop after the 20th! plz plz plz UCSF you will not be disappointed 😍

Pulling hairs over the "behind the scene" details doesn't really change anything. HPL is not the waitlist, the one starting in May where one acceptance is granted after each withdrawal. HPLers will be reviewed again sometime in March/April and many will be accepted then. Being on hold is not pleasant, but the school is being conservative and trying to avoid overbooking the class.

I was put on hpl today. letter was written on feb 3rd. I live in socal and interviewed in mid november. hope this helps.

So it looks like these recent HPLs are from the 2/2 meeting. We could see some acceptances next week, then.

just curious Ariodant...
are people also directly rejected initially or are all people not accepted put into the HPL initially?
