Maybe...one day doesn't seem like enough for the committee's decision to go to the Dean for review though. I hope I get an acceptance next week though : ) I'm 99% sure that I was reviewed on 2/2.

Maybe its only the final decisions like acceptances and rejections(although we haven't seen any of those yet) that have to go through the dean for review. Since HPL is like a hold, maybe he doesnt have to look at those.

You know, that would explain why the acceptances come out a few days after the HPLs. 👍

just curious Ariodant...
are people also directly rejected initially or are all people not accepted put into the HPL initially?

People are rejected initially, but you probably need a combination of bad stats and terrible interview to get that.

I would bet that no post-interview rejections have gone out yet.

I would bet that no post-interview rejections have gone out yet.

At the interview Dean Wolfsy said that interviewees get one of three letters: acceptance, HPL, or waitlist. Sounded to me like they don't necessarily do flat out rejections.

So HPL and waitlist are different things? I thought they meant the same thing...at the interview I heard that one would either be accepted, waitlisted, or rejected post-interview but did not see any post-interview rejections on last year's thread or this one so far. Only acceptances or HPL as some other people have already pointed out. Wish the admissions office would just come out and tell us what's really going on so that all this confusion/speculation could be resolved 🙁

I was also wondering if anyone had heard back from the PRIME program yet?

HPL ultimately turns into a waitlist or rejection. No one on here has reported a PRIME acceptance yet.

EDIT: Last March/April, someone reported getting accepted off of the HPL... so maybe if they don't accept you off of the HPL before some date, then they either waitlist or reject.

Has anyone even received notification for an interview yet because I thought there had to be some interviewing process for that as well? Any info would be helpful. Thanks! 🙂

Funny that you say this since this is the only interview I attended where they spent almost 1 hour explaining what happens after interviews. So is the problem them or us?

👍

and maybe both is what i'd say...by this time next year maybe we'll all look back and just laugh at how neurotic we were 😀

He said that HPL was essentially what at other schools is called a deferral or hold - a by product of the rolling admissions process. They want to save spots for later interviewees and not fill the entire class at once, so they wait to make a final decision on some files until later when they have more people to compare them to.

Edit to add: I went to the interview this past week, and the explanation of the review was very lengthy and detailed, so I remember this clearly.

Edit to add again: He also said that since it's late in the season, people on my interview day are unlikely to be given an HPL status are are probably just going to be notified of an acceptance or waitlisting.

Heya, yep, I received an invitation to interview for PRIME by phone about a week or so ago. So, roughly 1 month and change post-acceptance. Dates start in late February. They didn't say so explicitly, but it looks like they are doing interviews post-acceptance or are just on a much later schedule than anticipated.

Ohh...thanks for the info everyone 🙂

For my friend-- anyone get an invite lately? Is it confirmed that interviews end feb 23rdish and does anyone know where they are with filling up dates?

For myself-- anyone get any post interview news today? I feel like it's been very cali-centric in terms of news

thanks 🙂

I got an invite on 1/24 and the available dates were through the end of feb, as you said. I wasn't able to select one in March, but I don't know if that means there aren't any or not.

As for filling up, once I selected my date I couldn't see the open slots any longer, so I have no idea.

BTW, a Q about update letters. I already sent a pre-interview update--should I bring another one to the interview? I have one extra thing to add, but maybe I'll just bring it up in the interview. Anyway, the website says not to bring any supplemental documents so maybe not...

In your interview folder, there will be a green sheet you can fill out to update your app. They'll explain it all at the interview.

Hey guys,

This is like my first time posting and probably my last.

I am really anti-SDN because people post outrageous stats on here or how they got accepted to 203 schools and it makes the rest of us average / below-average applicants feel like sh** - this is why I have never posted on here.

With that said, I am posting here because I know this information will be helpful for other people who are waiting to hear back figure out maybe when they will hear.

I live in Southern California (Orange County) and I interviewed at SF on Dec. 1. I received an acceptance today 2/9/10. The letter was sent 1/28/10 and postmarked 1/30/10. It was sent through first class mail.

I don't have words for how excited I am. I just wanted to wish good luck to those out there who haven't heard yet or are on the HPL - hopefully y'all will hear some great news soon. To those who were accepted, congrats and great job!

Wow congrats!
I wonder what took so long for the mail to get to you. Did it really just come today?

None the less, congrats!

Thanks for the info man. Congrats. 👍

Sorry about that dude...is this the first post-interview reject?? I thought only HPLs were coming out...

How many of us oct-nov people without any news is still out there...? WTH is going on man...? In the immortal words of Dr. Evil, "Throw me a freaking bone here"

No worries guys. I really feel like a post interview rejections means I didn't fit.

Looks like teenmachinery got one also today (look a few posts up). Other than that we're probably the first.

mid-Nov interview here...waiting waiting waiting...i don't think it means anything, hang in there

Oh, OK. So I'm the only one rejected post-interview so far. I guess that's special in and of itself.

Wow...it sounded like they did not do those. Maybe I misheard at the interview.

Edit: Were you HPLd first? Maybe they are making some of those decisions.

a guy at UCSF (ariodant) said they do immediate post-interview rejections

most likely we haven't heard about post interview rejections b/c ppl are more likely to post acceptances/HPL

This seems to be a new thing though. In last years thread, not one person posted a post interview rejection (before HPL movement that is).

I wonder what that means for those on the HPL then? If there were in fact no rejections last year, then this year, to fill the class, either more are getting outright accepted, or more people will be getting of the HPL. 😕 Let's hope it's the latter

Actually there was a post-interview rejection last year.

Posted 3/16/09. Looks like this might have been the only one though.

I'm willing to bet there have been several post-interview rejections... it's just that no one is posting them. A friend of mine got one a few days ago.

sigh...because writing it is infinitely more painful that just thinking of it. besides, small population of applicants post on here.

WTF!!! i'm going nuts!!

for the past month and half, i've been compulsively checking my mailbox and looking at this thread. interviewed early nov, OOS. 2 min ago i checked my status page and it says this:

Correspondence has been mailed to you regarding your application to the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine and should have reached you by now. If you have not received it, you may call the Admissions Office. Please note that we are unable to discuss status information over the phone.

i thought this message is posted +/- 2 weeks after they mail your stuff out. i have not received any mail.

definitely will call them up in a few hours when the left coast wakes up.... but they probably won't tell me the status over the phone. ahhh

what is the meaning of this!!???!!!!!!!!!!!! what happened to my mail?? i do live in nyc and our land lady does not put a lock on the box - it's outside the building.... but wouldn't you steal credit card info, not med school correspondence?

ah! what's going on?

That is rough Green Onions! Good luck!! 🙂
