Haha EXACTLY how I have been thinking for the last 3 months!

Have any of y'all seen their match list online? I can't find it.

Based on March acceptances in last year's thread, and the pattern posted just above from February, it sounds like HPLs/Waitlists/Rejections go out earlier in the month than acceptances. I for one am willing to wait until April if it means that acceptances are some of the last letters to be mailed. 🙂:xf:

Thanks for posting, Ariodant!
Can you please explain the difference between 'Internal Medicine' and 'Internal Medicine-Primary Care' under the PRIMARY CARE category and 'Internal Medicine-Preliminary' under the SPECIALTY category? 😕
Where does UCSF's Categorical Track Internal Medicine program count?

Some specialties require a "preliminary year" in internal medicine, for example anesthesia. So when you match for anesthesia, you can do your prelim year at the same hospital or at another as your anesthesia residency. Some hospitals will take people for just a prelim year, others will not. For example someone matches at UCSF for anesthesia but not for the prelim year - she has to do her first year at some other hospital. Or someone matches at UCSF for both prelim and anesthesia. These people don't do any anesthesia AT ALL during the prelim year, their itnern year is identical to that of the "regular" IM residents. I know this because my old roommate matched in anesthesia.

I think the purpose of the prelim year is to give docs who will specialize a strong foundation in medicine.

I don't know the difference between IM and IM -primary care. I would guess IM people are those who hope to do fellowships in other stuff, like GI, whereas IM-primary care are those who don't plan to further specialize.

Hi OneMCATAway, I was HPL'ed in Feb and still waiting. Have you heard back from UCSF yet?

i'm still waiting.. keep your fingers crossed for me :xf: i hope your HPL turns into an acceptance soon :luck:

on another note, i dreamt that my friend (who is an old high school friend that I doubt has her bachelors degree yet) got into UCSF.. dont know what to get outa that but apparently in my dream i still had an empty mailbox :annoyed: 😛

I hope next week brings some good news for everyone :luck::luck::luck:

@premedoenophile- 👍 Thanks!

does anyone know where we can find where exactly people matched for the specialty they matched for?

also, does anyone know if JMP has its own second look? or can the JMP only students go to the normal UCSF one?

... must ... get ... decisions ... soon ... ajds***grrrk

im starting to get reeeeeaaaaaally scared.. just went through last years thread and it seems like they got a bunch of hpl's 3/16&17 then again on 3/19&20 which means i shouldnt look forward to any mail from ucsf in the next week?! :scared::scared: then again they had a bunch of acceptances on 3/3 so maybe this year everything is done backwards.. i keep imagining getting in and how excited i would be!!😍

new plan: im not checking my mail until i check sdn first so at least i know what im expecting 😏

please dont let me down UCSF :xf::luck:

I wish we knew if every person was HPL'ed or if there are a chunk of ppl getting rejected. Anybody know this? Do you think they'll actually get to the HPL's next month?

One person has posted a rejection post interview, and I have seen a couple on mdapps, so it is definitely happening. I just don't know if its actually a 1/3 Accepted, 1/3 HPL, 1/3 Rejected distribution.

Hopefully some big envelopes come out this week.

I am not sure if i remember correctly, but I thought a couple of people on here also received an "alternates' list." maybe it's 1/3 accepted, 1/3 HPL, 1/3 rejected/alternate list???

Of the 1/3 who are placed on the HPL, some will be accepted, placed on the AL, or rejected. I don't know the ratios.

Hi Does anyone know when the deadline to submit the documents for financial aid is?? A little hard to be on top of this.. when I don't know if I am accepted what or not....

And what's the address? 🙂
Thanks!

If i understood correctly, you only need to complete the FAFSA and the other online application for you financial aid to be calculated. The actual documents will not be needed to calculate but will be needed before you matirculate (get the actual cash).

March 20th is so close I am guessing the next batch of something would be out starting tomorrow :luck:

Sounds about right, they were postmarked the 18th last month. Looks like they like to send out towards the end of the week. So tired of waiting.

At least I will be at the San Jose NCAA regional tomorrow. Get to watch bball all day. That will take my mind off things. To bad my Bears are playing all the way in florida.

Conversation with my dad on the phone an hour ago:

Dad: You got a letter.
Me: Whats it say?!?!?!?
Dad: We regret to inform you.... blah blah blah. . . .
Me: (thinking oh s***)
Dad: . . . and its from Columbia. (Begins to hysterically laugh knowing I expected my Columbia rejection any day)
Me: You a**hole! (accidently blurted it out)

Dang I was scared for a minute. Still no mail from UCSF. Still waiting. I forget what its like to not be frantically checking and worrying about my email and mail all day.

I received the same letter from Columbia. I hope you and OneMCAT hear some good news from UCSF soon...it's about time!

yup! silence it is.. im taking tomorrow off it better be the day come on UCSF 😍

Thanks Kiwi 🙂 So are you pretty much set on SF? Or are you waiting for financial aid options at other schools?

I think I'm pretty set on SF, yes. It's been my dream school for such a long time that I can't really imagine not seizing this opportunity to attend.

I didn't realize that you are on the HPL -- hope you get off of it soon. It seems like you all should be getting news in the next few days. (Some people on the HPL heard back in March last year, right?) Hopefully the wait is almost over.

Yeah I don't usually get mail until 3-5 ish. I'm sure OneMCAT and I will keep you posted.

does anyone know the time range when people were accepted off HPL? as in, some people heard in march, most people heard in __, and it was basically over in __? sorry if this was covered before..

i remember them saying during my interview that about 50% of interviewees are accepted, so what are the odds for us poor souls still on HPL? has anyone ever been HPLed, waitlisted, and THEN accepted? lol 😳

my understanding is the majority of people who are accepted off the hpl are first hpled, then waitlisted, then accepted. as far as acceptance straight off the hpl, last year i think a few people heard in march and the rest heard in april. if you didn't get an acceptance by then, you either got wl or rejected. from the wl, most people got off late late may and throughout june. once you hit about july, your chances look slim (though there are always a couple more).

So. Cal here-- my mail has come without news from UCSF. Interviewed first week of Jan.

yep! just waiting for 2pm :scared::scared:

Dang that sucks! I was just gonna post that we might be setting ourselves up for disappointment. I mean was there a reason other than it being near the 20th that we should have expected something today? lol

I kinda want to call and ask when they might mail stuff out, but the admissions injected fear into my soul about calling about decisions.

i know what you mean! i keep setting myself up and getting my hopes high! just gonna check the mail with no expectation in a couple min :luck:

i keep envisioning myself screaming and getting all excited with a big envelop grrrrr if that doesn't happen or if i get rejected it will really suck 🙁

i agree do it calbear.. anonymously 😉

Haha on my interview day, I was waiting in the admissions office when someone called about the December round of decisions. The guy made it clear not to call about decisions to whoever called and then asked for thier AMCAS ID and name. . . I'm thinking I'll just test my patience.
