Anyone remember the guy's name in the front office? I thought he was really nice and helpful.

I don't remember his name. He was awesome to me and the other interviewees. He didn't get nasty at all with the person on the phone, but just sternly made it clear that they don't give info about the decision after interview.

I seriously almost keeled over when I saw it. I was expecting nothing from them!

Good luck OneMCAT! You only have to wait one more meeting, I know it. Remember I interviewed in Dec, so you just might need to wait longer. Good luck everyone!!!!!

Congratulations! It often takes 2-3 days for mail to reach SoCal from NorCal, so I am still hoping to hear a decision soon...

congrats!!!!!!!!!!!! did you end up getting the financial aid letter along with your acceptance? i try not to, but i'm still trying to figure out whether the fact that i never got one means anything!

USPS. Letter and post mark dated 3/18. Financial info came with it in a separate letter.

Also for all of you who are stalking this thread now or in the future DO NOT GIVE UP HOPE! ITS NEVER OVER TILL ITS OVER.

UCSF received my primary 7/7. I was not given a secondary until 9/25, was not given an interview till 11/24, and not accepted until now!

If you look at the beginning of this thread, I was 100% sure I wasn't getting a secondary.

Not to sound cheezy but, dreams come true. I swear.

Do you live in NorCal? I assume if it's "bear" you went / are going to Berkeley?

Yes. I live in the East Bay, about 1 hour from the city. Hang tight, I think one more day would make sense for So-Cal

I was not HPLed first. Though it did take nearly 3 months for them to make a decision.

my understanding is the majority of people who are accepted off the hpl are first hpled, then waitlisted, then accepted. as far as acceptance straight off the hpl, last year i think a few people heard in march and the rest heard in april. if you didn't get an acceptance by then, you either got wl or rejected. from the wl, most people got off late late may and throughout june. once you hit about july, your chances look slim (though there are always a couple more).

thanks! that was really helpful. wow, i guess the process is a loooooot more drawn out than i thought 🙁 do you know what % of the HPL is eventually admitted?

Girlfriend says there's a large envelope waiting for me at home. Crossing fingers.
 
Accepted of the HPL list. ecstatic... now I can't decide between UCSF and UCLA... both are great schools and my two top choices
 
Rejection received today in Connecticut. Interviewed on 2/2. Kinda shocked - was hoping for at least a waitlist after being invited to interview after appealing my first rejection! Oh well, it was a nice trip. Enjoy UCSF, all!
 
Congrats dermda and chicken!!! Did you get the notification in the mail? Out of curiosity did you guys send update letters/letters of intents before?

to answer some q's:
i interviewed november, hpl was postmarked 2/3 (i received it later...but that's with my post office....), acceptance yesterday, 3/19.

acceptance was via large envelope. didn't get financial aid letter when most people reported getting it, but like calbear, it came yesterday in a thin, small envelope separately yesterday.

no correspondence with the admissions office since my interview. i was actually in the process of drafting a letter of interest at work yesterday!

Aaaaaaaaaah I'm in! Haha! Big envelope waiting for me when I got home from work today. Interviewed 1/14 post marked 3/18. I live in Philly!!! One of the best days EVER! I'm ecstatic!!!!!!

I sent in an update / LOI in December and was placed the HPL list in Feb
 
Hey all I have a question about Second Look Weekend. It is referring to the URM event on April 30th. Did everyone get the letter on light purple paper with the mention of the URM event, or was it only sent to those invited? I am just wondering if I am invited or not. I know for a couple other schools I applied to I was considered URM, but not sure about UCSF.

does anyone know if LOIs really help with UCSF? considering they didn't want thank you letters, i wasn't really sure if it would make a big difference?

I've read in past threads that Dean Wofsy said that they like to see continued interest in the school, but as far as how much it affects decisions, I don't think people know for sure. Many applicants get off the HPL/AL without sending in a thing (like a few posters above), and others send in multiple letters of intent/updates/etc. and end up not getting in.
 
Can any current students talk about the financial aid at UCSF? Are there merit scholarships (Regents?) available or is everything need-based?

my reasoning is that if you have something to say then send it in--it might help or at the least, have no effect. most likely, however, the decision will be based on what the adcom already has, eg. AMCAS, recommendations, interviews.

I think 4 people get Regents (totally not sure about this, though), but I don't know how much money that is. As far as I know, the rest of the finaid is need-based. Or maybe it just means I didn't qualify for anything merit-based. 😕 There's definitely nothing merit-based that you can apply for.
 
Hey guys, I figure since I stalked this site for months now, I might as well contribute.

Secondary Received: 9/29
Interview Invite: 11/30
Interviewed: 1/14
HPL: 2/18
Financial Aid Letter: 3/06

I had an interview in So Cal this past Thursday so I haven't checked my mail back home in SF since Tuesday of last week. I think my housemates would have called me if there was a big envelope for me. I figure there is either a small envelope waiting for me, or nothing at all. Hoping for the latter. I'll keep you updated.

exactly what i was thinking!!! but it would be worst if we hear earlier in a thin envelop!! i hope this wait ends soon but only with a happy ending :luck::xf::luck:
