empty mailbox here, I hope with time the letters keep getting better :xf::luck:

aaand another 24 hours of waiting..

I received my HPL letter on Jan 19.

I too was HPL'ed on Jan 19. No mail today in the bay, but I expect it to come tomorrow. With my luck, I just can't expect an acceptance any time soon. Anyone know from previous years if rejections from the HPL come in waves?

I really hope not! do you live in SF? we'll see what happens tomorrow, its time for some acceptances! come on UCSF 😍

I was HPL'd in February, and just received a letter placing me on the alternate list... When I found the small envelope in my mailbox I expected the worst.
FYI I live in the bay area and the letter was postmarked 4/21.

same.

I was put on the HPL in February. I am a bit confused at this point. I dont understand how you go from the HPL to the waitlist. I thought when you complete your interview you are then either rejected, accepted, put on HPL, or put on waitlist.

I guess my question is what are the possible outcomes for people that are put on the HPL in mid-Feb and what do they mean? I thought your status does not change until after May 15th when they start processing the waitlists? any help is very much appreciated. thanks

Everyone on HPL should hear something by the end of April, and so will everybody who has interviewed at UCSF this cycle. After that everyone is either accepted, rejected, or waitlisted. It is the waitlist that starts moving after May 15th. So the HPL is kind of a hold 🙂

Oh! I thought the HPL was "better" than the waitlist for some reason LOL. So I should find out within the next couple days if im accepted, rejected or waitlisted?

was anyone able to get straight on the waitlist after the interview or was everyone on the HPL before the waitlist?

If i remember correctly there were a couple people who were waitlisted without being on HPL, and some that have already been accepted post HPL so thats the positive side of it.. Hopefully there will be more acceptances by the end of this month! I am really hoping and praying for UCSF :xf::luck:

good luck!! keep us posted 🙂

i will, are all the envelopes (waitlist, rejection, acceptance) the same?

just checked my mail. i got placed on the alternate list which is the waitlist I am assuming?

what are our chances here. how many people get placed on the alternate list and how many people are usually accepted off of it? thanks OneMCAtaway and everyone else for your inputs

im no expert but it seems like there is still a good chance almost 50% to get in from the waitlist (that might include the HPL's too)

expecting my mail to arrive tomorrow unless there is either going to be another batch or better news :xf::luck:

sounds good! i guess its up to us to wait now - worst part of this process is waiting

sorry, i'm out of the loop--why does everyone ask when someone got put on the HPL? do the people who were put on earlier hear back earlier?

How cold does it get on beach??? Should we be packing pretty warm stuff? Any other OOS coming?!

Yea, I'm going to send out an email soon w/ a flyer 🙂

Wear sneakers and warm layers.

I live about 40 minutes south of SF. Seems like we would have received AL letters if they were postmarked 4/21. I don't want to speak too soon, but let's hope this trend of letters continues to the next category 😀

Good luck!

my al letter was postmarked 4/22 -- seems like they're coming in batches. but hopefully you do get better news!

AL postmarked 4/22, no percentile ranks i guess? im really happy, a longer waiting game which sucks but after a whole year of this i guess I'm "learning" to have patience.

I have a question, it says the list is active until sept. 8th when classes start... if i fly out and start classes somewhere in aug. am i still eligible to be pulled from the waitlist?

No, AAMC traffic rules say that you can only stay on waitlists until matriculation day, because otherwise the school you leave after it begins will be unable to fill your spot and so that's unfair to them.

Thanks for the clarification! I thought i heard about some rule like that but i couldn't remember what it said exactly. Come on UCSF! :xf::xf::xf:

Right. I think that the assumption is that they're working their way forward, considering the people who were HPLed earlier, then considering those who were interviewed / HPLed later.

It's well possible that they just shove everything in the same pile and consider it at the same time.

Exactly. Has anyone who interviewed in the spring and placed on the HPL received a decision letter of any kind - rejection or alternate list?

I received my alternate list letter (dated 4/21 and postmarked 4/22) and I'm pretty happy (a little disappointed but mostly happy). Based on last year's thread, where no one was accepted from the HPL in April, I assumed that alternate list was the best possible action at this point. Who knows if this is true. And like someone said, UCSF has LOTS of waitlist movement and I certainly am keeping up hope!

I interviewed 11/23; HPL 2/20; alternate list 4/22.

I interviewed in October, was part of the first group who got placed on the HPL, and I still have yet to receive any kind of decision letter.

But from the last two years, I think only one poster got accepted in April, so yeah, AL seems to be best thing right now.

I also interviewed in Oct and have not received anything yet (HPL'd Jan or Feb...). It would be nice to get an acceptance before mid-late may.

Yeah, I interviewed in late January, HPL in late March. I'm assuming I'm on the bottom of the pile for consideration.

I've stop trying to decipher the Gordian knot which is med school admissions.

Same...a bit late on posting since I just got back from San Diego so couldn't check my mail until just earlier...wonder how many of us are on the alternate list?

Next week is the last week of April, hope it all ends well for us waiters :xf::luck:

It feels like everyone on the HPL has recieved their updated status except us. Honestly, I feel rather uneasy about it. I wonder if we'll find anything out in the next few days.

Just received an alternate list notice here in SF.

Man, I was so expecting a rejection!

So just for clarification, UCSF has a fair amount of movement from the AL. When did people last year start hearing if they got off the AL? I'm assuming sometime around Mid-May.

Ahh med school admissions, you truly believe that patience is a virtue.

Oh and for timeline: interviewed late Jan, HPLed in late March, now AL in late April.

I live in the east bay and am also waiting for some sort of update. I was HPLed in early march, after a later January interview.

i haven't heard yet either. I interviewed in December and was HPLed late February. I live in Oakland, a little nervous now

Hey, don't be too nervous! I've heard from several sources that ~50% of those on the alternate get off, and that 50/50 probability is about the same we faced going into the interview. Alternate list is a decent place to be at this point.

Just got put on the alternate list today. Letter postmarked 4/23. Im in Los Angeles.

Interviewed in Oct, HPL in Jan.

I'm in SF, about 15 blocks away from the school, and have a nice and early delivery guy.

Best of luck dude.

Oh, and the letter was postmarked on 4/24.

wow, it seems like there's a letter postmarked every day! they must just be rolling through the hpl and sending as they go! good luck to you all! :luck:

also just wanted to throw out there that fin aid packages are out and i am very, very happy with mine. it's looking more and more like i'll be in the bay this fall (and there's no where i'd rather be 😍!)

now i really gotta go home soon :scared:

lets do a list for all the AL's here so we can keep track in the next couple weeks:

Example; Int: x/x/x HPL: x/x/x AL: x/x/x AC: Hopefully soon 😛

or we can skip the interview part 🙂

Just got my letter today. It would be nice if they still told us upper half v. bottom half of the AL.
