Sorry, I am a huge liar. I didn't realize I got a call from an unknown number, which was Dr. Wilson with 'good news.'

Hey does anyone know if there are a lot of inter-professional activities among the medical, dental, pharmacy, and nursing students? Do they take some classes together? Also, do the pharmacy students actually go to school at the Parnassus Campus? (I read somewhere that the School of Pharmacy is located on the Mt. Zion Campus though)

I just thought that increased interaction among the different schools might make up for UCSF's lack of an undergraduate campus 😳

We had 2 "interprofessional days" this year where the first year students from all the health professional schools get together to work in small groups to discuss topics.

We don't take any of our main classes with other schools, but there are elective classes that are interprofessional.

Also, I'm a board member for the Hep B clinic - the board members are mostly Medicine and Pharmacy students, and the volunteers include medicine/pharm/nursing/dental.

The pharm students (and dental, and nursing, as far as I can tell...) go to school at Parnassus, not Mt Zion.

:soexcited:
I got in to PRIME-US!
I'm fired up!
Can't wait to start med school!!!!!!!!! :soexcited:

yay!! see you there 😀

also, do any current or future prime-ers know whether (and how) prime affects financial aid for the non-research years? does it affect it at all? i've heard conflicting info.

thank you! (i'm trying to get all my info ready so i can explain all this to my mom, lol)

Found out on Wednesday that I was first on the alternate list, found out today some blessed soul gave up their spot so now I'll be a part of PRIME next year 🙂

Hmm, in the contract that Dr. Wilson sent, it seems to imply that PRIME doesn't affect fin aid other than 1) money for the two week orientation (health insurance, enrollment, stipend) and 2) money for the masters year (says $20,000). Apart from this info, haven't heard anything.

random question, but does anyone know whether people taking an extra year to do a pathways to discovery research fellowship still have to pay fees? (i believe the fellowship covers living expenses) thanks!

I'm asking a 3rd year who I know is taking a research year. I'll let you know when she replies.

This is the answer I got:

We can get financial aid for 4 1/4 years, though I've spoken to someone who got aid for 5 years, so it is possible. Most people do a grant to help fund the extra year. Here are a couple of links. The grants also help with health insurance. There are lots of quirks and caveats that need to be clarified for you depending on what you choose to do. Our malpractice is also covered in our fees, so that needs to be considered somewhere in the equation, depending on how clinical your research. Sorry there's not a perfectly clear answer.

Just keeping track of this board over the last year i realize that there are some amazingly die hard UCSF fan (i know it isn't hard because UCSF is well... AWESOME). San Francisco is an amazing city and all of the people on the alternate list have something that they could bring to benefit UCSF, the city, and the field of medicine.

As time comes closer to the waitlist moving from the May 15th deadline. I just wanted to wish everyone the best of luck and as someone who has dealt with rejection and disappointment on many levels in my life I hope everyone gets exactly what they want. But knowing that probably it isn't possible, I just want to say in my experience- that in some way- it will work out ok no matter what happens. A year from now or maybe even a couple of years from now, I always know that when I look back on my life, things that were REALLY important, don't seem like the "end all" they were when I was facing them.

Again best of luck :luck: You all deserve it for the wonderful applications you've cultivated and self-invested to get here!

Hi.
Does anyone know this information:
I vaguely remember UCSF saying that every applicant after the interview gets a score. Does anyone know what that score is out of and what would be the cut off for acceptance/waitlist/rejection? As May 15th draws really really nearer, I want to get a better sense of my chances of getting off the waitlist. Although I understand that there's a lot of movement off the waitlist, it doesn't mean much if it doesnt take much to get on it.

Thanks!!

oh one more question. Does anyone know who we can send an e-mail of continued interest to??

Dean Wofsy did mention a scoring system, but they don't release what your score is out of. I don't think that information would help anyway, as they would definitely not release your score or your rank (if there is one) within the pool. I know it's a tough wait, but unfortunately that's what it is. I've heard that most people on the WL hear back by the end of May though, so you don't have that much more waiting to go.

As for the email to update UCSF at, it's their regular email. [[email protected]]

Hi. Thanks for the quick response. I really appreciate it 🙂. If I remember correctly, I think you're one of the first people to be accepted to UCSF. Have you made a decision yet? Hope to see you there. Finger crossed.:xf:

I'm definitely heading there. See you in the fall, hopefully!

Does UCSF still send out rejections to ALed applicants? Or are we pretty much on it till September?

Yeah, i was wondering the same thing. Also, if we get off the waitlist, will be notified by snail mail or phone call?? I vaguely remember that it's by phone call.

It's by snail mail. I think they call much later when classes are about to start.

Wow, that's a bit surprising. Thought they would expedite everything using email or phone after May 15th...

And let you miss out on the wonderfully drive-you-crazy period of waiting for the mailman and then having your heart skip a beat whenever you see a large envelope? Never!

Hey! I know this question isn't UCSF related, but I know this thread is checked often and figured i could get a quicker response that way 🙂
As ONEMCATAWAY mentioned, it's May14th! The deadline to withdraw applications from schools you got accepted to, but choose not to attend is tomorrow. Now, I understand that I could either call in or send 'em an e-mail. I am guessing they don't be checking their e-mails tomorrow. So should i need to get this done today?

oh, one more question:

Does anyone know when the first person reported being accepted to UCSF from the waitlist in previous years? Since it's snail mail.. I am guessing probably not until late next week at the earliest?

5/21 then some on 5/22 &5/26 and two phone calls on 6/4.. 🙂

somebody in another thread said they called AMCAS about this and AMCAS said as long as you email your withdrawls on May 15th before 11:59 PM, you'll be okay. you might want to check yourself though. i'm going through the same thing, waiting for my financial aid to come in today from on school and getting kind of anxious that they haven't sent it in yet

To all Waitlisters, I withdrew from UCSF, so hopefully it will work out for you!

Also, to anyone about to withdraw, I have to say UCSF gave the kindest response note ever...really appreciated it and was so thoughtful.

That makes me feel a bit less nervous about the beginning of next week! I'm only a couple blocks from the school, so I can't use the board as a bellweather...

It's May 15th!!!

Good luck to everyone on the Alternate List 🙂 :luck:

Good luck! :luck:
I know for many of you, it's been an agonizing wait, but it's finally happening... 🙂

So you know how in previous UCSF threads, there's always one or two applicants who like to call admissions, ask questions and report back here? We need one of those...

Anyway, I'm feeling like we'll get some decisions by the end of the week. What do the rest of you think?

Called yesterday, I was told that if I don't get "something" by the end of the month to call back. I was waitlisted.. i forget when... 👍

Oh. does that mean there's a possibility of people getting rejected from the waitlist..? aah!

I think that it means that if you don't get something positive, they might give you a better sense of where you stand for getting in after the first round of acceptances go out. From my experience with the admissions office, they seem like they'd try to give you some helpful information.

I'm impressed by the relative awesomeness of their admissions department. Even their let down letters are astoundingly well written and thoughtful.

any day now someone is gonna scream ACCEPTED off the waitlist, i am trying to prepare myself if that person wont be me but just cant help to envision that day if i am lucky enough :xf::luck:

gooood luckkk to everyone waiting with me i hope there is a lot of movement this year!!!

Considering that May 15th was a Saturday and that the May15th deadline is not that strict, I don't think anyone will hear until Friday at earliest.

Right there with you. I don't particularly want to get my hopes up, but, man, it would be freaking awesome.

So of course the first thing I see in your post is "ACCEPTED" and immediately got nervous/excited. Then I read the rest of your post...
