Hey Nancy. That's how UConn does it. I got my interview invite really early (like July) and did not hear from the admissions office until early/mid september for an October interview.

Give it time. Sure you will have enough time to schedule it.

Does anyone have an idea of how often the admission committee meets to make decisions. I interviewed last week and i'm really eager to hear back. It seems like most people are notified within a month (although all of the post interview notices people have posted here are acceptances so maybe wait list/rejection notification takes longer).

I interviewed last week too, and we were told that the comittee meets every two weeks and that they would review our apps on 11/10.

I interviewed first full week of Oct., my letter was dated Oct. 28 and heard Oct. 31. Most people probably got the letter on Nov. 2nd if they were accepted.

So to answer your question I would say probably about a month (if you're accepted) maybe a month and a half max. They said they were a bit behind with meeting on people when I was there, so I would only imagine they are slightly behind now, if not more.

If you do not hear by then you're most likely either still being reviewed, on hold, or wait listed. I know wait listed individuals usually do not have the same speedy notification.

Does anyone know what your chances are of getting an interview if you're put on hold?

Depends on your stats. If you have a decent GPA, MCAT scores then probably really good. If you have low GPA, high MCAT scores or vice versa I'd say fair and if you have low in both not so good.

Also, it depends on your ECs too. If you were really involved it helps.

I interviewed 11/2, it was an interesting experience... This was the second time I interviewed at Uconn, last time around I was waitlisted (I applied wayyy late, like December, and got an April interview). Normally Dr. Sanford does a PBL excercise (same one every year) with us but he didn't this time because the girl who interviewed alongside me had also seen the exercise before. After chatting with him and the other girl for 30 minutes about plans to partner with Hartford Hosp. and expand the school, he asked us like two questions and then we moved on to the next interviews. My next interviewer was about 20 minutes late for my interview and clearly didn't have much time look over my application. She claimed to be surprised that I was even offered an interview and told me that I seemed to have a lack of physician shadowing experience and wondered how I could know that being an MD was really what I wanted. After I told her about my shadowing experience and everything else the interview went quite well and we talked about art and music and other hobbies of mine. I went from being extremely nervous to feeling pretty good. It was very strange. On the one hand she commented "The most successful physicians I know made a tough choice between pursuing careers in art or music, or a career in medicine," referring to my own past choices but then kept bringing up the point that there isn't much great research going on at Uconn and that they don't produce many academic physicians (I'm hoping teach and do research as an MD). On the one hand she seemed to be encouraging, on the other quite discouraging. I'm still quite unsure about how that went. My student interview went just fine (I was late for that also as a consequence of the previous interview) but she really didn't ask me much more than the standard "what is your best/worst quality" and she clearly did not want to talk about my research experience. I applied with a 36R 3.85 grad GPA from the Uconn MCB grad program and I have tons of experience in the medical field though not directly with physicians (pharm tech/medical technology). I was pretty sure that I'd have no problem getting in after having been wait listed previously, having improved my MCAT by 5 points, and having completed an MS in biochemistry. I'm really not so sure anymore though... I can't wait to find out. Waiting for the decision is making me crazy.

Letter arrived at my parent's house today! OS, interviewed 10/30. I really liked this school and there's a good chance I'll matriculate.

Got the letter in the mail (via a phone call from my mom 🙂) I am OOS and interviewed 10/26 and am so excited!!!! Congrats to everyone else who heard!

Umm Zack, I wonder which one you were 😀

I interviewed on 10/30 as well, and just got the good news via snail mail today!!!!

Gratz to everyone, its not easy getting one of those 80-20 spots in the class 😍

I interviewed back on October 12th and have yet to hear anything from school despite being IS and having what I felt were great interviews. I thought Dr. Sanford said 4-8 weeks, but based on so many other people who interviewed after me receiving acceptances, do you think this means that they are putting me on hold?

I may be able to answer your question for you.

I appleid last year, was not accepted to UConn, however, I was accepted this year.

If you get accepted you hear by snail mail about 2-3 weeks after your interview (maybe a month or a little later as the interview season goes on). If you don't hear anything my guess is you may have been put on hold/waitlisted. You'll get an e-mail in the future. I would call to make sure.

If people who interviewed before you were accepted that most likely means you were probably put on the waitlist. The hard part is knowing where you rank on the wait list. If you're a high wait list candidate you have a good chance at getting in still, medium/low you probably wont get accepted. I was medium last year and from my understanding they did not even get through the entire high priority waitlist. This year will be the same, if not worse. The applicancy pool is crazy competitive now.

The worst part is the waitlist is not ranked until later in the interview season (I don't remember when but it was around May 15 + or minus a month). It might be March... but either way it was really hard waiting.

Good luck. I noticed almost EVERYONE who has been accepted is OOS. I hope Im not the only instate applicant going to UConn next year haha.

I noticed that too, I'm repping MA myself. Going by the MSAR, OOS makes up a really small portion of the actual class. They have to be near their OOS quota by now one would think? Congrats to everyone so far!

i'm IS and have been accepted. 🙂 my application season is still all up in the air but it is possible!

Ha! I too have noticed this. I'm instate and will be matriculating.

I say the more out of staters the better. If I end up going to Uconn, I wanna meet some peeps from all different places haha.

Haha agreed. I just feel bad for the other people in state who are applying if like half the class is OOS.

Either way I cannot wait to meet you guys next year.

For those that interviewed or will interview, what airport did you fly into? Also, when does the interview day end?

I flew into the Bradly International Airport (BDL) in Hartford. I think my interview day ended around 3:30 PM.

Have any December interviewees heard from admissions to schedule their interview yet? I'm beginning to think my invitation was a mistake haha, I'm getting nervous...

Did any of you who have gotten accepted go to UCONN as an undergrad? The only reason I ask is because I will be applying to the med school this summer and I'm currently a Junior at UCONN. I'm Instate.

Yes, I went to Uconn for undergrad, and I am IS as well. They take a good number of ppl from Uconn undergrad. every year.

I'm also a UConn undergraduate accepted at UConn Med (but I'm OOS). I've read that about 25% of the class at the UCHC is made up of students from the UConn undergraduate campuses. Hope this helps.

True but don't forget to factor in the postbac program, usually 8 or 9 out of the 10 ppl every year get into uconn med. And the BS/MD program takes 4 or 5 spots as well. So that 25% from uconn undergrad is inflated

Oh, true. I forgot about the CPIM folks, but I question whether or not the postbacs are listed from UConn or their respective undergrads. It would make a big difference.

Ziggy, are you currently at UConn?

I graduated in May, and I am actually doing research at the health center right now.

Btw, to all you accepted folks, did you guys send in your confirmation by snail mail or email? and do we get a response that they had gotten it?

I sent it by email and Dr. Sanford emailed me back. I am really quite pumped for next year. I have been away from home for quite some time; I'm really looking forward to completing med school in CT.

And I love UConn. 😀

Ah, I snail mailed it to him, I hope that's ok. Prob should've just dropped it off at the office myself lol.

Huh, we're supposed to contact them, not just pay the fee? Aw shucks...

Lol, that's how I kinda felt, but I guess it's not bad if you can just email Dr. Sanford

How long after you sent in your confirmation email did Dr. Sanford email you back? I emailed him Dec 20, and I haven't gotten a response yet...

Do you mean Nov 20th? But either way, I just dropped by the admissions office, apparently he had some family stuff to deal with so that's why he is behind. I still haven't gotten a response either.

Oops, I meant Nov. 20.
Ok, thanks for the info! 🙂

I interviewed on 11/2 and still haven't heard anything yet. Dr. Sanford said 6-8 weeks, but it seems everyone who has posted on here is getting an acceptance within 2-4 weeks. Should I start to worry yet? Does anyone know how often the adcom meets?

I think they meet once every other week, and I've heard Tuesdays, but I am not exactly sure on that one. And the Holiday season does screw everything up as well.

Lol so I'm really confused, I send Dr. Sanford an email earlier to ask if he got my acceptance confirmation letter in the mail, and I got an email saying "ziggydoc, message rec'd and copied to file" I'm not sure if my email asking him was copied to file, or that he received my acceptance confirmation and that is in my file. 😳

Same thing happened to me. I called a while ago before I got this email because I hadn't heard anything back for a while and was assured everything was ok. I'm pretty sure this means they got the confirmation. Congrats!

I have noticed a strong hysteria on this thread about the acceptance confirmation. First, if you paid the fee online you should be ok. I highly doubt they are going to deny your acceptance, yet you sent them cash to hold your spot in the class. Second, I think if you get an e-mail back from Dr. Sanford you are fine. UConn is a very relaxed place and I highly doubt they have a digital clock counting the exact second one of us sends our acceptance letter. Then again... I've been proven to be wrong before so you never know.

On second note, does someone want to make a facebook group possibly so we can all start to meet one another? I am super excited to attend (100% going) and would love to get in contact with others who are 100% sure (or 95% sure haha) they will be attending.

Just received notice that I have been put on the alternates/hold list. WTF! This is the second time they've put my on hold and I am NOT happy about it. At least I received notice that Baylor is inviting me for interview at the same time... makes me less angry than I would have been. Perhaps it was because I'm so interested in research, but that's so stupid if it is the case. Not all of us need to be PCP's.

Did your waitlist notice arrive via Email or Snail Mail? Any other November interviewees hear anything yet?
