When I called the admissions office, they acted like I was crazy when I said that I was told the majority of acceptances would be made around this time and that most people on hold will get in or waitlisted. I feel like the Dean was so adament about saving seats until the end to be fair, maybe I am crazy.....?? They said 14 spots were saved/filled yesterday, and he would not expect there to be many more until May 15th. 🙁

You're not crazy. They said that repeatedly. The dean or director or whoever made the last presentation of the interview day even reiterated this for 20 minutes before we left. He even said that they would accept a few people around the holidays and more in January, which didn't happen. They must have changed things around this year.

I guess things change and we have to be flexible. After all, what's another month? I've already waited 6 months since I've been on hold. Hopefully all the waiting will be worth it in the end. We need to have a positive attitude 😀

Keep on truckin'

You are right, gotta stay positive!!! The only other school I am accepted to starts June 1st so its kind of a time crunch for me : )

Not really my place in this thread, but I do scan through others once in a while. Anyway, it is fairly common to be told they save seats for the end. I'm sure they always intend to, but I've always kind of doubt that it happens for real. Schools always overaccept and then bank on a historical trend for how many of those students will be expected to come there. If that number spikes up, then others may be screwed over later on.

for those of u guys who UF is their top choice, did yall try sending them a letter of interest? 😎

My impression of the "saving seats" thing was that they only gave out a set # of spots after each interview, or up to a max #, so that no one was every interviewing for a waitlist position. They wanted to be fair to those who interviewed in March and could be offered a seat then. I never got the impression that there would be a ton of people on hold who would suddenly get in after the last interview date, but rather the May 15 date would be the big rush. In fact I got the opposite impression, that it was worked out so that after the last interview, every spot they planned to provide an acceptance for would be filled form those interviews, and then fill in any gaps of people who may have already declined or extras they had left over. Best of luck to all out there tho. I'll be withdrawing my seat from UF as soon as I get the financial aid packet and summer research decision from Univ of South Alabama. Can't believe I'm not gonna go to UF after growing up in the area, but USA wowed me.

So this time when I called to ask when students on hold would learn their decisions, the lady said that they would let us know as soon as the adcom gave them the files with the decisions and that she hoped it would be in the next 2 weeks. I don't know why there are so many stories... I'm still gonna hold out hope until I get my email from UF. Good luck to all!

Well that's confusing. I have become apathetic and resigned myself to waiting, personally.

I'm gonna have to agree with everyone else. I thought most ppl would be put on hold and hear decisions back around this time. So with all this confusion, I've been doing a little "research" lol. So this is taken verbatim from the "What happens next" info sheet given in the interview folder:

"...and now you've been interviewed at the UF-COM. For most applicants, the waiting game begins now. A small % of applicants will find out their final decisions right away, but it is very likely that you will receive a letter from us telling you that you are "on hold"...we are very careful not to fill our class before we have completed all interviews. This results in a maority of applicants waiting until April for a decision following their interview. Once all interview have been completed, the ad-comm will review the files and additional offers to applicants will be made. At this time we will typically overfill the class, because we know that not everyone to whom we make an offer will decide to matriculate at UFCOM."

So with that being said, I was also kinda confused about them only offering 14 more acceptances, so I called the admissions office. I was told that yes, 14 offers of acceptance were made last Friday. However, they do fully anticipate for more offers to be made and that everyone should know their status within the next 10-15 days. She said that it seems that the adcom is giving them decisions in batches, so that is how they are notifying us. 15 "business days" is May 11. So hopefully everyone will hear between now and then.

That was a lot, but hopefully we r not all confused now.

Good luck everyone! :luck:

But they haven't specified how many more acceptances to expect. Is it only 3 or 4 more, another 15, or a significant number? Either way, May 11th is awfully close to May 15.

I'm starting to give up on UF. Tired of the waiting and anticipation.

+1, I'm becoming very turned off by their application process on top of a number of other things.

Exactly. Either dump me or accept me, don't keep me on the back-burner! I was under the impression they would make decisions to waitlist/accept/reject in March. As it's almost May...damn you Gator nation!

I am frustrated with med school apps in general. Can't wait for it all to be over!

I am starting to go crazy. I just went back and read the UF thread from last year's application cycle. Definitely did not make me feel better. There were people waiting to hear all they way through the first day of orientation. I guess they never heard a yes or a no specifically. Good luck to all of those waiting to hear. Does anyone know if they are going to take another group sometime in the next few weeks? I know they took 14 off the hold list about 2 weeks ago.

Hey all!

I'm a UF senior right now who just got accepted tot he Vet school for next year. I know med schools keep you waiting for a while - I haven't read all of this thread, so idk how many of you have decisions yet?

But anyway, I'm looking for a roommate (or 2) - girls or guys, doesn't matter, but I'd probably prefer female rommies. I have 2 cats, so it would have to be a pet-friendly place. I'm the kind of person who needs to study to do well, I don't have a photographic memory nor do things just "stick" after hearing it one time. I'm looking for a roommate(s) that are just as driven, hence my post on your forum.

If you're remotely interested, PM me. I'm in Gainesville until probably May 3rd, after that I'll be at home (Fort Lauderdale) working. Let me know, I'd love to meet!!

they do send u a rejection letter eventually. but yea, we did fret all the way to the end. if its of any consolation, at least two of us got into the schools we wanted this year 😀

I still can't believe you never got a UF interview this year...maybe they thought you were overqualified?

seriously doubt it lol, but i never sent them any updates. my motivation to attend uf kinda left along with tebow 😛

Does anyone know (on average) what % of students are accepted from the Alternate list?

Alternate list for me too! Now more waiting. Man, May 15 can't come quickly enough!!!

By the way the email says that "not everyone who was on hold following their interview has been invited to be an alternate" Is this true? Has anyone been rejected? Just curious...

Wondered the same...alt listed. GL to all waiting.

Alternate list too...I'm going to withdraw soon. Didn't really like UF anyway...

I am assuming you guys found out by email?

Hmm I have not heard anything yet. Oh boy.

Good luck to everyone waiting...trust me I know what it feels like.

Man...didn't anybody from the hold list get an acceptance? I knew many people last year who did...

Another alt lister chiming in. At least it seems like I'm in good company!

Yeah, alt list as well. It said the class was full in that email, if they meant exactly full and not overfilled I'm still optimistic about our chances given May 15th hasn't arrived yet

Hey everyone...I am on the alternate list too. I am wondering if anyone was accepted today? Sounds like the majority of us are still waiting. Good luck to everyone. I am guessing we will start hearing more after May 15th...like everyone else is saying....more waiting!

I'm going to be withdrawing my acceptance as well, emailed them to ask how I have to do it officially.

I know of at least one person that got in yesterday.

I was alt. listed as well, but my friend didn't get that pleasure and was rejected this morning 🙁 I'm not quite sure what they're looking for this year, she had high stats and went to UF for undergrad. Goodluck to everyone on the list & let's hope that people have gotten fed up enough with waiting to go so far as withdraw their acceptances 😀
Go Gators

Alt. list too. 😎
What is the advantage of formally withdrawing? Why not just wait and see?

There is no advantage of withdrawing for the person doing the withdrawing other than having one less school to wonder about. The advantage for YOU is that for every person who withdraws, you have that fewer people to compete with for a spot (I feel like that sentence isn't grammatically correct, but I'm too tired to try to figure out what the correct way would be, lol).

Any other aid packages coming in? Happy/not so much?

I just withdrew my acceptance. Good luck to everybody!

Weren't those of us on the alternate list supposed to receive a packet in the mail with something we had to sign and return? Has anyone received this, because I haven't.

Actually I just reread the email and I guess it is just a formal letter with our status. I think we were supposed to email them back to let them know we wanted to be on the alternate list. I just emailed them. Oops. Oh well.
