I'm just trying to stay optimistic, don't stomp on my happiness...

tracker just updated, looks like a bunch of new interview invites went out today--anyone get lucky?

Although I'm pretty sure I know what the answer will be, U-M is still a half hour late with my deferral decision. ._.

oh man 25 interviews left guys. good luck to everyone. sounds like its getting to crunch time.

nope, I haven't heard anything from them today either. So much for 2:00pm.

just checked my email!! accepted today after being deferred in October!!!! I can't believe it!

by the way, I'm not a troll. I'm an occasional poster, but since I know only 10 people were accepted, I created this name to remain anonymous. Normally I wouldn't post my acceptance, but I'm just doing it so that you all know that U-M HAS sent them out. Congrats to anyone else out there who was accepted!

they can't be closing files as fast as they say they are considering there are 25 invites left and I'm still under review.
Come on Mich. Don't do me like that

I just called them and they said they were still releasing them and should have everything up by 5pm est.

And congrats! When did you receive the email and did you also get that infamous video message? ANd are you instate or oos?
Thanks.

Hey, were you in-state or one of the lucky out-of-staters?

Whoop whoop -- who's on the train with me to February? Nice to know I'm still "highly desirable". Wouldn't want to get the wrong idea! ;-)

I'm going to try to forget about this school, now -- with how few OOS deferrals they let in this time, I figure my chances are zilch come February. I take comfort in knowing that my rabble-rousing has been the instigating cause of several twitter posts from the heads of the admissions team themselves, though, and I hope my slight cantankerousness has effectively conveyed how patronizing the deferral process feels.

haha im comin' along for the ride as well.

Me too. Womp womp.

Losing interest in the school with each one of these teases.

Yup im in the same boat with the same sentiments. I guess it one of those if you dont want me then I dont really want you kinda things. You wanna go where your wanted!!

Also my experience with UM has caused me rethink the importance of the interview in the application process. Coming into this I thought that the interview was the make or break b/c lets face it, just about everyone who interviews is qualified (i.e. - mcat, gpa, ec, lors, etc) so where you differ and can shine is how you conduct yourself in your interview. My UM interview was amazing, my alumni interviewer was like Michigan would love to have you, you have to come haha. Not that I would ever expect anything in this process but I kinda expected an admission after that but instead.... just months of waiting 🙁. With that said I also interviewed with Dr. Blackwood, not sure if any of you had him, but he is a very different interviewer so even if i though it went well, who knows what he thought and took from the interview.

merry christmas everyone, let's all try to stay positive 🙂

So I know that UM sees what schools you've been accepted to in March, and then they give scholarships to match your best offer (e.g. if Michigan's tuition is $40k and your in-state school's tuition is $30k, Michigan will give you a $10k scholarship). Do they do this for ALL accepted students? Or just to the really good ones? Also, if you get a scholarship to another school, on top of lower tuition, would Michigan also try to match that? For instance, if I were to be accepted to Cleveland Clinic (Cleveland gives full-tuition scholarship to all students) by some sort of crazy luck, would Michigan give a full-tuition scholarship??? I highly doubt it, but just thought I would ask anyway!

Where did you hear that they match your in-state school's lower tuition? That would be fantastic! 😱

I was under the impression that they gave recruitment scholarships to students they wanted, and that those scholarships may depend on what other schools you were in at.

I'm guessing they do this to encourage students who are awesome to come to their school over someone else. They do it so at least tuition isn't a factor. I can't imagine that they have the money to do this for everyone. If you're just an average admitted student it doesn't matter whether they get you or the next person on the list with similar appeal.

Heard this at the interview. And yes, I'm referring to the recruitment scholarships you mentioned, assuming that one of the schools you were admitted to was your state school with (hopefully) lower tuition.

Makes sense. haha I'm most likely one of the "average" accepted students. ho hum.

happy new year everyone. let's try to stay positive

Here's a speculative question:

The University of Michigan bought Pfizer's research facilities in a relatively low price. They plan to use the facilities for biomedical research. What do you think the University of Michigan's research ranking will be in 1 year? How about in 5 years?

Probably top 5 in a few years, maybe?

I don't know, UM has averaged a 9.5 ranking in the last 10 years. I imagine the new facilities can get them back up to 8 or so but breaking top 5 would be hard (displacing Harvard, JHU, WashU, UPenn, or UCSF would be a lot to ask). Anyways at this level, using these rankings, it's like trying to cut hairs with sledgehammers.

Good luck to everybody, UM is a great place and they let you know super quickly.

Hey, guys and gals. Current M4 from UMich here - just wanted to offer my assistance with any questions you may have. I'm sure you guys have gotten a lot of this, but if you have any concerns, feel free to send me a PM.

Congrats to those already accepted and best of luck to those of you at earlier stages in the process!

"Very busy day-unfortunately closing large numbers of files beginning tomorrow. Still reviewing other files (R&NR) for remaining interviews."

What's R&NR mean?

What's R&NR mean?

Reviewed and not reviewed I assume.

gahhhh when the waiting end?????

i feel like i'm hoping for a wonka golden ticket at this point. i guess i should be glad that i haven't been rejected yet, but come on! 😕

michigan's twitter has been very busy this morning, but nothing to do with admissions...

weather reports, flu reports, and a link to a nytimes article about teach for america? wtf? go review files people!

anyone closed yet today? i just uploaded a letter, hopefully they'll read it before closing me, haha
if not, not such a waste, i like my letter 🙂

nothing closed yet. i don't think they are going to update throughout the day, probably a mass update at the end of the day.

yeah no closure here yet either... though i was kind of expecting it when i checked a few minutes ago. guess well just have to wait until the mass closings of files

after that post yesterday, there better be some kind of change today.

Could someone remind me if they send out rejections via email or snail mail?

I haven't heard anything yet....

if i recall correctly, i think that you have to check your online status to see if your file has been closed... at least that's why i keep checking mine anyway.
