my status is still:

File Complete - Under Review
Your file is now complete and under review. Reviews may take up to several months and could include some "on hold" time while we compare groups of applicants. You can view the checkboxes on this screen to see which of your materials we have received. Thank you in advance for your patience during this busy period!

since 7/22...any thoughts on what that means? Lol

How bout this man, I've had that same message since 7/9.
But ya it doesn't mean anything now we just haven't been selected for an interview yet nor been rejected.

Yeah I've had that status since 7/7.

Don't know what's up with that.

I'm wondering if Michigan (and other schools for that matter) actually evaluate applications in the order in which they come in... because I was only complete for 4 days before I got the interview invite

Have you noticed that nobody has been rejected yet? I have an eerie feeling that if we haven't heard from them yet, then the ax will drop.
damn.

Would it be okay to list post-graduate employment as a non-academic activity? It's recent and meaningful in terms of pointing me towards medicine....

I did. I took "academic" to mean anything relating to schoolwork towards a degree.

So you think they use the hold status (cannot offer interview at this time, but will be reviewed again later, be patient) for people who they are not sure they want to reject but they don't want in the first pool of interviewees?... For some reason I was assuming they used that hold status for everybody except those they want to interview first, including people they plan to reject... don't know. Does anybody?

Interview Invite 8/19/09 via the status page. I've been complete since 7/14/09.

Fellow Michigan Applicants,

Does the 1500 character limit include spaces or not? and,

For those who didn't get an automatic invite, about how long does it take to get the secondary from the time you add Michigan to your AMCAS list?

Thanks ya'll.

Interview Invite 8/19/09 via the status page. I've been complete since 7/14/09.

Congrats! I've been complete since 8/10/09, obviously still waiting...

uh oh?

ok something just popped into my mind....

I was involved in Americorps Students in Service at my school... it's basically a part-time Americorps program for college students in which you perform like 300 hours of service for the community and get an award (it's a nice way to make a cool $1000). [synopsis of SIS at the bottom of this message if you care to read it]. Anyway, on the Michigan app I checked the box that asked if you have "completed your service for Americorps." Technically, this was a part-time service, but it was really only me going out an finding service activities and then logging it and reporting it to Americorps. It wasn't a REAL full-length Americorps stint.

I just got an interview invite to Michigan yesterday, and now I'm wondering if it was a bad idea to mark that box. Obviously I wasn't lying or anything, but in retrospect I'm sure that's not what they were looking for. do you think this is going to harm me in any way? I'm sure they'll inquire about it at the interview (I mean, honestly, how many people are involved in Americorps?), so what do you think? Am I being overly paranoid?

What is Students in Service (SIS)?

The Students in Service program is a part-time AmeriCorps program that encourages and supports college and university students to enroll as part-time AmeriCorps members who provide valuable service in their communities. SIS members make a difference in their communities, gain valuable civic and workforce skills, and upon completion of their term of service, earn an education award.
By participating in the Students in Service program, the member becomes a part of the AmeriCorps national service network that improves lives and strengthens communities throughout the United States of America.

Edit: I put the Americorps award in my awards section on AMCAS, in the hopes that UM would put 2 and 2 together... but I'm not sure if that happened...

For those who have completed the secondary. For this question:

Select one experience from your list in part A (Non-Academic Activities) and describe in a brief essay its impact on your decision to go into medicine. Do not exceed 1500 characters (about 250 words).

Am I the only one who feels like it's cheating to talk about my clinic experience? It's really the best thing I have, but I had already made the decision to go into medicine when I started volunteering there. It just confirmed it.

nahh, that's what I did. Just talk about how it changed or enhanced your view of medicine and your future goals.

Anyone have the number admitted at Michigan last year? I've got the interview in a few weeks and I'd like to have some idea going in what my chances are. 50%?

I got an email from someone at the med school today (98% sure it was a rejection when I opened it). It was a message saying to check out the school's twitter page for updates fromt he dean and other adcoms. Anyone else get this? I hate twitter.

I not only hate twitter, I hate receiving that e-mail when I've been complete since 7/15 without a status change. Kind of cruel to send us an e-mail that doesnt pertain to our status, not to mention irritating, especially when other people have been notified of being on hold or extended interviews after being complete way after me.. I guess I'd just like the closure if I've already been rejected. Oh well, Michigan is still an incredible school.

when i first saw the subject, the only things i saw were "U-Michigan Medical School"
after having a slight heart attack, i read the whole subject. i hate this waiting game

haha got the same thing, I think I was relieved that it was a twitter email. I actually like that schools do this (twitter... not send us random emails that scare us half to death.)

Agreed! Stop tweeting and read my goddam application haha

I think last year they interviewed about 725 and admitted about 380 of us and our class this year is 170 exactly. I think things are changing a bit this year so no promises on those numbers...I'd just refer to the admissions tracker.

I applied last year. They didn't reject me until like Feb. I was also in the MSTP pool until like December. Take home message: I think they wait a while to reject ppl.

Just wondering...did you all send your letters of rec in with your secondary? or do you wait to send it in until they request it? i read on their flowchart you wait but i wanted to confirm. let me know 🙂

They get letters through AMCAS and had mine before I sent in my sec app.

how many people here have been complete for more than a month without news?

I'm right there with you guys, complete since 7/15. Weird

I was complete 7/20 and no news--depressing since I thought my stats were good.

This has been discussed in general in other threads but I live in California and will be in the region in early November. Has anyone had experience with emailing UofM to say that you will be in the area with the intent of getting an interview while you're in the region (so you don't have to fly out twice)?

3.84 (top 10 UG) , 42 and no automatic interview love. Anyone think there's some red flag in my application?

Are you MD/PhD? Cause they don't get auto invites from what I understand. If not, did they recently get your AMCAS stuff? Maybe they stopped doing the auto invite thing now that they have fewer slots remaining. Otherwise, beats me.

You got me, MSTP and my letters aren't in yet. Thanks for letting me know.

Hey,

Can anyone clarify for me whether or not Michigan requires a semester of biochemistry? - MSAR says no, it's only recommended, but Michigan's website says yes.

Thanks

I would believe whomever has first hand information. So believe Michigan. But perhaps if msar says recommended, it is a recent addition or could possibly be discussed to use another course in its place. good luck

I'd assume the website is correct if I were you.

didnt apply to the blue but i always wondered how SDN compares to real ppl

  • Applications Received: 3210
  • Interviews Offered:
    250 of 700
So far they pulled up less than 10% of their applicants

I wonder what % of those getting interviews are on SDN/app

Not many... according to MDApps, a search of people receiving interviews for michigan only turns up 21 results. I'm assuming that people who browse sdn (even the lurkers who don't really post) probably have an MDApps. I could be wrong though (although I'm usually not)

so we are saying that for every interview (and maybe acceptance/rejection) that a SDNer gets, school sends out ~ 10 decisions

this thread is so depressing, weve got like 20 ppl who have been complete for like 6 weeks here and no news.

Has anyone gotten an interview after getting the "We can not offer you an interview at this point" hold?

I am an sdner and I have a MDapp account. I interviewed at UM on 8/28. I haven't put that in my MDapp yet...I just cant figure out how to work with thee MDapp. I guess I will stop updating it unless someone show me how to do so...

What I am trying to say is, there are always exceptions.:luck:
