any idea when UPenn stops giving out invites?

According to last year's thread, most invites came out at the latest by mid-December (so before Christmas). There were a few sent out early January, from interviewees who were put on hold and then placed back under review. Final interview day seems to be January 22nd and there are only 6 interview days in January (about ~150 interviews), so they'll most likely come before the New Year rolls around.

Just got an interview invite for December!!! :biglove:

Seems like they're still sending them out so don't lose hope people! Good luck to everyone, keep up the faith!

Not a good news... Dec. invites are being filled....no~~~~~~~~

Apparently their last interview day is January 22nd. So not really. 🙁

Yes, I just realized it and changed my posting....

It's questionable why you are not invited.

You seem like an IVY-type of applicant....

interview invite TODAY!!!
complete 10/14

Congratulations!

Quick question for anyone who knows -- about how much time did it take from 'submission' to 'complete'? I ask because I never checked to see when I was actually complete, and I never got any sort of email, so all I've got is my submission time.

Thanks to any who respond!

invite yesterday for december dates as well. i would like for ksmi to get hers soon so that we can be interview day twinsies at a school in the north this time. 😀

Oh that'd be fun! That'd be 3 schools we interview at together.

I'm starting to get irritated that none of my friends have gotten interviews here. You should just come visit and go there and demand that they interview you.

Good luck guys! If you look from last year's thread, Penn usually updates early applicants on November 15th (or around that...so sometime next week), which for a portion of people means a 'deferred' status.... that's essentially a pre-interview hold, or an indication that your file has been reviewed but not yet granted an interview. There were definitely people complete in July last year who got interview invites in December, so it's completely normal. While less likely, there were also people were taken off the hold status, re-reviewed, and granted interviews. So it's definitely not a death sentence. The official interview season ends January 22nd at Penn so if you don't hear anything by Christmas or the latest early January then it might be a bad sign.
Any pre-interview status changes today? November 15th fell on a weekend last year as well, so I was thinking the "deferment/hold updates" might happen today. Nothing here yet though... :xf:

no change for me. mine still reads complete

so i got this update:

The Committee on Admissions reviewed your application but has deferred an interview decision. Additional reviews will occur between now and March 2010 to see if your status changes within our applicant pool.

is this pretty much a rejection or have people had success getting interviews after this message?

i got the same thing... penn was a long shot, oh well!

Was this update on the status page, or through email?

no email, just update on the status page

i was complete beginning of September i think

I'm assuming they are updating the statuses today because 11/15 was the posted supplemental application deadline...

in any case, no status update for me (still says "Complete"). I was complete in mid-august

hmmm...no update for me yet either. my status page still says complete (and has since the beginning of August). i guess the wait continues...

wouldn't it be wonderful if we knew anything definitive about this whole admissions process (at any school)? lol

mine also still says complete. is that sign of a definite rejection?

Deferred as well.

Just to recap what the status changes to deferred / no status changes may mean:
Penn usually updates early applicants on November 15th (or around that...so sometime next week), which for a portion of people means a 'deferred' status.... that's essentially a pre-interview hold, or an indication that your file has been reviewed but not yet granted an interview. There were definitely people complete in July last year who got interview invites in December, so it's completely normal. While less likely, there were also people were taken off the hold status, re-reviewed, and granted interviews. So it's definitely not a death sentence.
Most who got interviews in December were not put on hold, but just had to wait longer without hearing anything. I assume they pick November 15th because that's the secondary deadline and by then all complete applications would have been received. A smaller percentage were put on hold, had the status change to under-review again, and then were offered interviews (this, however, seemed less likely).

Hey Everyone,

I'm sorry to see the deferred statuses. I hope you guys get a chance to check this school out even if the chances are slim. I definitely loved it!

Yeah sorry about the holds guys. Judging from last year's thread, there were definitely some people who got put back in review and were offered interviews. So it's not necessarily a death sentence, but it means an interview is less likely (I'd assume it's probably similar to the UChicago hold status).

Hope you liked Philly Apok...take any of my advice for city adventuring? Today was beautiful.

looking at last year's thread, most people who got the deferred message were eventually rejected, although there were at least a few people who got invites.

A handful of people with deferred statuses experienced oscillating statuses between "deferred" and "under review" for a little while, after which some were given an invite and others were rejected.

Many of the people who did not have a status change were given invites. Others had status changes to "deferred" after a few days... so it looks like if you don't have a status change, then that just means they haven't finished reviewing you. However, if you've been complete for a while (pre-september), then I would assume they would've gotten to your app by now.

The only thing I can think of is when you look at the status page it says your app goes through a series of several screenings, which to me means that your app will go through a certain number of screeners, and your app has to be approved to move onto the next screener. At any time they can opt to reject/defer you, and then you don't proceed on. Obviously some people will pass through the screenings quicker than others, and it seems like those of us without status updates haven't been given the axe yet, but we're just progressing slower through the screenings.

idk, this is just pure (optimistic) speculation on my part, but it makes sense to me and I'll go with it for now haha👍

Still "complete" status for me...

Hope they review my application soon.

Oh, I definitely did! The first couple days were a bit gloomy but today was absolutely beautiful! I had a lot of fun. I actually stayed with a host who lives in the Rittenhouse Square area. What a great time!

do they keep giving holds after today? Or do they send out waves of holds. Sorry if someone has answered this already. Thanks. I am still complete.

Deferred. I should have seen this coming since I was complete in August.

Deferred, but at the rate things are going, definitely expected.

I believe Columbia and Hopkins also have shortened pre-clinical curricula. At Columbia, you start rotations in January. At Hopkins, you start in April. At most other schools, you start July 1.

I think at Tufts you start rotating a tiny bit earlier as well.

i think NYU is doing this as well, starting with the next incoming class.

in other news, i'm deferred as well. alas.
