Hey anyone know when the second look weekend for UVA is??

Edit: Found it its the weekend of March 20.

does anyone know how many instate acceptances UVA offers? or what your chances are after an interview?

According to my 2006 US News book 712 Instate applied, 181 were interviewed and 132 were accepted. Out of state 2,892 applied, 324 were interviewed and 182 were accepted. I imagine it stays roughly the same year to year.

GL future classmates.

2008-2009 figures from their website:

Applications:

IS: 767
OOS: 3410
Total: 4177

Interviews:

IS: 153
OOS: 397
Total: 550

They don't mention number of acceptances, so you kind of just have to guess from there, but it does look like it's roughly the same with a slight uptick in applicants (particularly OOS).

Interview invite today (finally 🙂) for Feb. Applied sometime in late Sept, I think. UVa student, IS.

Glad to hear it. I'm still waiting as an OS. I'm guessing my chances at this point are pretty slim though. It's a shame, I really think I'd like to go here if I got in.

Any idea when they're going to officially send out information about Second Look?

Anyone else 100% set on coming for the revisit? If you're not from UVa, do you have an idea of where you'd stay? Are only underrepresented minorities invited to come on that preceding Friday? Will we be able to check out the new building any? Should I stop asking questions now?

Can't answer any of your questions but you can crash at my place for 2nd look just cuz I'm loving your profile pic. Leon Black is the man.

Haha, Leon is one of the best television characters of all time. We'll have to have Curb marathons next year.
In hindsight, I wish I had applied to UVA. It's... p/f all 4 years...
Is it really P/F for the clinical years too?

No - just first two

No idea when we're getting the information, but I'm set on coming. I already scheduled my time off work for that weekend. I'll probably stay in a hotel, depending on when I schedule my flights and such... might spend a day in DC or something as well, since I have a friend up there and she'll probably be a lot more fun on a weekend rather than in the middle of the week like it was the last time I saw her.

does anyone know if UVa accepts letters of interest?

Does anyone think there is still a chance for an interview invite this cycle?
it think they gave invites through the end of feb last year, and lots of pple have been denied so there's a lil hope? i dunno. good luck!

I have been complete since late September, but haven't heard anything... I sent in LOI last month, but... nothing... This was one of my top two choices... At this point, I just want to hear ANYTHING! Well, at least I interviewed at the other one.

Has anyone else been waiting as long as or longer than I have?

I've basically given up hope on an interview...but my scores are competitive. crazy.

This is encouraging!! I bet they are keeping us in limbo in case people cancel their interviews last minute. So, if you have an interview and you are not that interested in UVA, please let someone have your spot!

I have been complete since early August! I definitely understand the agony of waiting...

I have been waiting since September as well! I sent in LOI also and still have heard nothing from the school... Oh well...

How did you find this out? Did you call them or get an email?
They sent an email about 2nd look about fifteen minutes ago, confirming the March 20th date. They'll send a more detailed itinerary soon.

If or when anybody gets the schedule for 2nd look weekend, would you mind posting it? Thnx

Received acceptance by mail today. IS, UVa student, interviewed in Feb. One thing I like about UVa is that I can walk to/from the med school most hours, unlike some of the urban schools.

exactly, told my pI that everything there looked so safe compared to Baltimore.(for some reason she was trying to convince me to stay in Maryland)

i was driving by there(Charlottesville) at 2am and saw a bunch of girls walking around by themselves. HA, tell 'em to try that in Baltimore(Hopkins or UMD)

Have any IS applicants gotten an interview lately? I've been in review since September.

I'm an IS applicant and I got an invite on 1/14 for an interview on 2/25. I think they interview into March.

I just wanted to put up a last-ditch post for those of us still holding out for interview invites...

I called the admissions office and they said that the interview schedule is filled. However, they are still keeping some applications in consideration in case people cancel their interviews. So if you have an interview scheduled, but you are not very interested in UVa, please cancel so that those of us who are can still have a chance!

Thanks!😳

I was scheduled to interview 2/29 but my flight from Atlanta to Charlottesvile got cancelled the day before. There was no way I could get to Charlottesvile in time for my interview so I lost my spot. The admissions office told me all the interview spots were full and that I would go on an interview waitlist. On the following Monday, they offered me another interview for March 4th. So, yes the list is definitely full, but with so many people hearing back from schools, there are sure to be spots opening up for some last minute invitations. Good luck to everyone still holding out.

Second look schedule is out. Looks like registration's at 10, followed by tours, lunch, and then the formal program of panels starting at 1:30. There's a reception at 4:30 for those interested in talking to more students.

Is anyone interviewing this Thursday? I think it's the last day of interviews, so here goes nothing!

Has anyone who interviewed last week (ending February 26th) received a decision letter this week in the mail yet? Normally letters seem to arrive by Tuesday (Wednesday on the late side) and I have yet to receive mine?

Thoughts?

I interviewed February 17th and I haven't heard anything. I figured this was probably not a good thing, as all the students who went there said they heard within like 5 days. Who knows, though

I was under the impression that all decisions, regardless of whether it was acceptance, wait, or rejection, were sent out on the same day. Maybe they got lost? They told us to call within 10-14 days of our interviews if we hadn't heard, did you call?

I didn't call yet. I feel like I remember them saying to call if you haven't heard in 3 weeks. So for me that would be March 10. I'm not really sure what to do

I would definitely call. I interviewed yesterday and they said they review the interviewees from Mon-Thursday on Friday and send out all decisions the next week, so you should have heard back.

Alright, I called them this morning. They said a decision was made on me this morning and that they were mailing it out today, but wouldn't tell me what it was. They said it took so long because the last interview was yesterday, which would lead me to believe that everybody who has interviewed since me will be hearing early next week as well.

You won't get one once you commit. I'm pretty sure they won't give you one until after you fill out the paperwork to matriculate.

has anyone gotten the AMCAS background check notification e-mail before getting an acceptance letter from UVA? I just got one and I am also expecting a decision from UVA this week. I am hoping this means an acceptance.

tacopizza- I got one of those today, though VCU also is on the list of schools that require the background check and I have been accepted there.

Just called the admissions office-- a set of acceptances was mailed out yesterday.

Got a rejection here in the mail. I hate the snail mail ones cuz my parents see them, open them, and then randomly insert the rejection into whatever conversation we're having on the phone (sometimes days later).

Me: "So...I was thinking of coming home this weekend and going shopping."

Mom: "Oh that sounds like fun. By the way you were rejected from Virginia."
