"Your M.D. file is now complete. The Admissions Committee will now do a comprehensive review of your application. Once the review is complete, your file will be prioritized, and interviews will be granted based on your priority score and the date your file was completed. Please do not call the Admissions Office requesting special dates. "

????

Yup! i've had this for more than 10 days now! i really hope to hear some good news from them soon :xf:

That has been my status ever since I was complete. I interpreted it as, "don't bother us, we'll get to you". 🙂

Yup. I imagine it's to deter us if/when we get nearby interviews to contact them and say we'll be in the area. Some schools encourage that. VCU evidently discourages it.

I just want to hear something soon!:xf::xf:

I get soo antsy when people have started getting interviews from a school and I haven't heard anything!😛

anyone else getting status update emails, but no actual status updates? lol i get an email everyday, and no changes....weird

I got that for a couple of days straight last week, but no emails since then

I hear ya. I consol myself that in this case, it's only been in state people who've gotten interviews. Jefferson, on the other hand...

blah!

So I've finished filling out the secondary and submitted it but my committee letter won't be ready for another month (around the 60 day deadline). Am I screwed if they don't get the letter by the date? Is it worth foregoing the committee letter at this school and just sending my letters from each professor. Also, is it worth calling to see if they can move my date somehow?

Probably wouldn't hurt to call and explain your situation; the admissions people are really nice.

Thanks. I'll try calling again later today, it just takes me straight to voicemail (voicemailbox is full of couse).

I'll be complete this evening. Doing the research for the essay prompt has made me excited about this school. 👍

This is what I got....

The committee's file review indicates that they are interested in your candidacy. However, due to the increase in the applicant pool this year, it is clear we MAY be unable to interview all the candidates at your priority score. If we do find that we are able to grant an interview you will be notified by e-mail in March.

So if they can interview me, it has to be during March? Or are they just saying this is how long it can go on?

I got a slightly different status...but it starts out the same way.

"The Committee's file review indicates that they are very interested in your candidacy. There is another increase in the applicant pool this year, but we are trying to get all candidates at your priority score interviewed as soon as possible if we have an adequate number of interview slots. Please watch for an e-mail from us regarding a possible interview date."

Are these two basically the same????

No I believe ur message is the best one. It is pretty much a guaranteed interview sometime (don't know when though). The consensus around here is that the "may" and "further" message get you interviews a bit later possibly in november or later. Again the messages are very ambiguous so no one really knows what those two messages mean....But Congrats! U will for sure get an interview sometime!!!

i cant wait to hear from them, i really wanna know my priority and how much they like me (if they do 😛)!!

So, I retook the MCAT on July 31, and now VCU "will be holding [my application] for further action, pending receipt of MCAT scores."

This is the case with a lot of the schools I applied to, and it makes me SO NERVOUS! I feel like having to retake the MCAT (I got a 27 the first time) has defeated the purpose of applying super early, which I did.

Can anyone offer any encouragement? Granted, I am OOS, so I'm lower priority anyway, but still... Help?

Kelsey

dont worry if everything thing else is all done with your secondaries, you'll be complete at the end of august which is not early but considering a higher mcat score and that you are finished with everything else, its not late either! hope you rocked it this time 🙂

hey t othose who got interviews:

when were you guys marked complete?

hey guys

whats the link for VCU's secondary website? I deleted the email that they sent to me by mistake 🙁

I am a re-applicant, and I noticed that the secondary application asks "what additional qualifications do you have? (limit of 150 characters)"

This may sound like a silly question, but are they serious about the 150 character limit? Any chance they meant 150 word limit? I'm not sure I can squeeze in all the significant improvements in my application in 150 characters, at least not using complete sentences! Would bullet points be acceptable?
yeah, they're serious. I'm a non-traditional as well and my sentences devolved into first grade grammar to fit it all in.

maybe they're assuming you can make something like a laundry list instead of writing full sentences?

Thanks for the encouragement. I needed that. 🙂

Wow. Completed this yesterday and a little more than 24 hours later, a rejection notice. Very efficient. 👎

generic, sorry to hear about the rejection.
i think you are the first. did you hear by email?

i've been complete for maybe 2 weeks, and i have no response from them.

Anyone else get one of these? Guess I can forget about VCU for a while.

I'll tell you how it goes...

First you spend a lot of time researching and writing the essay describing why I would like to go to school at VCU. As you research, you feel your interest growing in the school, despite the terrible crime ratings for Richmond you find on wikipedia.

Then out of nowhere, an email...

Please visit the VCU School of Medicine Admissions website at https://www.apps.som.vcu.edu/app_web for your application status update.
Ever the optimist, you hope for great news. You rush to check your updated status to find this...

Your complete application has been considered carefully by the Admissions Committee, and we regret that we are unable to offer you a position in the class beginning in August 2010. The Committee understands the disappointing nature of their decision and does NOT offer reasons for this action but does suggest that you consult with your pre-med advisor to discuss the possibility for improvement of your application.
KABOOM! The world then comes to an end.

Yea I got this one too, I'm not sure if it means an interview will only occur in March. Looking at last year's post, I think it's just a hold until maybe october/november....

I'm sorry to hear that, but I'm sure u'll have better luck with other schools, keep ur chin up.

Does anyone else think that they may go through these applications alphabetically? I'm IS and completed 7/20, but I'm seeing people who completed several days after me get status updates and all.

For those who did get status updates, what's the first letter of your last name? Mine's "R."

"L" I highly doubt its alphabetical...that makes no sense?😕

I DO NOT have a status update yet... but I really want one!!

complete 7/22, OOS, last name "L"

How else do you explain those who were complete multiple days before others getting overlooked for weeks with no news and then someone who submitted their secondary as of yesterday (see Generic's post) getting a response in 24 hours? Perhaps complete random selection? I'm just curious as to how in the world they arrange these applications to be looked at

I was complete about the same as you my last name starts with L and im OOS...So if its alphabetical, its the oddest alphabetical ever lol.

this is what i'm hoping.

they have chosen people for interviews, but are waiting to send out invitations?

Same thing happened to me. But I should have been surprised they sent me a secondary with my 29 MCAT and out-of-state status. Oh well, at least they didn't leave me hanging on false hope. Good luck to everyone else. 🙂

I don't think there's much logic to their review. I was complete 7/17 and haven't heard a thing yet, and my last name starts with K.

Maybe they randomly assigned them to reviewers and the reviewers are randomly working through them....

I like to believe it is like a lottery machine. They throw in our files they bounce around a lot then they press a button and one ejects. A hot model calls out they name and hands it to a reviewer. Hey it could happen lol

haha sadly... that might not be too far off from how a lot of these schools do it, it seems 😛

Here's what I got:

What's the difference between ours?

neuro-I think the "may" status is actually pretty good, from what I've read you could actually get an interview sometime late fall and not have to wait all the way til march. It seems like they try and schedule the in state people first then offer interviews to us OOS'ers so keep your hopes up🙂

I'm still waiting to hear back, I really like this school and am hoping it'll be good news!

From what other people have said I believe the may message is slightly better than the further review message. If you look back a page or two in the VCU thread, someone listed the possible responses you could get from them and ranked them 1-5. The may message seems to be #2 and your message seems to be #3...of course this is all speculation though since none of us really knows what goes on in those tricky adcoms minds🙂

I think the best idea is to just not worry serious guys lol. Im as crazy as the next but unless it says congrats you got an interivew (#1), just move on and hope for an email from them within the next 8 months or so.

Hopefully my MCAT scores from 7/31 will change this to an interview.

i just wanna hear something from them (well other than a rejection)..

yeah right there with you... I feel like every time new people get a status update, you and I are both always like, "where's mine??" 🙂

I'll agree with you on that! I've been complete since 7/27, what about you? Maybe they're making us wait so long because they've decided to give us interviews and just want to make us appreciate it even more when it comes😀
