Just got off the phone with admissions. I interviewed on March 26th and they had "no decision" on my file yet. She said the Ad-com has been running a bit behind so it could be either the end of this week or the end of next week, she wasn't sure! But just for all of you waiting, that's what I was told!

Hey all. I was waitlisted at Creighton back in September. Does anyone know how much movement there is off the waitlist each year?

During the presentation on my interview day, they said that 65 folks or so were taken off the waitlist last year, which was particularly high in comparison to other years, but just goes to show that quite a few can come off the waitlist!

Called admissions again today -- Decision made, waitlisted. So, if any of you who interviewed on the last couple of interview days are just dying to hear your status you can give a call to the admissions office. Good luck all

I interviewed in mid-march. Called today and they said by the end of the week...finger crossed.

Hey everyone. I withdrew my acceptance earlier this week. It's a great school and a great program and I'm looking forward to working alongside Creighton docs in the future. Good Luck!

Interviewed 3/26, got the waitlist letter today. Damn.

Can any current Creighton students (or well-informed applicant/thread follower) comment on the typical daily/weekly schedule of students during the first two years? In particular, what time does the day typically start, when does it end, what type of learning setting is utilized at particular times of the day (lecture, small group, other), what day of the week are tests taken on, how frequent are exams (I know this will vary with each course, but on average), etc.? Also, are courses both audio and video recorded?

Additionally, during the first two years, are courses generally taken one at a time, or are they overlapping? I am trying to get a feel for the number of subjects I would be focusing on at one particular time.

Finally, can someone comment on the how Creighton helps prepare you for the USMLE Step 1 and how much time students are provided to prepare for it.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance!! 🙂

Just withrew my acceptance today, although I loved Creighton. Good luck to those waiting, hope you get my spot! 👍

Just withdrew today. This was my favorite school after interviewing, but the cost difference between this and in state was just too big.

Hopefully this will open up a spot for somebody here. Good luck everyone.

Just want to add another withdrawal. Loved the school but money was the divisive issue here. Good luck waitlisters!

I'm on the waitlist at Creighton, and I know they like updates. Right after I interviewed, I sent them a letter of intent. This past week, I did some more shadowing, and sent them another update regarding those experiences. Does anyone have other suggestions? Some have suggested that I call the admissions office, but I really don't know what good that'll do - it goes to the front desk, and I wouldn't even know what to say. Advice?

Updates are crucial to getting off the wait list so it sounds like you are on the right track. Calling may not be a bad idea if you are comfortable with it. They will usually tell you what your weaknesses were and what you need to work on. Sending updates that address those areas can go a long way towards getting off the wait list.

The average day is traditional classes from 8-12 with an afternoon lab or small group ~3/week (depends on current course though). There are quizzes or tests on either mondays or fridays and are between every other week to every week. The quizzes cover every class you are currently taking and are usually just a way for us students to assess where we are in terms of studying as they come every 20-40 lectures.

As for class scheduling, the first semester is several classes going at once (anatomy, molecular and cell biology, ethics, interview and physical exam) but then the second semester transitions pretty quickly to the systems based approach with only 1 class at a time. This schedule continues through the second year.

Lectures are recorded with audio and then a screen shot of the computer. (professors don't like themselves being recorded). I really liked the system as it captures anything on the computer including you tube videos, the mouse cursor, etc.. We are actually trying to go to a system where lasers pointers are replaced by a wireless presentation device that moves that mouse so that it is recorded as well. The whole system is good enough that missing class isn't a huge deal and some people primarily "attend" lecture remotely.

As for step 1 prep... I am just an m1 so i won't know everything. Creighton does all of their testing with board style questions on the computer to get us used to the format. They also provide a whole review series at the end of m2 year of just board review lectures. I know there is a lot more but I haven't really worried too much yet about tracking it down. I do know, however, that one thing you can always count on Creighton for is to give the students more help than they could possibly ever use.

The movement on the waitlist is a little bit hard to predict. For the class of 2013, there was almost none but that seems to be a fluke. The normal movement seems to be around 40-60 people give or take from what I have heard.

There have already been about a dozen people on the forum alone who have given up there spots so i would imagine at least some movement

Hey all,
Does Creighton accept community college credits? I took general chemistry at a community college and I wanted to make sure. Sorry if this has been asked/answered elsewhere.

Gave up my spot on the 15th, loved the school but in the end it came down to money, hopefully one of you will get the spot, good luck.

Accepted early this week off the waitlist. Going to give up the spot. Good luck!

How did they contact you? Call, email, snail mail? Thanks!

Wondering the same thing. The email said they wouldn't be sending out wait list acceptances until the second week of June, right?

Accepted off the waitlist last week. Received a call from Mr. Jarmon, followed by an email a day or two later.

Its hard to believe that Creighton would say that the first round of picks off the waitlist would go out in the middle of June and then start calling people before then I don't see the reason for them to lie. Anyways could you possibly post your stats or the date you interviewed?

Just saying, when I got the email asking to submit my Alternate List Response last month the first lines were:

"We hope you are enjoying the spring months. At this time the Office of Medical Admissions is preparing to review alternate students for acceptance purposes.

We plan to send out the first round of acceptance notices to alternate students during the second week of June."

For those of you who were accepted off the wait list last week, how long did they give you to make a decision?

I interviewed back on 2/11...I too was under the impression that they weren't going to be accepting off the waitlist until the 2nd week of June, so it was a surprise (but a very good one!)

I wasn't given a timeline to make a decision, but I haven't received my official packet yet. I'm sure that info will be included.

Just withdrew my acceptance to CU SOM.

Really hard decision. I hope one of you guys get my spot!

Thank you for posting Girl000 it gives us waitlisters hope. I have been waiting since September.

I was accepted off of the alternate list last week. So excited! Good luck to the rest of you hoping to get in.

I emailed the admissions yesterday and they said they accept people up to the first day of class. Hoping that we hear back before then, that would be pretty stressful while still good news.

Does anybody know if the waitlist has basically stopped moving by now?

Accepted off of the waitlist this morning. So excited! Fingers crossed to those still waiting. Looking forward to meeting everyone in the Fall!!

Question about calling on a Thursday afternoon:

I called during the "Open Door" hours today, was put through to voicemail, and left a message but haven't heard back. So I figure I won't be able to ask the question I have about my file until next Thursday? 😕 Has anyone else ever not had their call returned?

I called once in November and once in early May and Mr. Jarmon called back fairly quickly so it's not something I've experienced before. Maybe it happens a lot though, that's why I'm asking. Thanks!

You're better off making an appointment with either one of them. I left a VM during "open hours" too and never got my call returned about a month ago. But luckily I had an appointment set up for the following Wednesday otherwise I probably wouldn't have been in contact with Dr. Quinn. Anyhow, I would try that method.

Thanks GoZags. I'll be sure to make an appointment for next week. I feel bad being disappointed that they didn't call back because it's so awesome they even take the calls, but I was a little worried that I made an error in the vm I left. I feel a little better knowing it's happened from time to time. Thanks again! Good luck to you!

Nova- Are you on the waitlist? If so, I Would request to speak with Mr. Jarmon or Dr Quinn ASAP. They are both pretty friendly. When I couldn't reach Dr. Quinn during the Open Door time, I called back the next day and was able to speak with him.

Yes. I went to Creighton for undergrad. I have spoken with Quinn and Jarmon on the phone and in person. I left a message a while back via phone and they called back pretty quickly. It's odd that they didn't get back to you sooner. Good luck!

Does anyone know if there has there been any movement in the past 10 days?

When I spoke with Dr. Quinn on May 18, he had indicated that there had been hardly any people who gave up their spots on the 15th when people had to lock down their decisions. He said that movement would be slim this year off the waitlist, somewhere in the 20s versus high 60s last year. Sorry to be the bringer of bad news, but I just thought I would share that bit of information.

- 10000000000000 pts. 😉

I have nothing important to contribute other than that, AugustBurnsDan, if your name has anything to do with ABR you are awesome.

So for everyone who is still on the waitlist and did not get into medical school. Should we be re-applying now... or working on getting a masters degree.. or applying for a graduate program? should we be considering a D.O. program? Giving up our dreams or punishing ourselves for not getting in? The wait-list is so cruel. Someday after trying for four years when they finally see I will never give up. Maybe they will let me in?

With that type of determination, I have no doubt you will get in! As for me, right now I'm spending 12 hrs a day hitting the kaplan texts to prepare for battle the the kitty cat. Let's hope for the best:xf:
