Anyone know if the admissions committee will be meeting this week with Veteran's Day this Thursday?

I don't know if they are meeting but school is in session! I'll be interviewing that day! It sounds like the holiday won't be interrupting things

Emmm, I am getting impatient here

I got the final decision update the Friday before last (10/29) and it has been more than one week :xf:

Are they trying to teach us a lesson of being patient here cause mine is obviously running fast

I was all so impressed that it only took them one month to make their final decision...

Waitlisted. Letter came today, interviewed on 10/8. Declining the offer because I was super not impressed with the school (which was probably apparent in my interview). Good luck everyone!

Accepted today. First acceptance, 2nd year applying! Int 9-29. Status 10-28.

Woo. Acceptance packet came today after stressing over the final decision status for over a week.

I would like to extend a great big CONGRATU-F&%$IN-LATIONS!!!!!!!!!! Two years of applying to medical schools?!?!?!?!?! I can only imagine. Big props for sticking with it! It has and will pay off tremendously for you!

Use this opportunity not to satisfy your own ego... and relish in your own awesomeness, but instead, go out and make your life worth living! Focus on helping kids in africa, or guatemala, or compton... but whatever you do, dont end up one of those douche rich people driving a car worth more than 40,000 bucks and living in La Jolla just so you can tell your inner child you have made something of yourself and now your important. Make us truly proud and be meek and humble!!!!

Revel in your great great GREAT accomplishment!!! because you sir deserve the highest praise.

Then when medical school starts... get to work!!!!

I dont know you, but gosh darn it... Im proud of you!!! 🙂

I got my interview invite the other week and am scheduled to interview on January 13th. Anyone already interviewed there have any tips? Strange questions they asked you? Impressions of the school? Also, does anyone know of any hotels nearby that are good?

Congrats, engindoc! Glad you made it. 🙂

And congrats to you too, acp!

AsanteSana, the interviews (at least mine) were pretty laid back. We were in a group of about 15 ppl. We had a tour and info session early in the morning and then everyone had a 1-on-1 interview with a student and a faculty member. Remember both are important and be professional. If you are wondering about questions they may ask, don't forget the interview feedback pages (linked at the top of SDN pages) - a lot of people have contributed questions they've been asked and may have commented on where they stayed. I think you can also call and ask about student hosts, people were discussing this a lot earlier on the thread so I'd suggest going back and reading it.

😍
Accepted, letter came real late yesterday (11-08)
Interviewed 9-29
Status change 10-29 (assuming decision made 10-28 Thursday)
3.57sGPA 3.59GPA 31O MCAT Average research and clinical experience
This should be encouraging for folks with less than impressive stats 🙂

p.s. This is the fourth acceptance from the 9-29 crowd, that is indeed impressive:laugh:

That's great news - congrats to engin, acp, and sand!! And good luck to those of you with interviews scheduled!

So is it better to have no decision or pre interview hold???

What does pre interview hold mean? I've still got no decision listed as my status.

My classmate got pre interview hold and I still have no decision. I was wondering which is a better status to have. should I call them to ask whether my app has been reviewed or under review currently?
I'm under the impression that no decision is better, it seems like that means they haven't reviewed your app yet compared to a pre-interview hold where your app has been passed on once.

Yea I agree with above. From what I remember, I think it is pretty tough to get off of a pre-interview hold with so many applicants.

Agree with all of the above tips+

My student interviewer was intense, much more so than the faculty who was indeed very laid back. The cafeteria was somewhat noisy so be prepared.
Good luck😍

Has anyone tried to email the medstat to inquire about a status? I did a week or more ago with no response. I guess I will try calling. 😴

Congrats on the acceptances folks. A little bit of advice if I may...the period between being accepted and actually starting is arguably the best part of this whole process, so live it up. Take this opportunity to travel and be carefree while you can, because you just sold your soul to the medicine Gods...MWAHAHAHA! :meanie:

I called premed. I've had no decision since early August. If I remember she said that it meant they haven't gotten to our app. haha not sure how true that is. It feels like a rejection and not a hold. But hey I'm holding out to the possibility that this may mean a better chance of getting an interview.

+1
but then there's a separate status for "hold"? WHY IS IT TAKING SO LONG??:scared:

for the people who actually have been either waitlisted or accepted so far this semester, is the apparent theory of "final decision vs a decision has been reached" still consistent and true for this cycle?

I would like to not be stuck on the "6-8 weeks for a decision" status anymore.

Yes. I am a reapp from last year.

Last year I was WLed at drexel and I got "a decision".

This year, I got accepted and had a "final decision".

Anyone interviewing 11/19 and staying in Philly that night? Coming from Cali and never been to Philadelphia. PM me 🙂

Post-interview rejection. Letter arrived today.

How disappointing...

interviewed last week! I was very impressed and I'm feeling extremely good about the interview-- fingers crossed!

let me know if anyone has any specific questions about interviewing here

Interviewing here on Friday. I have questions about the essay, how long did it have to be and was it an ethical question? Also did they ask you any really ethical/political questions on the interview? THanks!! soo nervous!

why no love from you drexel? love me, love me, say that you love me. :scared:

I'm also at "no decision" and I've been complete since early August! :xf: to us "no decision" kids getting interview invitations this week!

There was no length given for the essay. You have one blank sheet of paper. Some people wrote a draft in a notebook, but I didn't think this was necessary. I think the questions were generally very simple and I wouldn't stress about the essay at all. They are generally ethical type questions (medical or academic), but nothing tricky. I don't think there is a right or wrong answer for many of the questions. Here is some general advice I have for ethical questions:

Explain your reasoning, and try to think beyond what the question is asking you. Think of the WHY when thinking about your answer. Not just WHY do you choose option A over option B (you must do this in your answer of course). Think about the possible causes leading up to the scenario, and how these factors might affect your actions. Things are not usually black and white--explore the gray area and put yourself in the shoes of the people involved. Be doctor-like and be compassionate and get more information. This applies to EVERY prompt, but they distract you from this by asking simple non-medical questions. I know that people were falling into this trap and losing a simple opportunity to shine to the excom.

Edit: I thought of a good example to show my point. This was from an admissions open house at the UW so I want to give them credit. The situation consisted of a patient who has been waiting on a transplant list comes to you and says they want to go to Thailand to get their transplant. What do you do? Wrongish answers: "okay, how can I help with that?" or "you shouldn't get a transplant in Thailand." Good answer components: find out why the patient wants a transplant abroad, why Thailand specifically, what they know about transplant safety in Thailand, and what info you can look up. Makes sense, right? Now, think of similar good responses to a person thinking about buying a car abroad. Now, think of similar things to think about when a friend tells you they want to rob a bank. Hopefully you are still thinking "why?" and "what are the underlying concerns?" and "how can I help this individual?". It's not a simple "do it/don't do it" or right vs. wrong question! This is the mindset can be applied to a number of questions. As far as I know none of these are Drexel questions, but this strategy will help.

I hope that makes sense--I'm trying not to give away too much info about their essay questions (which would be unethical) but still provide some useful general advice. During the day people were discussing their questions and answers and I heard varying approaches. Not all questions are straight up ethical. Some were personal and reflective and therefore my strategy does not apply.

Which reminds me, don't talk about your exact questions or answers to the other interviewees during interview day! Don't even be tempted!! PLEASE! There are many reasons--it's very unprofessional plus I may or may not have seen some cheating going on. There are plenty of other things to talk about! And you WILL be chatting a lot during the extensive down time. Tell a funny story, people will like that.

I would like to add that I spent about 10 minutes on my essay and I think it was pretty solid. Take it seriously, but don't stress about it! If you want to review bioethics, the UW has a FANTASTIC site here

Faculty interviews: Most seemed to be downtown at the hospital, so plan that you will be taking a shuttle ride there during the day. The shuttle is easy to find and they will tell you exactly when and where to go. I don't know why people make a big deal out of this. My interviewer was nice and the stress level was moderate. They were very interested in where else I was applying. There were no political or ethical questions.

student interviewers: they are not pre-determined and you have to hang out in a room with the other interviewees until a student is available. This part of the interview day was very random--you have no idea when someone will pop into the room and call your name. Also, some students seemed to be grillers. Mine was not at all. They talked a lot about the school and kept asking if I had questions. I had to take initiative to tell them about myself when it seemed natural--I can't really remember them asking me any direct questions. My student interview was VERY long (more than one hour!) and very conversational. So be prepared for every type of student: be ready to answer a bunch of questions, have a bunch of questions ready to ask (the "what's it like to be a Drexel student?" variety), and make sure they find out about your achievements and interests if they don't ask you directly! Keep in mind that school/life balance is important at Drexel. Make sure you know about the two curricula and which fits your learning style and WHY (with examples).

Well that was a lot. Oops. I hope it's helpful.

Thank you sooooo much tomh98! It was very helpful, and just hearing anything makes me a little more realaxed.

Interview invite!! 😀
No email, just a status change.

Mostly posting because when I scheduled, there were spots open this Thursday and Friday, next week and December 4 (first Saturday available). If people were looking for an earlier date they could call?

thisland, when were you complete?

anyone interview on 10/25 and have a status change???

addin' on to dis

Expect student interviewer waves to show up at 11:50-ish and 12:50ish, since that is when 1st and 2nd years will get out of class, respectively. There will definitely be people outside of those times, but those'll be the rushes that clear most folks out. I can confirm that you'll get all stripes of student interviewers. I've heard some of us ask some tough questions, but my style is more to ask a few personal questions and then get a sense of who you are based on the kinds of questions you ask, although I'm a pretty easy interview in general.

If you already know which curriculum suits you and why, then you're a better man than I was, Gunga Din. It definitely shows forethought, though, and a degree of introspection that speaks well of an applicant.

been complete since 9/17 and still no word..has anyone sent in a LOI or called to show interest and it helped?

Quick question for you guys. I interviewed here on October 12th, and my status this moment is the "your file is currently under review by the committee, no decision has yet been made" one. But I thought I remember hearing that they meet on Thursdays. is this true, and if so, does my status (it's "the committee, before it was by a member of the admissions committee but now its the whole committee") mean that they are looking at it DEFINITeLY today, or just soon? Thanks guys, and what time would that status change? I am just praying to see a final decision one, I am in the absolute dumps right now in terms of this med school ride.

i'm pretty sure my status changed to the "whole" committee and then to the "decision" in the same day

greenhat, it's possible that they could review your file today if you've got the "under review by committee" status. It'll depend on how many files are left from last meeting, and how many other new ones are ready for review. Basically, no one here is going to be able to definitively say that you will get reviewed today.

So keep your eye out for that status change! And remember that the letter will take 7-10 days to get to you, so this is only the beginning of the end of the wait. Hope you get good news!

Thanks for the input guys. Just checked and still the same status. Oh well, I'll keep waiting. And yes, I understand that this is only the beginning, because if somehow I get that final decision status, I know I'll immediately assume it could be a final rejection haha. Just give me one acceptance, just one, and I will be the happiest person on this entire forum. I gaurantee it.

Does anyone have any input on where to stay? I like the convenience of staying at a B&B near campus, but the down side is that there are no reviews to be found. I don't want to get there and have any surprises the night before the big day.

Any recommendations? The alternative is staying at a hotel further from campus and taking a cab to the interview.

Thanks!

I definitely suggest a hotel in Center City (you can use the Hotwire Hot Rate, the hidden hotel name one, to get a great deal). You won't need a cab to get to Queen Lane. The Regional Rail goes right from Center City to Queen Lane for I think around $7-9. And then the day/night before you can check out the city, and of course, being Philadelphia, get some fantastic food somewhere. Pretty much anywhere you get a hotel in Center City, it's a short walk to the RR.

I stayed at the Student Guest House, which is literally a block away from campus. It's owned by a family that is very nice and helpful. You get a bedroom and your own bathroom, not a lot of frills but everything you should need to get yourself a good night's sleep and up & out in the morning. The owner makes you a very tasty breakfast and then gives you a ride over to campus.

Basically, it was the easiest thing for me to do, was only $85 and was worth way more than that to me. No cabs, no trains, no hotel check-in, and breakfast included.

I highly suggest it!

PS Did anyone else here interview Oct. 18? My status still says "Your interview has been scheduled...."
