just submitted, now i wait 🙂

To answer your qu estion Prism, I would ASSUME that it's for GT undergraduates, or anyone who has a reason for having that number...It's not a required field, so don't give it too much stress.

Also, has anyone that submitted received a confirmation email? I noticed on the website that they said they will email us a confirmation...but I never got one?

I submitted on 6/12 and have not yet received a confirmation email.

On another note... I hope my essay was okay. I just tried to weave my response to "how will GT prepare me to be a physician in the future" part throughout my essay rather than explicitly saying "and this will help me because.." I guess I'll know in a couple weeks

How the heck did y'all get it submitted so quick?

I just received the 2ndary on 07/09 and finally proofread it enough times to submit it today.

Guess that puts me in the bottom of the pile. 🙁.

To answer your question, I knew the prompt was "why georgetown" so I brainstormed in advance...and wrote it alll out on friday when i had received it. By saturday, I had it proofread by two people and BAM submitted.

you did some "presearch"

you did some "presearch"

haha this "presearch" was mostly knowing the secondaries were sent out on friday afternoon..so I was like "oh crap"..gotta get a move on..and then I did, especially after receiving the invitation that evening 😛

:luck: to everyone!

I submitted yesterday and was thrilled to see that you can upload your essay...but then when I previewed the app pdf there were two blank pages preceding the essay. Did anyone else have that happen? Not a big deal, but the whole website was done pretty well so I was a bit surprised...

Yeah. Same thing happened to me. It's not a glitch. I think those pages would show up had you typed your response in the box. But if you upload, it will appear blank. When they print out your app, i'm sure they'll just chuck out these blank pages

I am terribly annoyed by their pompous discouraging first e-mail. Also, they will do a credit search on us first, basically to see if we can afford their over-rated, high priced education? No, no, I'm gonna pass on this one and go figure, I'm Catholic.

I read some evaluations on their school and most of them were dissatisfied with their experience there. Namely, their competitiveness and lackluster lectures.

Haha. I'll happily go to Georgetown, but since we're griping let me just add that the "why our school" secondary question is the most masturbatory of all prompts. They're basically saying "tell us how great we are." Um, I want to be a doctor and you'll give me an MD. Get a grip on reality, every medical school. 😛

I hope you realize every school will be doing a background check which includes a credit check. This isn't specific to Georgetown. Disclaimer I went to Georgetown undergrad, got accepted to the med school but I am at another med school. There is no need to disparage a school because of your perceived tone in an email.

I got accepted to GT last cycle, but ultimately turned it down based on some of your reasons. The grading system is H, HP, P, LP (only seen by the school, but will be a P on your transcript), and F. This school fosters competition, and the adcoms said it themselves during 2nd look. As for lecturers, some med students say it's a "mixed bag" (this isn't uncommon for med school). The curriculum also has mixed reviews. One of the med students said, "We complained enough that all the quirks should be worked out when you start school." Ultimately, my pet peeve about this school is the run down facilities. Some students say, you'll get a great medical education even if you study anatomy in the basement.

In my opinion, if a school is not willing to upgrade their facilities, then it's not investing its money in its students. Why should I pay an outrageous tuition to GT, when I can get a similar education at another school with top-notch facility and phenomenal instruction technology. That said, Mrs. Sullivan, the admission officer who will speak to you at the beginning of your interview day, will say that GT will only be a right fit for some and not for others.

My best advice is when you get invited for an interview, keep an open mind and picture yourself studying at this institution for four years. If you feel you can do well at this school, then attend. If not, attend another school.

GT SOM does not invest its money in its students. I have always wondered where my tuition goes.

Glad to know that you are aware of this.

It's all about personal preference. What are you looking for in a school? Don't apply just because you've heard of it and think that since you have around the stats, it'll be a good choice for you. Research a school, visit, talk to students in person (not ones whining over the internet) and find out for yourself if it's a good fit. For some, it won't be. For others, it'll feel like home.

Also, be weary of reviews/stats on a lot of this stuff. Vandy has one of the highest student satisfaction ratings with regards to competitiveness, curriculum, faculty, etc--yet, I know a student who goes there that says whoever evaluated that and came to those conclusions are crazy. He says half the class has to take adderall, is extremely uptight, and that their clinical rotations are awful--being that they don't hardly get any clinic time or experience. On the other hand, I'm sure I could talk to someone else with a completely different perspective in his class.

My point is... don't believe everything you hear. Visit the school and experience it for yourself and don't listen to whiny students on the internet (or my worn out and frustrated student with an disheartened perspective that probably isn't the norm). Especially here on sdn. If you haven't noticed, the average student on this site is an outlier with regards to being neurotic, anxious, and extremely negative--which is not the average mentality of a medical student. So be skeptical of advice on this site or others like it.

For the essay, how did you guys format the uploaded document? Single-space or double spaced? spaces between paragraphs or not? Justified text?

did anyone receive a confirmation email yet? or have their status updated from just saying "congrats! you've successfully submitted your secondary!"?

they apparently went through a reform in 08/09!? = S

anybody know why...😕

I know there's a 5 year MD research track. For that, is it possible to do research at the Lombardi Cancer Center? Thanks

Does anyone know if Georgetown has any connections or groups that take on a political role, like raising awareness for health policies or trying to lobby the government for changes? George Washington had some stuff on their website about that, just wondering if students at Georgetown also were politically involved. Thanks!

Yes, Lombardi cancer center is part of Georgetown University. You will actually find that all the buildings at the medical school are connected on the ground floor.

I called about the confirmation email. They said they're working on it now. If you log back in to the application you should be able to check whether your application was submitted. Also, the rep I talked to said I should be hearing back within the next few days about interview invite/rejection.

I would LOVE to hear anything from GU in the next few days!

woah when did you submit?

Does anybody know if GUSOM students can take classes outside the medical school? I thought I had heard that this was a possibility, but I can't find it on the website anywhere.

I'd like to make sure I didn't make this up...

Just wondering how long everyone else's essays have been? This is thus far the absolute longest character limit I've seen. For the other secondaries I've gone up to the limit on all the questions but this seems a bit excessive.

Haha. Brown has one essay that allows 6500 characters. I used up 6000 chars for that essay. I think I used up about 4500 characters for GUSOM's prompt.

i only used 2000. seemed sufficient.

You probably can, I think i've heard that too.

I used almost 5000.

Yes, you can take any class you want. If you're interested in gaining more business expertise, political, economic, foreign language, etc., you can enroll and take it. The undergraduate is extremely nice and offers just about any class you could ever want taught by some of the most influential and powerful people in DC and the country.

mine says the same thing as well, except 1:44:00 PM 🙂. hope it gets updated sometime!

Hey,

I hope everyone is doing good with this cycle so far.

I was just wondering if you thought it was appropriate for me to list my research and volunteer position that I started after I submitted my primary AMCAS, and therefore did not write about it.

You mean in the additional comments section, right? I think that it would be appropriate. I've been mentioning a summer program that I started after submitting my primary in any secondary that has an additional comments section.

About 3000.

Mine got updated today. Says just complete now instead of the transcripts and letters thing that was there. Maybe they'll decide on some interviews this week 🙂

Edit: Mine says 1:54:00 PM so I may be at the bottom of the pile by now, lol oh well
