I think 80% or something of all applicants are put in the CAP. I interviewed in September and I am in the CAP. So you are 80% interviewing for the CAP. People who interviewed this year have been getting in, but not the majority. I don't think your chances are any worse than someone who interviewed in the fall, I think they are actually interviewing you with hopes that you will be better than some of us CAPers. If you like the school, go for it!

This doesn't make sense. They only interview less than 10% of all applicants. Of that 10% they accept about 40% but only half take the acceptance leaving a class size of 20% of the people interviewed. If only half take an acceptance that means about half came from the cap list. So if you were to recalculate that... I guess you could choose a maximum of 80% of all interviewed get on cap assuming they don't reject postinterview (giving a true max). This would mean that they accept 2% of all applicants and cap 8%. 8% is high because they do reject many post interview.

so if we're interviewing mid feb are we interviewing for a spot on the waitlist? 🙁

Of people that interview, a TON are put on the CAP. Of those people, you basically have to further express your interest to actually get in (ie be offered acceptance). Clear?

I didn't have a calculator in hand, sorry!

Geez, still silence from the admissions office...

i heard from a couple of friends that theyre undergoing an LCME accredition thing or soemthing. could explain why nothing seems to be moving

+1; Mrs Sullivan told us at our interview day that if you're CAPped, then they basically won't look at your application again unless you write them a letter saying why you want to go to Georgetown, etc. :luck: to those still waiting!

I hope that's the case. Or that there's some other legit reason. Because I've sent them 2 LOI's and 2 more letters of rec, and I'd like to think they're at least reading them and considering me!

Hi everyone! I have good news for those who were CAPped ... I was CAPped and I received a phone call today telling me I was accepted! I am incredibly excited and wish you all the best, too. I interviewed in November.

congrats janelle. Afte you posted, I checked my status and for some reason my CAP letter on my status page disappeared. did this happen for you as well. anyways, im really happy for you!

Thanks! My status message has been updated to accepted. I don't know if the CAP message disappeared before that - I didn't check.

I was accepted from the CAP today! Received the email of the admission decision at 10 pm PST.

Congrats everyone! Ok I sent in a couple of letters, so :xf: I get that email/phone call soon too! Also, when did you send in your LOIs, if I my ask?

Best of luck to you! I sent my letter around January 20th.

congrats to the people accepted off CAP! That gives hope to the rest of us!

Would you guys mind posting some of your stats?
# LOIs sent?

Accepted. Got the email last night at 10pm pacific time. Sent LOI Nov 15th, normal gpa and mcat.

I sent in my LOI in January sometime, a day or two after I got the CAP letter. I looked for a facebook group as well and couldn't find one. Let me know if you create it because I would love to join!

do we have to write a physical letter and mail it to the admissions office? or would adding a letter as a word document to the post-secondary application updates online be sufficient? 😕

Based on personal experience, do not send a physical letter. Or if you do, make sure you also send an electronic copy via email to Mrs. Sullivan and/or by uploading it to the website as a word doc. But I think just adding the word doc online would suffice. Good luck!

sorry for not answering sooner guys. i sent my LOI in november. my stats (MCAT/GPA) are right at the median.

Alright, I just finished writing update letter/letter of interest number 3 for Georgetown. Please please please accept me!!!!!! :xf:

I sent the letter in an email to Mrs. Sullivan only. Do you guys think it matters whether the file is also uploaded into the online file system? (It doesn't appear that the admissions office adds it to the online system if you send it directly as an email)

I don't think it matters; I think you'll be fine. Did Mrs. Sullivan send you a reply email saying she got your letter and placed it in your file? (But if there's any doubt, you might just upload it too, just to save yourself any potential worry. 🙂)

Thanks - She said she'd give it to Dr. Lauerman, but not necessarily put it in my file.... so being totally neurotic! It's Upload time!!!!

Has anyone who was pulled of the CAP received anything in the mail about second look, or anything at all?

Has anyone who was pulled of the CAP received anything in the mail about second look, or anything at all?

I haven't heard anything, I called last week and asked about second look and they said they were updating the web info, so hopefully we should get some notification soon, because I'm getting anxious!! So excited to go back!!

anyone else interviewing for a spot on the waitlist with me in March?

i wonder if any current georgetown med students can comment on this. i was looking at some of the second year modules and it seems like all of them are graded pass/fail only instead of H/HP/P/LP like in first year. is this correct?

Ok, I'm thinking (hoping) that some more CAPers will be accepted this week... Mrs. Sullivan mentioned something in an email about sending letters no more than every 3 weeks, so I have a hunch that that's how often they review the CAP. And the first group of people were pulled up from the CAP three weeks ago this Thursday... so maybe? This could be wishful thinking, but I think there's a chance some of us could be hearing some good news this week. :luck: :xf:

just found out, rejected post-interview. interviewed 2/02

Hey guys, I interviewed on January 10 and haven't heard back. What do you think this means? Should I email admissions or Mrs. Sullivan?

know a couple of gtown M2s.. pretty sure they are still H/HP/P/LP.

I realize this is from a couple days ago and you may have already emailed her, but I'd say that if you're stressing about it, it wouldn't hurt to email. Mrs. Sullivan is usually really helpful and gets back to you pretty quickly. It could mean anything that you haven't heard back yet (your interviewer couldn't make the committee meetings, etc.), so don't fret, but if you're wondering you might as well shoot them an email. Good luck!

Edit: Also, I guess yesterday wasn't the day they'd accept more people off the CAP... le sigh.

Hey guys, I'm an out-of-stater currently with a car. I was wondering if it would be cheaper EITHER to live out of the city and bring my car to commute OR to live close to the school and use the Metro as my primary means of transportation (and leave/sell my car) ??

I don't live in DC currently but am pretty familiar with the city and talked to some students about this issue.

I was reading the info from Gtown and it looks like they don't have parking for M1s and M2s. So, you would need to find another place to park nearby. That is probably possible but another thing to think about (and probably not cheap either).

From what I've heard, it's best to live close to campus. It's nice to be close to campus because you are there so much, but I also heard that it is a good thing for social reasons too since most people live near the school (the student I talked to said social reasons outweighed other reasons). There is no metro to Gtown, but there are some buses to the surrounding areas and the close metro stops (that aren't too far, they are walkable if you like that sort of thing/have time). No metro in Gtown kind of is a bummer, but it's not too bad to get around. And if you do the metro commute thing, you can pretty much live anywhere near a metro stop, which is good if you are really trying to save as much money as possible. But again, that could come at a social/convenience cost.

I can't tell you what to do, but the recommendation I've heard is live close to the school so you could walk or take the bus (or metro and bus if you live a bit further out). That may make a car harder for the first two years, but it sounds like having a car for the last two cars is important, so I wouldn't sell your car.

Hope that helps, and hopefully someone a bit more familiarity with the area can jump in too and add anything more.

This is an issue I'm debating too.

Georgetown also runs shuttles pretty frequently out to the Dupont Circle and Rosslyn Metro stops. I used them to get to/from my interview and it was pretty easy.

In my opinion, any place with decent public transportation (that is, rail: NYC, Boston, DC, Chicago) obviates the need for a car. Spring for a Zipcar membership for the few occasions you may want to use one.

Hi guys, I'm trying to decide between Georgetown and my state school (a UC) and was wondering if any current students could answer 3 simple questions I have. Just trying to see if the $80,000 difference is worth it.

1. Georgetown has relatively large class sizes--is there just more to love, or do people tend to cluster into groups without really getting to know everybody?
2. Is there really time to explore DC? I'm dying to get out of CA for once in my life, but if I'll be studying in my room all day...
3. Is it easy for students to participate in multiple international programs 4th year?

They're not big questions, but could tip the scale one way or another. Thanks!

Hey I'm currently an M1 also from CA.
1. Gtown has a really big class size. 200 med students + 200 masters students (for most classes). I would say I recognize around 90% of my class mates but have a smaller group of friends/study partners. There are a lot of social events so you can meet as many people as you want to. Overall there are no benefits in my opinion to having this large a class size and it detracts from small group learning. Besides the cost of attendance, this is our biggest weakness in my opinion.

2. I also came from CA and was dying to get out for the next few years. I think it depends on the person but I have loved living in DC. There is so much to do and see (much of which is free) and it is a completely different feel than LA or San Francisco. You have more than enough time to get out and see the city if you plan your schedule accordingly. I would really recommend getting out of CA if you haven't before for med school or residency.

3.I have no idea about this one per se but I know a lot of 1st years that are going to India, Africa, South America and other places during this next summer. 4th year is notoriously easy and chill so I don't see any reason why you couldn't do something then. They have a lot of grants and aid to help you as well.

Overall Gtown is a great school and I do not regret coming here for one second. We have a great curriculum and a well known reputation for turning out excellent doctors (our match list shows this). But you should be smart about your choice, we cost a lot compared to UC's and are not without our own problems (huge class size, not out of this world basic science research, expensive location...). I chose to come here after getting enough financial aid to make it comparable to the cost of attending a UC I had been accepted to. I really loved gtown and when the cost was evened out, I knew it was the right choice.

thanks for the helpful response vitty. agreed, the match list is beyond impressive. if there's anything else prospective students should know about georgetown's academic & social life before making a decision, please share. would be much appreciated. how's the dating scene, for instance 😀 really. with all that studyin' you need some lovin'

Hey all, has anyone seen this year's match list? I'm curious what it looks like, as it was definitely a big selling point for the school.

Yeah, I just saw it last week. We had a lot of people going into ortho (like 25), 6 going into neurosurgery (one at Mayo), a couple derm, a lot of radiology, then the usual rest of the breakdown. Most went on to big schools, in particular, U Chicago, Harvard, and Stanford. I don't really understand how we match so well. We are a great school and all but we tend to match much much better that would be expected by rankings. Hopefully this keeps up till I graduate. Anyone thinking about gtown should really look at the list and take that into consideration when making your decision.
