I though it would be. I grew up in Indiana, graduated from high school there. I did go to college in another state, and I work in St. Louis now. I did send them a letter explicitly stating my desire to return to the state. I suppose that wasn't enough.

I never got anything in the mail... but I just received an email with supplementary material it says to complete and mail in before my interview. Should I assume my mailed packet will soon follow? Or are they switching from snail mail to email this year?

I also got that email from OOS.Pretty happy about that

Yeah, me 3... pretty pumped!~! I didn't get anything the last 2 weeks so I kept my fingers crossed, and to my delight this morning.... I got an email and its not a rejection.

I'm a non-trad with MS in engineering and 10yrs of work experience, OOS.

The three posters above me. Do you have strong ties to the state? I'm starting to think the "strong ties" theory is a pretty weak, considering how swimerbear's tie is as strong as it gets and that still didn't cut it for them.

I have never even had the pleasure of visiting Indiana, unfortunately.

I've also never visited the state... I actually thought I would be rejected as others have alluded to earlier. I dont think it makes any sense in swimbear's scenario because he definitely should have even been considered "in-state"... I actually think its the luck of the draw.

http://www.medicalschoolsinusa.com/

If you look at the website link (and click on Indiana University), it says that they interview ~349 OOS per season and actually accept ~179, so its definitely not impossible. Rather than simply numbers alone... I believe they try to find a fit for their school which is probably not the same as that of other schools. Besides that, i think it's about luck & perseverance - which is what this whole process seems to be about.

Good luck with your other schools... you'll definitely get into the school you want.

I think that's a good point. They certainly do interview a lot of OOS'rs. The problem is that they are much less transparent about what they want from OOS applicants since there is no secondary or real way to indicate interest, and little way to show them you are a good fit.

I got it too. I take it they are switching over to email now, which is more convenient anyway.

Agreed. Today I talked to a friend of mine who will be attending IU as an M1 this year, she said everything was done by email excluding the final acceptance letter which was by snail mail.

If I'm instate and meet the minimum requirements to be eligible for an interview should I be worried if I haven't received an e-mail yet?

How close to the minimum requirements are you? I'm IS as well and just got my rejection e-mail this past Monday, fall just below sGPA minimum though unfortunately. But according to the numbers 563/675 IS students got an interview last year, so you should probably get that far at least. I wouldn't worry. Good luck.

I am well above the minimum requirements.

3.6/3.5 and 30S.

I should expect my e-mail any day, correct?

REJECTED!

First one of (hopefully) a few.

Oh well. Saves me time and money on a secondary. Maybe I can take a day off.

Does the E-mail saying "The required materials should be in your application prior to your interview." mean that I'm going to get an interview for sure? Or does it just mean that I'm not rejected yet and they'll decide about the interview later. They should definitely make that more clear 😛

Congrats Dude, that means you will get an interview, granted that you return the forms within 30days... one of the form needs to be returned within 10days, so get on it. Once all that is done, you'll then get the secondary application (8/5/2010). After you complete the secondary apps, a date will be sent to you for the interview - I believe this is what happened last year.

Good Luck man.

will there be some kind of online status check later? I already sent in the 3 required forms (LOR form, Legal, and Deans eval). It says we need to send in transcripts at the end of every grading period. Do we need to send in one from last spring? those grades were already amcas verified, so I am confused about this part.

I think you need to send in transcripts with new grades, so I wouldnt worry about the ones from last spring if they have already been verified by AMCAS.

By the way, were we supposed to mail in the LOR form? Its in the email, but it is not part of the numbered list of things that we have to send. They receive the letters through AMCAS, so I dont see what purpose that form could possibly serve.

yeah, I saw that too... but I sent it with my other forms since it lets them know which teacher would be science, non-science and personal eval, since your AMCAS doesn't have that information....

I noticed with some of the other schools I apply to, they are still asking for us to send LORs directly to them... I just figure that they are just too lazy to update their forms since they already have the LORs through AMCAS... so it's probably same situation..... i guess.

For those of you invited to complete the suplimental package and haven't paid your fees, the secondary form is now available online at

http://www.iupui.edu/~gradoff/admissions/

You'll need to complete it an pay your dues... just completed mine today. The admission's office says there might be a bug with the website though, because it lets you complete the secondary, but waives the secondary fee. But you can always in the mean time complete you secondary while the bug is being fixed.

Cheers... 😱

Where did you go after clicking on that link? I'm not seeing anything that says IU Med, etc... and I don't want to fill out the wrong thing. Is it the "online application" that is under the lefthand admissions tab?

Thanks.

That's correct, you click on the "Online Application"... create an account and once you start filling it out, you'll eventually be able to select the MD program...

I had the same feeling as you, so I had to contact them to know what to do...their original email had said, go to this website on 8/5/10, but it wasn't explicit enough on what we had to do exactly. I wish it was just a lil clearer from the beginning.

Got it- thanks a lot!

Dang, I'm not an EDP, but my interview was scheduled for 8/25 (2PM) from 12:15PM to approx 5PM.... I thought it would be mid September....

Oh wells.. wish me luck. IUSM is a good school...

Interview at IUSM scheduled for 8/25 at 10:15 AM!

Likewise - 8/25. That was...fast. Especially since I didn't give them my other letters of recommendations, because my undergrad sent the wrong ones. GFG

Don't understate it, IU is a great school. The statistics alone make it great. That and the downtown campus is amazing

Should I try to reschedule the interview? I usually see in the emails that if for any reason I am not able to make it, I could reschedule, but I didnt see anything on this one about that.

I fully agree with you... it's a great school; the best glimpse I have on the campus was on maps.Google.com:: can't wait to see it in person...

They have a really good website though, I've been through... I've been able to learn a lot about the school, so I should have something to say during the interview, lol. 😀

you can reschedule because it says in the email that "Please confirm your intent to attend the scheduled interview by emailing us at [email protected]. "

So you can write back to re-schedule. I wish my interviews are all in one week; so as to just knock em out of the way all at once.
Anyways, good luck.

Yea, I wish I could get them out of the way in one week also, but I am from Houston. So it will be from Houston to San Antonio, fly out from SA to Indianapolis, and then fly to Lubbock, and fly back to Houston. Getting expensive with all the flying, and I was intending to drive to both SA and Lubbock.

Definitely reschedule. And don't worry, they're not a rolling admissions based school, so you're not screwing yourself over.

Actually, they said it is really hard to reschedule, and I would be put on a waitlist to interview at an other time if I cant make it on the 25th. However, being on the waitlist does not guarantee that Ill get an interview at a later date.
I was able to change my interview on the 27th for another day, so I think its going to work out.

I'll also be in attendance on the 25th. Best of luck everyone!

Who the fk did you talk to? That's the dumbest thing I've heard, EVER. Sorry bout that

Hello, I am wondering if anyone can help me out with a quick question.

On the Letters of Evaluation form of IUSM's "secondary," what do I put down if my letters of eval are being sent as a letter packet from my school's professional letter service? One suggestion I've heard is to put "Letter Packet" on all three categories, but I would like a second opinion for confirmation.

Thanks.

Its alright... I understand if they have everything scheduled very tightly.

On another note- would it be a good idea to drive 1200 miles to Indiana the day before the interview? I hate flying, not from fear of it, but from so much hassle of everything that entails airports and renting cars.
I think i might be renting a car in Houston and putting like 3500 miles on it in a week.
Houston->San Antonio->Indianapolis->Lubbock->Houston
hahah, sounds like a hell of a road trip.

1200 miles in one day seems like a bad idea.

Congratulations to all OOS interview invites!

Just wanted to make an offer.

I live in downtown Indianapolis, which is approximately a 10 minute walk to the medical school.

I am more than welcome to allow someone to crash on my couch.

Just PM me if you are interested.

Good luck!:luck::luck::luck:

Driving 1200 miles before one of the biggest interview in your life is definitely not a good idea. I'm from Dallas (850miles from IND), but no way in hell I'll make that drive.

If you have a day to spare, you may as well use it to relax and get your game face on.

Thanks for the offer SeizeFate, I'll just be in that morning and out that late night. Can't be taking too much time of work. Don't want them having suspicions about me not wanting to work at Texas Instruments anymore - so I'm only taking minimum time off.

Terrible idea. More **** can happen while driving than flying. Besides, Indianapolis airport is not hard to navigate or a nightmare. It's too straightforward:laugh:

got the request for supplement package. just got an interview. if people want stats

had patent, publications, conferences, and other stuff.

may give hope to OOS with strong grad school stuff.

got the interview invitation. 😀 in the email, it says there'll be a tour at the end starting from 12:15pm. How long does the tour last? I just want to know what is an appropriate time for a return flight? I don't want to book a ticket that leaves when I am still touring the campus. Thanks a lot.
