What do you think the MCAT standard deviation is for IS and OOS acceptances at IU?
I'm trying to understand exactly how my MCAT score compares with my in-state comrads. (29).

got the interview invitation. 😀 in the email, it says there'll be a tour at the end starting from 12:15pm. How long does the tour last? I just want to know what is an appropriate time for a return flight? I don't want to book a ticket that leaves when I am still touring the campus. Thanks a lot.

I ended up deciding against driving. I booked a flight out of Indiana at 8pm. Hopefully that will give me enough time to get to the airport on time.
Actually, I have been meaning to ask this question. Is 8 a good time to fly out?

Does anyone who has received the "secondary" know if it asks for residency info or mention at some point proving residency? I am currently IS but have been offered a job in Michigan, do you think I would lose my residency? Some people I have asked said as long as a keep my drivers license and voter registration here its ok that I move away temporarily for employment. FYI IUPUI's office is very unhelpful regarding residency questions.

Tough one. I think that since some states require 1 years employment before you're considered a resident, you're technically a resident of Indiana.

I have heard this over and over again. Apparently that is the norm with schools offices that deal with residency.

Sorry if this has been answered (I haven't seen it), but how do we get the interview date? I got the email with supplementary materials and I filled out the online app and paid my fee today, but I didn't know if they waited till they've received all the different forms to give out a date. Thanks for any help!

Yeah, I figured the school did that. I was asking if they waited till they've received all the other materials before setting a date.

I don't think they wait to get everything before they send you interview dates...I sent all my stuff out immediately except for the dean of evaluations, but I got the interview invite on same day that last form was sent out;

the day I got the interview was also the very next day (8/5/10) I filled out the online form on their website.

One strange thing though, I didn't get to pay the fee because the web-page had an issue. I reported this problem to IUSM and they said they'd fix it and let me know how to pay, but I haven't heard anything from them since. Maybe they want to bite me on that "ethics" thing.

In any event, if I were you... I'd get all that stuff out to them asap, so you dont look bad.

Alright cool, thanks for the info.

You guys getting ready for the interview next week???

I was calm this past week and half, but now I'm nervous about it; and nothing seems to be sticking in my brain, I think filling out all those secondaries have fried my brain.

What is the earliest anyone has interviews? Mine is next Wednesday, and I am starting to get nervous :scared:

I wonder what kinds of questions we can expect...anyone have friends at IU that have said anything about the interview process? I'm hoping its more conversational and a get-to-know-you style, especially since this is my first one...I'd hate to make a fool out of myself in the first ten minutes or something 😛

This is also my first interview (August 25th). Does anyone know whether we are supposed to bring a notepad or folder of some sort to the interview? This applies to IU and to all interviews in general. I want to be able to take notes, but I don't want to be carrying something around if it will just be in the way, or not needed. Thanks!

Congrats to everyone who has received interview invites, especially so early! Any out of staters that received invites? Also, I am assuming early early invites mean good chance of acceptance?
And I wonder how many spots they have this year...

I was planning on bringing a leather bound notebook to take notes with. I don't think it's necessary, but it might be helpful to collect any handouts or jot down things as we go.

My undergrad. advisor just attended a conference for pre-med advisors there last week, and she said they were expecting to accept ~340 this year. I was under the impression that they were going to continue cutting down the class size due to budget cuts, but I guess they ended up accepting ~320 last year as well. Don't hold me to it, since things like this can change, but it makes me think that expansion plans must still be underway.

I just checked last year's blog (on the last page) and it seems that they really accepted about 320 students when all was said and done. So an increase should bode better for us this year.

Wolff313, good to see you on this site again... saw your name quite a bit on last year's blog... they are starting interviews extra early this year - don't know what that means though because last year, they had early decision on 9/2/09 and then the 1st date for everyone else was 9/16....

... but it seems that this year, both EDP and regular applicants are being interviewed next week Wednesday, which was diff from last year.

btw.. I'm on OOS and got my invite on the 1st day they were sent out. I applied early, non-trad, URM with MS in Engineering (in my past life starting from next year, hopefully). Average MCAT, but lower than their average GPA... maybe the URM thingy helped with the OOS invite though.

The interview was fine - they're not trying to trip you up or grill you, just get to know you (in my experience). Just be ready to tell your story. There will probably also be an ethics-type question. Good luck!

Look at the interview feedback link on this site. It's immensely helpful

Sup all, OOS here. I guess I'll be seeing some of you on Wed!

rejected, but realized you need a permanent resident visa to get an interview OOS/Canadian (34N, 4.0)

Interview today was very low key - much more of a conversation than an interrogation. Reading up on interview feedback beforehand was really helpful, as the questions didn't change much at all.

Also, the projected number of students to be accepted this year was announced as 328, which came directly from the horse's mouth.

Asked me about the mosque at ground zero. I was expecting an interview ala the Departed with Billy Costigan:laugh:

That was one fun interview... I enjoyed every minute of it.

"Do you think our enemy as physicians is death?? Is it something that we should always prevent. What do you think about Euthanasia? Why Medicine after all these years as an engineer? Why IU?" what was your greatest challenge aside from anything on your PS? where do you see yourself in 10years? and lots more..." all the questions were asked in very relaxed conversational way though with moments of laughter and then of seriously. we also talked about Melanoma and somehow got on the subject of boob surgery - which was a little awkward... I'm guessing not for them though....

Oh yeah, looking at the cadaver was awesome. 😱

October can't come soon enough....

Well, can you snag me a couple TI-83/86s and bring em here?:meanie:

Sorry, i forgot to bring you the calculators 😀.....

I think we were probably in same group, because the guy walking us around wanted us to tough the the cadaver too... mine was the 4th year student who said he started his education 7yrs too late (and has got 2kids)

Yep, same guy. Glad I don't have to juggle all he has to deal with!:scared:

Congrats on your interview! Now, do you mind sharing your wonderful wisdom? My interview is this Wednesday, Sept 1!! I happen to be OOS, Michigan actually. I am curious to know how OOS stated why Indiana. I understand the interview feedback is available, but I would love to hear the trend of questions thus far. If you feel like sharing, please do, as I will after Wednesday!

Also, has the $50 application fee bug been exterminated? When I filled out the Graduate school application about a month ago the fee waive aka. the bug was alive and well.😱
I wonder if we are supposed to fill out another one, if the application went through but the fee didn't/
In essence, I would have filled out 2 grad school applications... Let me know if any of you are in my shoes, or have any advice. 🙄

I haven't read this entire thread so forgive me if this question has been asked... Does IU consider all of an applicants MCAT scores or just the most recent or best?

I am currently a sophomore, but I figured this was a good place to ask that question.

Thanks

They asked me why I took it twice in the interview, so I take it that they look at both. My assumption would be that they put the greatest emphasis on your highest score, however. Remember that if you are OOS you will have a different threshold of scores necessary to get an interview than would an IS applicant.

As I understand it I'm essentially guaranteed an interview since I just got the secondary packet?

OOS

Yups... OOS here too; and that's correct, you'll have an interview in a little over a month-ish...👍

Great, looking forward to seeing friends back in Indy (significant ties, probably part of why I got the packet)

My interview on the 25th was pretty painless! Hope this helps to curb people's anxiety.
I agree with the others, they asked pretty much what you would expect... why IU, why medicine, clarification/elaboration of your AMCAS responses.
Also, I would advise interviewees take a good look at IU's website😉
Good luck to everyone!

Hey all! New to the thread. I just got a supplemental packet on friday. Couldn't be more happy because I thought I was just waiting for a rejection. I figure they like my odd story. Anyways, ok so you go online an fill out the grad form and pay, then send out the info. They emailed us an that's it right?

Hey ya'll! Some recent life developments have not only added IU to my list (I'm waay OOS) but also rocketed it toward the top. I just have a question about the letters of evaluation: I understand they want personal and academic evaluations, but is there any sort of leeway with these? Would a letter packet with evaluations from profs that have known me for 2+ years (one of whom I've had for 5 courses) suffice? Or do I need to scramble to get a more personal eval before I apply?

Thanks!

You need a personal evaluation. It shouldn't be too difficult to find someone who knows you on a personal and can talk about some of the qualities asked about in the evaluation form.

Sidenote -
They didn't asked me about the healthcare reform, so I asked the interviewer at the end. We both landed on the same page 👍

I actually used one of my professors for my personal evaluation... since he taught me in my 5 classes, I had a research project with him and he was also my graduate adviser.... he might not qualify if he simply talked about my academics, correct??? if so, I need to find another one fast.

Thanks for the quick response! Will they contact me if they deem my letter packet to be missing a personal evaluation? I only ask because I'm a bit later in the game in applying to IU, and I'd rather not have to hold off on applying for 2-3 weeks to give my letter writer time to complete the evaluation. Or would it be better to submit my primary and add the letter later?

I wondered if anyone else ran into problems with letters of recommendation. I just had an additional letter submitted to AMCAS for I.U. Apparently I.U. only downloads the letters that you indicate on the supplemental sheet. I assumed that those letters were required and that they would also download all of the letters that you selected for I.U. on the AMCAS application. I interview tomorrow, so they will only have 2 out of my 5 letters of recommendation. Any advice?

I don't think the LOR has any bearing with regards to the interview... the guys who interviewed me only looked at my AMCAS application and asked questions from there.... as I understand they are not part of the ADCOMS... you just spill your guts and they'll advocate you to the admissions committee. Your file will not be reviewed by the admissions committee for a little while (I believe), so if I were you, I'll contact Sarah in the admissions office to have her download your information.

BTW, good luck on your interview. 👍

Ouch. IU really is harsh with OOS. :/ When did you guys submit your primaries to IU?

Hey! I sent off my secondary packet yesterday. How do I approach this interview? Im very shocked to have gotten one. Im OOS and URM.
