seriously? 🙁 was this by status change? what are your stats?

I'm getting nervous as my 'secondary has been received - waiting on LORs, etc' for quite a while now. All my LORs have been in since 7/19.

sorry, DocBell - hope you have more luck at other schools - crossing my fingers for the both of us!

I am a lower tier applicant. 30+ MCAT but my science gpa is a below 3.5. I do have good EC's and I am a double major but that apparently isn't good enough to make up for my gpa so far this cycle. No email just checked my status and there it was. Stings a little.

Weird about your LOR's. Seems like they should have downloaded them by now. I am sure they will get too it soon though and be dazzled by all the nice things they say. Good luck :luck: at Loyola and if not here then hopefully we both get in somewhere else!

Interview invite! (phone call!). Complete about a week ago.

I love the school and have some friends attending there. They love it. Good luck to all!

This is soooo...sooo... weird, I wrote them about getting a status change.. .but that my status looked like what I saw 2 days ago..and they sent this "Hi, there was a change yesterday. The status prompt is the same as the previous status because our review process is ongoing."

So does that mean, I'm in re-review??? 😳

Why would they send a status change when it's the same as previous... as if we premeds weren't neurotic enough; they will give me a heart attack, cos I was checking every 5mins yesterday until I could muster some strength to go to sleep. 😴

I got the same email without an actual status change on the site. I called the admissions office and they told me that the admissions committee had reviewed my file but were holding onto it to review later in the year AKA on hold.

So it is like a "re-review", or "large pooled", or "HOLD".... or whatever else, .... bummer, I think they should call it such rather than just "under review" if they've already reviewed it and don't think it's good enough yet.

I'ma keep hoping for the best... :-/ :xf:

Thanks for checking though, I can relax now and stop checking whether the status would really be updated. lol.

How long were you under review for before you got this rejection and if you don't mind my asking why do you say you figured? Why do you think you had no shot. I'm just trying to figure out how long it can be til I am expected to hear something. i don't remember how long it took last time.

Just a hunch/ I am a naturally pessimistic person and some of the people already rejected had better stats. I got my secondary the 8th of july turned it in a week later and was complete within the next week. So I have been under review for over a month. I guess I would rather know now than a rejection letter in May though.

Good luck:luck::luck::luck::luck:

I got the semi-dreaded status-change-without-status-change email... Hopefully it just means they're considering me this time around, haha!

Anyone still waiting for the secondary? Had everything in for like 5 weeks

Haha, well good luck! I haven't heard anything in awhile. When were you complete?

I just got that status-change-without-status-change email too.

Yep, same.

I think it is a very delayed "Your file is complete" email. My status did change a week or two ago from incomplete to complete, but I never heard anything from them. Pretty sure everyone's heart skips a beat when they see that email.

I got my secondary invite on the 2nd, which is one month after my AMCAS was verified. I was happy because that meant I'm not out of the running for Loyola yet, but also pretty bummed because of the loooooong essays I am now sitting down to write 🙁

I feel like I addressed about three of the questions in my personal statement. Should I just elaborate on the stories or should I find different things to talk about?

Lol question. I have yet to complete this secondary.

My application is more research focused (Led a head injury study for 2 years). I do have other ECs (martial arts/badminton), but I don't have too much volunteering other than having around 200 hours in a medical office for like 2 months.

Is it even worth it for me to apply here? My GPA is 3.9 and MCAT is a 32. From what I heard about the collegial environment at Loyola, it is one of those schools that I would really be happy to get into.

Apply! Those stats are top notch and as long as you have some interesting ECs to go with that research (like martial arts/badminton) you should have a great shot. We need more research people (or at least, I'd like to have more around... lol). Apply! 🙂

Definitely. It's ok to mention the same things, just elaborate and focus it more towards the prompt and you'll be good to go.

Ugh I just got the status change email without having a changed status. My last status change email was to notify me that I was complete... so I was expecting either an interview invite or a rejection and then BAM nothing. That was definitely an adrenaline rush haha!

Does anyone know if they re-review the applications? I submitted my secondary on 8/6 and around 8/17 I got denied an interview. But I emailed them to say that I have new mcat scores that were just released on the same day of the status change and they said that they will present my application again to the committee. I dont know if that will ever happen.

It will definitely happen. Even if you didn't have new MCAT scores, they re-review apps on a regular basis. More regularly if you have updates/new scores, if you get what I mean. 😉

Ok I really hope so because I was excited when I got my secondary with my crappy old score, so I am hoping they will review it again soon since I have been complete for three weeks now.

after reading this thread, i'm getting kind of nervous. Illinois is one of top choice schools. I have significant ties to illinois like my birth, residence for six years, and family, but thats not stated in amcas...

Verified 8/28 and no reply yet...
3.66s 3.74c 31L - from the marticulant stats I look competitive....

I'm pretty sure your state and county of birth are listed in AMCAS so I think they'll see it 🙂

Not that it'll make you feel better, but I was verified a full month before I heard a peep from them. They like to take their time, I suppose.

This happened to me too (I posted about it earlier in the thread) and it seems like it's happening to a lot of people, anyone know why or if it means anything?

Write them a letter if you don't hear back in a week and a half. Include what activities you've done since, your new scores, any new grades since submitting your AMCAS, and of course, 1 or 2 lines (that's all) of how much you'd like the opportunity to interview there.

Regardless of if you were actually referring to Loyola or UIC (very different story at both schools), your stats look almost exactly like last year's mean for Loyola, FWIW.

Umm...so...it is Thursday. If I were to call them today, would I be able to find out things like if my application has been reviewed at all? What else could I potentially find out or ask about? Has anyone else called on a Thursday, and if so, what was it like? Was the staff annoyed at you?

I called in early August to check if my application was complete, and he downloaded my letters right then and changed my online status!

I was thinking about calling too... I've been complete for awhile with no email/status change or anything

Ok I will do that next week if I dont hear anything from them, thank you for the advice. I emailed them once and the reply had the typical answer that they will review it anytime from now until april.

When you send it, put "Update Letter" in the subject heading and send the letter as a PDF attachment and tell them that attached are updates to your application and nicely ask for them to add it to your file. That makes it clear you aren't simply inquiring about your status; you're adding something. 🙂

I'm currently working on an update on my start of research and mentoring program but how do you recommend I include a sentence or two stating that I desire the opportunity to be interviewed without sounding desperate?

I'd recommend something to the effect of:

"I would also like to express my strong interest in the Stritch School of Medicine and feel that Stritch's emphasis on service and forming excellent clinicians makes Stritch stand out to me. If I am fortunate enough to receive an interview invitation, I would most certainly attend. Thank you again for your time and consideration."

That's an important one to include regardless of what else you say. Schools never want to "waste" invites. It's a higher yield if they get an invitee to come when invited. Let them know you'll be there if they coming knocking.

sounds good, thanks bbender

So, I failed with this secondary. Had been working on it for the month and do to some family stuff this week, forgot that it had to be mailed by today. Has anyone had success/tried to ask for an extension? I emailed admissions, but obviously its a Friday and didn't hear back. I asked to mail the application on Monday and then hopefully they would be able to receive it by next Thursday.... is it even worth it?

....It just makes me sick. A) I love this school and B) I would lose my $75 🙁

Call them Monday first thing, apologize, express your interest and you've had some family stuff lately. They tend to be understanding, and the fact that you bother to call shows you're seriously interested.

They allow a 2 week grace period after the due date and even after that, they'll still accept it. I called and that's what the admissions lady said.

does any one know what dates in october they have interview schedules even if they are full? I'm going to another interview in chicago then and I was hoping to ask them if I could interview at loyola at about the same time to save on travel costs. Do you guys think its would be a bit rude/arrogant to ask them for an interview?

You want to ask for an interview? I wouldn't be so bold as to do that...you're assuming that they want to grant you one in the first place, no offense. I just don't think that it's professional.

I actual did this at another school after I was told by my prehealth advisor that schools don't really mind. They may so no, but if you get a rejection because of it, it's most likely you would have been rejected anyway.

Anyway, it actually worked at another school I sent an email to. I was just very polite, told them I wasn't assuming an invite, and that I would make another trip if it was necessary. A couple days later, I got an invite, and was able to schedule two interviews in the same city right after the other.

I tried this last week at Loyola. I actually got a response back that said they would bring it up at the next committee meeting, and they would let me know if they grant my request by the end of this current week. So, I've been waiting patiently still with no word. Not sure if that is a good sign or bad sign. I will let you know if it works. Maybe Loyola doesn't like it.

Good luck! If you do get the interview, could you tell me the schedules for october? I wouldn't want to ask them for an interview at a time when they arn't interviewing.
Thanks

I hope it doesn't affect me negatively to just ask. They know that traveling is expensive and students are poor.

Does Loyola screen? I just got the secondary today (took forever!!!!)

just got my secondary today after submitting amcas over 2.5 months ago

hmmm just called the admissions office with a general question and they weren't as nice as this forum makes them seem 🙁

oh well, I still like this school and I'm looking forward to their decision!

I think their application website says something about only accepting calls on Thursdays, maybe that was the issue?

"For further status check information you may contact the Office of Admissions on Thursdays between 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. (CST) at 708-216-3229 or you may email us at: [email protected]."

Hmm looks like you are right. I would never have thought to check for something like that... It's kind of a bizarre rule. Oh well, duly noted!
