Interview Invite for 9/23 at the Grand Rapids location! First of the season for me so I'm excited..!

Does anyone know if their interviews are open or closed file?

:/ On Hold for Interview... is this like a rejection or is rejection something else?

Are you OOS? I am and I havent heard anything since being complete on 8/9. When were you complete?

Interviewed here yesterday and absolutely loved it! Good luck to all those with upcoming interviews! Ask a lot of questions to the students who have lunch and tour with you because they were very helpful and friendly.

Hey so did I! lol

For those who just interviewed, any helpfull hints on how to prepare?

Does anyone know when out of state applicants start hearing back about interviews?

Nope, not a rejection. It's exactly what it sounds like. They're reviewed your file and while no immediate decision was made to interview you, they're being good enough to let you know some action was taken. Plenty of people last year who got put on hold eventually got interviews.

As far as OOS interviews go, they'll become more prevalent as the interview season goes on. At first only highly qualified and well-fitted OOS applicants will get interviews, but by Christmas around half of interviewees are OOS. At MSU it is still really early. We've had two interview days, both almost entirely for EDP candidates. We interview until April, once to twice a week on average.

It was suuuper laid-back, they asked me all questions about my AMCAS and that was it. It really just felt like a conversation with both of my interviewers (you have one 30 min with a student and one 30 min with a faculty member).

Haha nice, who were you? I was the girl in the dark brown/gray tweed skirt suit. I felt like there were a lot of people there - hard to get to know everyone.

Ah okay. I am OOS and I don't have crazy high stats... I was just curious.. because some schools say "re-review" but it basically means rejection... thanks for the enlightenment

I forget the day I was complete I think early August sometime...

Got an interview invite today via email! App complete 8/4 OOS. Scheduled for Oct 19th at the Grand Rapids preclinical campus. So excited.

Do you mind sharing your stats? I am also OOS and am wondering how we fare here.

Thanks!🙂

You'll get far more responses if you post this in the "What are my Chances" section. From the looks of things your chances aren't excellent, though. Nobody is going to like the downward trend in MCAT, and the GPA is well below average. Consider applying to MSU's DO school. Your stats would far better fit that school.

Agree with ThaliaNox that the MCAT trend isn't great, however, an upward GPA trend is good. I might consider applying here still if you like the program and your EC's rock. Your numbers are definitely below average but they are averages for a reason. I have 3.05 uGPA (WAY below average lol), 3.9 gGPA, and 31 MCAT and I interviewed here their first day.

i got my interview today. YEAH.
i will go there on the 28th of october. 😛

OOSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

are there any interviews: acceptances-GIVEN stats?

I don't understand your question. If you're asking about auto-invites based only on stats, the answer is no. If that's not the question, you'll need to reword because you aren't making much sense.

Sorry I was asking about the ratio between interviews to acceptances...and specifically for the acceptances, not how many actually accepted but the number of given acceptances (presuming that students elect to go to other schools).

I searched around and actually found out that 1/3 of their interviewees were given acceptances...nice little fact 🙂

Sorry about the ambiguity! Cheers!

They told us they interview about 500 candidates for 200 spots, and accept more than that obviously since not everyone matriculates. So I'd say around a 50% chance of acceptance after interviewing (maybe better since we are so early:xf:).

wonder how many interview invites have gone out already?

Just received an interview invite for 10/19/10 at the Grand Rapids campus!

I'm excited but I was hoping it would be at the Lansing Campus, since Lansing is a shorter drive, heh.

did you just get an email invite in the past hour or this morning? when were you complete whites?

Does anyone know when non-Michigan residents hear back about interviews? I'm a 3.7 sGPA and a 31S MCAT, is that too low for OOS?

My email invite came to me today (Thursday) at 2pm, and I was complete 7/27.

Also, I'm in state, 28Q, 3.4 sGPA.

Rejected this morning....🙁 . OOS 320, 3.4ug gpa, 3.96g gpa. Complete Aug 20th for those interested.

altoid, sorry to hear the bad news....keep the chin up bc you have solid stats; something will break your way. Was it a status update or one or an email?

Thanks I appreciate it. They sent an email this morning. Oh well, good luck to everyone else!

Hey I'm interviewing on the 19th as well!! See you there! 🙂

Got put on the pre-interview decision hold a few days ago (OOS). Doubt I'll ever get an interview since they won't re-review my file until February anyway. Hah.

G'luck to everyone else!

hey, im applying kinda late to all my schools, but I was wondering how strict MSU is with the 2 week secondary deadline, i really want to be accepted here, but im having lor troubles and probably wont be complete for 3 weeks instead of 2...is this really bad? should I call the office to let them know?

I'm pretty sure I went way over the 2 week deadline for the secondary, but I always thought it was more of a firm recommendation not a hard date. MSU certainly didn't say/do anything when my secondary did get completed.

Then again, my app is still in screening, so who knows what effect that might have had? 😕

This wait is slowly killing me. I was complete August 17th, but haven't heard anything back yet.

Has anyone gotten an interview invite that was complete around this time?

There are so many factors that go into the order that invites go out that the day of completion really doesn't mean much. For example, I was complete in early September the year I applied and got my invite in early October. I was in state. Others were complete in July or August and didn't get interviews until spring. OOS interviews generally happen later. People with good fit or strong stats often interview earlier than folks without good fit or with weaker stats.

They put a lot of people on hold until spring after initial review to see if you're really interested, especially if you're OOS. They say a lot of these folks end up withdrawing because of better favored acceptances to other schools. What would have been the point of interviewing those folks, in the school's mind. That it causes anxiety to us is a lower priority to them.

Someone asked how many invites of the 500 have gone out. Less than 1/4. They only send them out a few weeks in advance and we interview well into the spring. The committee has only met twice, I think. Possibly three times. Plenty of time. MSU moves on a slower schedule than many schools, I think.

Placed on Hold....and I just submitted my secondary yesterday lol.

I have been complete here for over 2 months, and although I would love an interview I'm not expecting one. I'm in-state but my stats are sub-par for MSU-CHM. However I have already been accepted to MSU-COM so I may be a spartan anyway =D. It's good to know that CHM is moving slowly with interview invites because this means I still have a chance.

It's much easier to be patient with CHM now that I know I'll be heading to med school somewhere next year!

I'm in the opposite situation - I got an interview at MSU-CHM, but haven't heard back from MSU-COM yet!

woot woot. interview invite! OOS. was not expecting to hear back until way later. :woot:

Uh-oh . . . 😱

Does this mean that if we're IS and haven't heard back yet it's pretty much a silent rejection?

i applied pretty early too - submitted everything in july and i think they reviewed my stuff in august.

It's interesting the way the application process works. Funny that we're in the exact opposite situations. I've been accepted to my top 2 DO schools so far, and I'm really happy about this. We'll see if I hear positively from MSU-CHM. Good luck!!

Hey y'all. And congrats to everyone who got an invite!

I've been away for a while (not away, more like myopically immersed in my quotidian existence), but I was wondering if people could help me out.

I'm an OS with par to sub-par stats, and my Supp. was "confirmed complete" on 9/22. I still haven't heard anything back, so I'm starting to feel nervous.

Thoughts? Reassurances? Well-meaning but ultimately hollow platitudes and condolences regarding a lifelong dream deferred?
