It was a difficult decision but I just withdrew my acceptance to Grand Rapids campus. OOS (Canada). Good luck guys! I hope one of you gets it!

congrats Doctora!
do you get details on ABLE? is that an SMP or some custom program? do you take similar classes as BLOCK I?

Thank you Supisak! It's not an SMP but it is a custom post-bacc program for about 10 (generally URM) students. It is a summer institute followed by two semesters of a mixture of medical and undergraduate science courses. We get to get Gross Anatomy out of the way so we won't have to take it once we actually start medical school. As long as we maintain a GPA of 3.2 we have a guaranteed seat in the entering class of 2012!

well that is awesome Doctora, that is a gauranteed seat in the next class - that is an ACCEPTANCE ! well done!

It has been quiet here. Hope that means some waitlist movement is coming soon. :xf: for those still waiting.

I am starting to lose hope. It has been at least a month since the final notice for med schools.

Well, was just removed as an alternate. So guess my loss of hope was within reason. Guess I will try again next year.

Former lurker here. Yes, it has been awfully quiet. Maybe there are not a lot of SDNers on the CHM waitlist.

That really sucks at this point in the game... Good luck next time. Did they send you an e-mail?

Yep. They sent me an email that said I was removed from the alternate list and am now considered an unsuccessful applicant. Also if I want them to look over my application I have to fill out this self assessment guide and turn it in. They also won't look at an applicant if you already applied for 2012.

So they basically consider the submission of a general 2012 application at this point as a "withdraw?" Or only if you reapply at this school specifically while on the alternate list?

I don't know if they consider it a withdrawl, but they said that they won't discuss your application if you applied for 2012.

Ah, that makes more sense. I misread your previous comment as pertaining to the removal from the waitlist rather than the discussion of your file.

Hi All,

I just realized I posted on the incorrect thread yesterday. I withdrew from the MSU-CHM waitlist yesterday morning. I am IS.

I wish all the waitlisters the best of luck.

P.S. I thought I'd share one v. hopeful fact is that last year they took 1/2 of the waitlist. Remembering this fact gave me lots of hope through the spring.
I know being in waitlist limbo is tough, but hang in there. Life is long. If you want to go to medical school, you will get there.

Just got removed from the alternate list as well (I'm IS). Good luck to the rest of you.

Well this is interesting. They sent me an email, saying the other one was incorrectly sent out, and that I am still listed as an alternate.

Lol... same. This is ridiculous...

At least your mistake was a negative email followed by a good one/retraction of a negative. My first post interview news was an acceptance email, which later that day turned into a "oh wait nevermind, our mistake" lol. A little funny now.

WOW! That would shatter my soul. 😱

Yeah I got the, "You didn't make it" email at about 2pm Central time. No sign of the "Oops, we messed up" one. Good luck to those still holding out, and if I happen to still be in the running, Ill make some noise. Otherwise, cheers mates and best wishes.

Hey guys. Just got an email that I was released from the alternate list as well and am now an unsuccessful applicant (IS). Good luck to the other alternate listers who are still in the running!!

I was under the impression that schools (or MSU-CHM at least) didn't release people from the alternate list unless the class was full. So what's the deal? Does anyone know what causes MSU to start pulling folks from the alternate list?

While I can't say specifically and with 100% certainty, MSU, along with every other medical school, will pull people from the alternate lists when there becomes openings in the class (well, at this point in the admissions game). The class is already full. When someone drops from the class, they will offer a position to someone on the alternate list. It is unusual that they would release people from the alternate list, but I see it as a great thing. At this point in the game they can probably say that certain people on the list will more than likely not eventually be admitted, so they're telling those people this. It may suck to hear the news, but at least they aren't giving you hope that is really false. Most other schools will keep you in that limbo to the last minute, which isn't really appropriate if they really don't foresee a spot opening for you.

Good luck!!!:luck::luck::luck:

I can only hope that the people still on the alternate list have a good chance of getting in should more people withdraw acceptances from MSUCHM.

Does anyone know which apartment buildings the medical students are living in at the Grand Rapids campus? I am beginning the housing hunt and I'll take all the suggestions I can get.

"Top of the Hill Apartments"

Good clean cheap living within walking distance to the hospitals and school, and stumbling distance from some cool downtown bars.

Hey I was accepted here.. does anyone know if lecture attendance is required?

Dean Maurer indicated during interview day that lecture attendance is not required and that lectures are recorded for later review
however he did make a point to say that studies show that students that attend lecture do tend to perform better

Yesterday I visited GR for the first time. Medical Mile is pretty awesome. In particular the new children's hospital was amazing to see. All the hospitals and research buildings are connected via tunnels to the medical school. I can't wait to start in August! I'm sure the shiny new building and great views of downtown GR will wear off quickly once I'm knee deep in material for the first anatomy exam...

Scholarship decisions come out today right?

Yes, I already received my notification. I applied for more than one, but only heard back about one so far. Maybe they only notify you if you were awarded something?

Aww that makes me sad.... oh well 🙂

AHHHHHH just got in from the WL an hour ago!!! First acceptance. 🙂

I was preparing to reapply and retake the MCAT in September in the meantime and I got the call just as I was about to start studying for the day. I'm so glad I don't have to do any of that all over again.

I wish anyone still on the WL the best of luck. I had a late March interview and have been waitlisted since early April. I know how much it sucks to be on the WL, but there may still be hope for some of you. Nevertheless, keep working on your reapplication and other areas of need just in case you don't get in.

Congrats! 🙂
I have friends on the waitlist at CHM and other schools that are really pessimistic right now. Hopefully, they will cheer up a bit when I tell them that there is still hope for WL movement.

Ty. Yes, there is definitely still hope because there's more than a month till orientation. Also, my chances were that much lower at this stage since I am IS.
