Hey guys,

First off, Mt. Sinai is an awesome school and so if you guys are on the waitlist, just keep up hope.

Now, here is my question: Mt. Sinai is the school I am holding a spot at since after May 15th. Within the past few days, I was offered a spot off a waitlist from another school. I have this weekend to decide and I would have to send out my acceptance of their acceptance offer by this Monday. I am asking (if I do decide to go with the other school) whether I should use email or a letter in the mail to inform Mt. Sinai about my withdrawal of their acceptance.

Also, should I send it out immediately on Monday or not until I hear confirmation that the other school has received my letter that I send out via postal mail... which could be the end of next week? Please only answer if you have concrete knowledge or are pretty sure you know what you're talking about. I ask because USPS and I have had some bad experiences.

Email or phone call for everything. I'm sure Sinai would appreciate the quicker route, particularly in the waitlist time period.

Should I send the email after the other school confirms they received my letter or as soon as I send the letter? Thanks.

E-mail Mt. Sinai now. Call the school whose acceptance offer you are taking and say that you're attending and that a letter is in the mail.

losing hope and about to pay a housing deposit for another school 🙁 oh well....

Called yesterday. There hasn't been any movement since the first batch. The lady said that the committee is meeting next week so we may not hear anything for a while. Hopefully a bunch of seats open up!

Thanks for that info! Guess we'll just be sitting tight for a while...

Hang in there, jeepy. You never know what can happen.

thanks for the encouragement 🙂 I'll try to keep my hopes up for all of us!

great, thanks for the information! I'm sure some of the first batch didn't accept, and some others must have been taken off of other waitlists...just gotta hope to be the lucky one to take their spots.

my friend called the office and the lady told him that no date had been selected for a meeting for the adcom... who knows...

I don't understand why they have so much lag time at Mt. Sinai.... If they sent out only one round on 5/20 with a reply deadline of 6/3, why wait two weeks (three weeks if nothing until next week) to meet and make more offers?

More time for additional people to withdraw and go elsewhere.

maybe next week?

i am losing my mind waiting for movement here :scared:

this is the last school i have a file open with and also my top choice! i would guess that spots have opened up but not enough to merit a committee meeting yet. when you consider the fact that some 2016 applicants have probably submitted their secondaries already, you really understand the length of the process.

called again today. i think they've moved on to person-by-person movement at this time. they said only 1-2 people have gotten in since the first batch 🙁.

Thanks for the information. At least we know that there's some movement going on, although it's certainly disheartening to reach this point and not have heard from them.

If 1-2 people made it in since the first batch, do you think it's because the class is full and they're doing it as people withdraw, or just that only 1-2 people have accepted the offer? They probably didn't tell you directly, but what was the sense you received from speaking with them?

Yeah, that's the feel I got. I don't think there will be major movement after this point. They may just be taking people off as spaces open up. And I agree, it's hard for me to let this one go.

Well, at least we have alternates. I feel worse for the people who have no other acceptances and are holding out on the waiting list.

I called on Wednesday asking if there had been any movement, and they said the committee still hasn't set a date yet for the meeting. maybe next week or the week after. she said many people declined their offer though, so I got a more optimistic vibe than your phone call.

I think it might be only 1-2 ppl since first batch because maybe they had been discussed at the first batch meeting, but now they're preparing for the 2nd batch??

I hope you're right! They do tend to be inconsistent with info over the phone. All things considered, there still is another month of summer.

It does seem weird that they'd take so long, but you never know what's going on behind the scenes. Let's hope that they do go through a second wave soon, and let's hope that we're on it! If the three of us make it in, we should form a study group 🙂

Rejected today via email 🙁 . I've officially heard something from every school now. Signing off sdn.

so sorry to hear that 🙁 at least you have closure instead of more waiting and never hearing back.

best of luck to you wherever you're going!

Basically echoing jeepy here, but sorry to hear that, and best of luck where you're headed (UMDNJ, I believe?). Thanks also for sharing information that you gathered about the wait list process.

Really late, but withdrew yesterday from MSSM. Hopefully one of you guys gets the spot!

A new organization: 'Health Students 4 Donation' that will recruit people to the organ donation registry is currently looking for major leaders in MSSM. E-mail: [email protected] if interested. Please see the attached document for more information.

Why start a club in your school?
1. Cash prizes will be awarded to the schools with the greatest enrollment.
2.You will have the opportunity to present (in poster &/or publication form) data you will collect from fellow students at our annual conference.
3. A few organ donor organizations will be giving honorable awards to students who lead groups that demonstrate great leadership.
4. A certificate of Organ Donation Counseling that you will receive once trained will look great on your CV and great on your wall for patients to see.
5. Founding a chapter in your school, in and of itself, looks amazing on a CV!
6. Because you truly care about the cause and want to make a difference!

Hi guys and gals, I am interviewing at MSSM this cycle and am wondering, for those of you who interviewed last cycle, what time is the earliest you can physically leave the school on interview day. My email says the days activities are done by 2-3 PM, but my plane departs at 5 PM. At what exact time did the interview begin?
