For those waitlisted how long did it take you to get the waitlist letter in The mail?

I got "waitlisted" from it when I was waitlisted for the regular MD program, but if accepted in the summer, I will be considered for PORTAL again. need double the hope!

Wow, good luck! I actually completely forgot about it because I hadn't heard back for so long I was just assuming a rejection. Anyways, looking at my sinai fin aid packet it looks like the only way I can go here is if i get into portal.. nice to know school in nyc is a possibility once again.
am i the only one that failed to hear anything about all the stuff they need for the financial aid packet?

Did you get a packet during the finaid presentation? It has all the information you need in it. Basically, you need to complete FAFSA, Needs Access, copies of parental W-2 and 1040, copies of student W-2 and 1040, and the Sinai institutional finaid form (pages 1 and 4 if you're not applying for Sinai loans/scholarship, all pages if you're applying for institutional funds). They're pretty efficient and will get back to you in less than 2 weeks regarding your award package.
On an unrelated note, are Sinai lectures recorded? Now I've heard differing things about this. Anyone who could clarify would be greatly appreciated!

Nothing really. There were 25 kids there, a couple non-urms though they may have been international students. We had a few presentations, met with deans and faculty as well as some students. They told us kinda the same thing you'd hear if you called in and asked--"there's always movement here, it's just impossible to say how much there will be from year to year'". Pretty ambiguous stuff. Sinai def jumped to the top of my list after the revisit though. I love their involvement in the local Harlem community and global health opportunities. I'd even swallow the huge price difference between Sinai and my state school that I was accepted to if admitted.

I'm still making my decision. I really liked Mount Sinai when I interviewed, but at this point, everything is beginning to blur together. Does anyone remember what information came in our interview packets? I have the "Top 10" list, the MD/MPH info, the PORTAL and bioethics brochures, the Multicultural Affairs brochure, and the DVD. Did we get contact info from current students or profiles of the student ambassadors (I might be getting confused with NYU...).

When I sent in my updates/loi's in to Jessica Maysonet I didn't receive a confirmation. I recently got an email to send in an official transcript to accompany the unofficial one I sent earlier in the year though so I'm guessing they definitely file the updates they just don't send confirmation back.

I may have misjudged (blaming it on finals week) 😕. It looks like last year, acceptances went out the Friday after the traffic deadline.
If what smartparts said is true, we won't be hearing anything until tomorrow.

2008-09: May 15th was a Friday, first waitlist movement was on the 19th, a Tuesday
2009-10: May 15th was a Saturday, first waitlist movement was on the 19th again (a Wednesday)
sooooooooo I guess that doesn't really mean anything as the 19th is upon us already. unless they went out to only non-SDN'rs, hopefully we should hear something soon 😕. I haven't looked into it enough to know when the committee met those years. Sorry for the confusion!

haha that's alright. thanks for your sleuthing! I forgot to mention; I called the office yesterday around 2 PM and they said the committee hasn't even met yet and she said maybe next week we'll start hearing. I'm hoping that's a generous estimate of time just to get applicants off the admissions office' backs 🙂
That's funny. I called the office a little before jeepy did, and they said that the meeting was about to happen that day (but didn't say when offers would be sent). They also confirmed that there will be some waitlist acceptances.
oh interesting. well I'm not really surprised; the lady I talked to seemed kind of put off that I was calling to ask for information. good news, either way.
The class is overbooked even after the May 15th deadline. There will be almost no movement this year.

Accepted off the waitlist!! I got the email about an hour ago. Interviewed late February. Sent a lengthy letter of interest/update in early May.
ACCEPTED! So incredibly happy right now!
From the email - "In order to hold your spot, you will need to accept our offer by return e-mail, and withdraw from any other schools at which you are currently holding acceptances, no later than close of business Friday, June 3rd."

In off the waitlist too! Damn, really didn't think I had a prayer. I'm pumped, definitely matriculating.
Now I have to choose between Mount Sinai and UCSF. Any suggestions?

This all sounds very nice, but I'm skeptical. It seems like they would issued as many acceptances just after May 16 as they had open spots. I doubt that there would be more spots open in June than there were in May.
yea i'm sure they sent out the maximum number of acceptances already but i think lots of top tier applicants hold sinai acceptances if it's their 2nd/3rd choice school. when those people hear back from their top choices, i think more places will open up (at least i hope that's the case haha).

Not everyone they offer a spot off the wait list will accept. If after May 16th they had 10 spots to fill, they offer that many spots to waitlisters. Not all of those 10 will accept. Also, someone in at Sinai may get off a wait list somewhere else and release a spot at Sinai. The wait list is a dynamic game and I think it's very hard to track the numbers. Just keeping fingers crossed...
(Sorry, they remembered the story wrong - they had two weeks to reply, as well.)
I guess the second wave will be going out early next week.

I'm inclined to agree with that timing. The first group had 2 weeks so that makes June 3rd their last day, plus more people may have withdrawn by now as other waitlists have started moving.

Now, here is my question: Mt. Sinai is the school I am holding a spot at since after May 15th. Within the past few days, I was offered a spot off a waitlist from another school. I have this weekend to decide and I would have to send out my acceptance of their acceptance offer by this Monday. I am asking (if I do decide to go with the other school) whether I should use email or a letter in the mail to inform Mt. Sinai about my withdrawal of their acceptance.
Also, should I send it out immediately on Monday or not until I hear confirmation that the other school has received my letter that I send out via postal mail... which could be the end of next week? Please only answer if you have concrete knowledge or are pretty sure you know what you're talking about. I ask because USPS and I have had some bad experiences.
