i assumed they were synonymous. I am on the alternate list. Not sure about movement. I know that last year they ended up accepting (including off the waitlist) 385 to fill a class of 140. Not sure what the case will be this year.

Accepted this morning! At 8:45 PST (11:45 Eastern). I interviewed on February 4.
Hi everyone!
I just got my official acceptance packet in the mail yesterday (interviewed 1/21). The letter indicates that Mount Sinai requests a reply by March 15, but does anyone know if the acceptance is exclusive? I have some other acceptances and I was hoping Second Look would help me make up my mind, but I don't want to commit a huge faux-pas and hold multiple acceptances if Mount Sinai is exclusive.
If anyone has a better idea, please let me know! Congrats to other who have been accepted and good luck to those who have been waitlisted!

I called two weeks ago and they told me that this would be the last week of interviews (today is the last day). Unless they decided to open more slots up, it's pretty much over here...
I believe that Mt. Sinai is not exclusive and that you can hold other acceptances while you consider Sinai. That is what I'm doing, but the packet does say that if you decide to go somewhere else you have to notify them by phone and in writing by May 15.
Are there any schools that are "exclusive?" I've never heard of this... I thought you could hold as many acceptances as you want (regardless of school) until May 15 (AAMC traffic rules day)? Are there exceptions?

Also, you can hold multiple acceptance with a Sinai acceptance (I think that's true with all medical schools until May 15th)! At least that's what I did last year...

i interviewed 3/1 at sinai. does anyone remember when they said we'd hear back? i think they said they would review our files the following week (i.e. last week) and then we'd hear back by end of march?

Silly me. Submitted my form! Anyone else torn between Case Western and Mount Sinai's Second Looks?
I am not in this situation, but one of the student ambassadors on my interview day at Sinai said that he had to decide between thse two to matriculate. He's from Montana. Does that ring a bell? Cause maybe you can email and ask him why he chose Sinai.
Oh I also remember that his undergrad school is Northwestern. In case you want to call the admissions office and start a hunt for him or something.

+1 Will probably withdraw, not too hopeful about my chances of coming off a waitlist as long as theirs...
The waitlist is absolutely ranked so unless one killed their interviews, it seems doubtful. And it is an extremely long list this year. It has been an exceptionally competitive year and it seems as though there will be little to no movement this year. Threads from a few years ago and up to last year were from when Mount Sinai was ranked in the 40s to 30s, even in the 20s (I believe Sinai was ranked 22nd one full application cycle ago) and that's when they saw some movement from the waitlist. Now that it has cracked the top 20 and stayed in the top 20 for 2011, people are flocking to the school and Mount Sinai can be very selective of its students. I would stay on the waitlist, but not get my hopes up.
Does anyone who got an invite to the alternate list revisit weekend April 29 (I think its directed at minority students), know what appropriate dress would be? Also, anyone have any insight into how many people are invited to the revisit or how many are generally accepted off the waitlist in general from year to year? (not sure if answers to these questions are posted elsewhere, sorry if this post is redundant)
woah I didn't know there was an alternate list revisit weekend! it's really only for minority students?? that's...strange?
does it mean you're not as important if you weren't invited? 🙁

I don't think it means anything if you didn't get an invite. It seems to be for URMs and such. Did anyone else receive an invite or attend this event last year?

I think it's for URMs and a select few people highly ranked on the waitlist.
Anyone who is not a minority student invited to this? it would be a decent indicator as to how many people are currently ranked below that cutoff if we knew..

Second look was really good. I haven't been to any others so I can't give a comparison. We had mock microbiology and anatomy lectures (Dr. Laitman is really really funny). The students there seemed chill, just the sort that Mt. Sinai seems to attract. There was a party/get together Friday at the Stir Lounge after dinner which I didn't make because I had to head home early to do some work. But when I came back Saturday morning, everyone seemed more chatty which is a good thing. So I think the new students are a cool, friendly bunch

Stir Lounge was pretty awesome. It was a little weird that we got there so early (9:00), but it picked up later on--after it thinned out and the 1st years showed up, it turned into a dance party. Suggestion for next year MSSM, give us an open bar and your retention rate will sky rocket
Haha an open bar for kids our age would be a little dangerous on their part and might influence decisions in the opposite way when ppl get drunk and do some regrettable things
how nice would it be to know how many they will take from wl and how many stay on the list?!... haha
did yours come in the mail already? everyone else get theirs too?
