I just got my interview invite, Monday Sep 13th. Yay! 🙂 I guess my short essays were good enough after all.

Funny thing is, I haven't sent in any LOR yet. Go figure.

Hahaha yeah I guess they don't require LOR's for the interview invite.

Just wondering though, if they did receive my LORs (sent them weeks ago), does that mean they already read them prior to inviting me to interview? I just want to make sure there are no red flags in my letters and this would be a good way to tell.

I just asked my pre-med advisor about the deal with LORs. Apparently, some (and it might be the case for most) schools review your secondary and primary application without the LORs. There's an understanding that depending on the school you are applying from, committee letters are sent in very late (august, sept). Thus, your letters will factor in along with your interview as part of the later admissions process.

That's exactly the case with my application. Our committee requires MCAT scores for an interview to write the letter, and I got my scores back the week after classes were over in the Spring. They do summer interviews only for people applying EDP, so I'll just try to get mine done as early as possible when classes start again in August.

I could have taken my MCAT earlier and done my interview in the spring, but I just didn't feel quite ready in March. This route gives me the whole summer to prep for my committee interview though, which I'm nervous about.

You guys are making me wish I had already submitted my application. I'm still struggling with the altruism essay... want to make it sound goooood

congrats guys!! wow they are doing them early this year, nice!

Hey Everybody! Congratulations on getting interview invites so early! I was wondering if you could post your stats ? Thanks!

35Q/3.7-something sGPA OOS with pretty standard AMCAS activities.

Yeah, the altruism essay was a little tricky. I was just honest in my essay, and it worked out well for me. Anyone else sick of writing essays yet? Too bad I still have 6 apps to go.

35Q 3.94 GPA. I got an invite for September 8th like a lot of the guys on here.

Are you guys doing the student host thing? I was hoping to stay up there for the weekend before my Monday interview and check out the city.

I sent them an email but haven't heard anything yet. I feel like it's a better way to get an idea about student life there. But this will obviously be my first interview so we'll see, hope it doesn't make the trip more stressful to stay with a host.

Haha I wonder what it will be like to be part of the first interview day for a given year at a school.

Well orientation for new students doesnt start til aug 9th, so I figure they'd have sign up sheets then for student host,

Do you guys think we get assigned to an interview day based on how early we are complete?

That seems likely. I'm guessing those of you interviewing on the 1st turned it in fairly quickly after receiving it. I turned mine in about 8 days after receiving it and got scheduled for 13th.

Did you guys get a call from the dean congratulating you on the interview? I missed the call, and got it in the form of a voicemail 🙁.

hahaha i missed mine too. I'm not sure if getting a call from the dean is the norm, but pretty cool nonetheless.

Ok people. I knew this time would come and I would have to write this essay, but I truly believe that there is no such thing as an altruistic act. Everything you do has some sort of reward -- where it is making you happy to help someone out, feeling superior than others for doing something they wouldn't do, or putting an activity on a resume. Every act has a reward.

SO If i write this on my OSU application. Give me definition of altruism, say how no one ever displays true altruism, but there are incidents that are close to true selfishness -- such as helping out someone, with no actual reward (except feeling better about yourself) -- and then give examples of when I have been close to true altruism. Do you think that should be OK? I truly believe that this is a BS essay where everyone is lying -- hell, the fact that you write about a time that you displayed altruism no longer makes it an altruistic act because you are "bragging" about. I am so confused.

So has anyone ever heard of someone getting into OSU saying that they never actually did an altruistic act?? Or should I really just BS for the sake of getting an interview. <sigh>

Totally agree with you, but just suck it up and jump through the damn hoops.

I just got a call from the Dean. Sure feels like a good way to start off the application year.

3.60+ GPA, 35Q

I got my call this evening around 8:00 pm central time. I wish I wouldn't have missed the call! I'm extremely excited for this interview.
3.98 cGPA, 35R

37M here. I'm guessing they have some sort of quick review pile for the 35+ MCAT scores.

I got the call today congratulating me but I couldn't asnwer the phone. Where do I find when my interview day is? I don't have an email from them and the application website doesn't say anything... maybe I'll just give them a call tomorrow.

oh and 3.6, 39Q

Nope, not quite 35 here 😀. But pretty close.

It's so exciting that it seems like all of us have gotten interviews here, yay! Have there been any rejections?

Do you guys know what % they interview and how what post-interview % get accepted? I can't find that info and from this thread, it sounds like an awful lot of interviews.

here's the info for the 2009 entering class:

http://medicine.osu.edu/students/admissions/Documents/2009 Profile Sheet.pdf

689 interviewed out of 4185 applicants. What makes me happy is the 442 acceptances from those 689...🙂

You know, inviting for interviews early is as good for a school as applying early is for us. I now have an unexplainable love for this school...becoming my top choice. It was already high before, but now it's at another level.

I feel the same. The call from the dean is a good first impression of the faculty too. If I get a nice early acceptance here :xf:, I plan to withdraw from many of the other schools I'm applying to.

Definitely. Me too.

So, everybody who interviews before October 15 should hear by then right?

I think in last years thread, the acceptances came at like 3AM on Oct. 16th, but close enough. So assuming you don't interview on the 13th or something, I would expect news around then.

September 13th interview. Oddly I submitted my secondary on Sunday night, got a call from the dean Monday night, then received my email confirming they had received my application today and an hour later my email saying when I would interview. I am so happy about this school, best of luck to everyone!

Got a phone call from the dean last night for an interview on 9/1

3.7 / 39Q OOS

How many people do think interview on any given day.

Im on 9/8 and was just wondering if there is going to 10 people or 50 people on that day.

Had to reschedule =/

But really loving this school. Can't wait to interview.
Rescheduling makes me stupidly paranoid, being afraid that I'll show up and not be on the list. Haha it's so dumb I should get over it.

Has anyone heard from the student hosts?

Congrats! Looks like I will see ya there. Any more 9/13'ers yet?

You guys all received emails about the interview? Do you mean just an email about there being a change in our status?

For people who rescheduled their interviews, how long did it take for the new date to show up on the status page to be confirmed?

well... I submitted my secondary finally. Here's to hoping that I am magically as go as everyone ese who has gotten an interview invite already (with my >35 MCAT).:xf:

if you rescedule your interview date, can you choose which date you'd like or will they automatically assign you another date?

also when you confirm your interview, you just go back to your status page right? there's no confirmation or anything...

it says "confirmed" next to the interview date instead of what it said before you confirmed lol..

I've been complete since July 4th and still no response 🙁 (OOS 33R, 3.9)

In the letter with details / directions for interview, there is an email address for student hosting.

I've heard that OOS students can get in-state tuition after their first year. Can anyone confirm or deny this??? I tried to do some digging but came up empty-handed....

My understanding is yes you can (this is via a person at Cincinnati and my reading of the Ohio resident rules though). Ohio is very stringent on who can be marked as in-state though (which is why I didn't apply/qualify as an Ohio resident -- even though I vote here).

To qualify you have to pay Ohio state tax, be 100% paying your own way through medical school for one-year full year -- so starting the August before your second year. (No family-support allowed... but loans count... but you still need to pay ohio state tax.) The person at Cincinnati recently got his Ohio drivers license before he starts his second year -- so this might be required (but I always think that's a funny requirement if you don't have a car, haha).
