I'm in my tenth week after the interview with no change to the info in my portal. It doesn't say hold or anything like that. Anybody else in the same boat?

I interviewed 1/11, so I am about 9th week I believe and haven't heard anything either. No info change in my portal! Hang in there everyone 👍

I interviewed back in December and when I reached the 8 week mark, I went ahead and called. I was expecting to hear that it would be several more weeks, but they kindly told me that I would be hearing any day, and the next day I received my acceptance by email! My portal was updated about a week later, exactly 2 months after my interview date. I'm MD/MPH, so I'm not sure if they handle that any different than MD admissions.

But I don't think there is any harm in calling. The people in Admissions are lovely and worst case is that they will tell you to keep waiting...

Good luck to you all! I would love to hear from any other MD/MPH candidates out there!

Accepted today 🙂 Interviewed 1/18

Matriculating here will largely depends on Wiche funding... so we shall see!

GL everyone

After checking my admission portal, it said I have been put on hold. I thought I would have been notified by email. Trying to be optimistic. Better than rejection.

Hi all! I'm currently on hold. Is it still true that ohsu has only given out 15% of their acceptances and that most acceptances will be made after may fifteenth? I remember reading a post that say otherwise... Can someone confirm? Thanks and good luck all.

I'm anxiously still waiting! I interviewed 1/11 for MD/MPH and haven't heard anything whatsoever. I have noticed that people with earlier interview dates have already heard. Do you happen to know if being an MD/MPH applicant has anything to do with it??

Interviewed 1/20. Got my acceptance email today! :soexcited:
I have to say this whole waiting process was excruciating.
Best of luck to everyone! :luck: :luck: :luck:

For any MD/PhD applicants still waiting, I heard today that OHSU has accepted 2 internal applicants, and 3 external applicants for next year's class.

Unless someone backs out, that will be it for this season.

Accepted MD/PhD, however not funded for the first year. Not too shabby

This has been a topic of spirited debate with no conclusive answer. I'm on hold too, the wait is no fun. Less than 2 months left though!

URHere, so I am assuming since my portal hasn't changed, I am going to have to wait to see if anyone backs out?

Thanks for all the info. And congrats to chuck84!

I doubt that OHSU has only given out 15% of their acceptances. Anecdotal evidence: there are 13 people on the OHSU MD15 facebook group now (>10%) and I doubt that everyone who has been accepted is on facebook or is on SDN. So while I'm sure that it is more than 15%, I bet that it is also less than 70% (random larger number). There has been much debate here about whether there is a mass of acceptances on May 15. I'm doubtful of that, but the entire process is a bit of a black box.

While your suggestion is valid, do keep in mind that the school will substantially over accept to fill the class. 13 is < 10%.

I'm not sure I would say "substantially over-accept" with the significant recent drop in the number of people they pull off the waitlist (wasn't it ~30 last year?). And 13/120 is >10%, assuming that everyone who joins the FB group actually has decided to go to OHSU...which I think would be a fair assumption. But I could be wrong, since I'm not on the ad comm and this is all just idle speculation.

Last year, 218 were admitted, 124 were enrolled, and they made it to 32 on the waitlist. So I'm guessing with 218-32, they gave out 186 acceptances before the waitlist

Wow, thanks Chuck. I had no idea!

Hey I checked my portal for and update, again, and of course saw nothing new. But it got me thinking....how often does everyone check their OHSU portal?

I am fortunate(or maybe unfortunate) to have a pretty cozy work environment, so I check at an absolute minimum of 3 times a day. Ok probably 5.

Just a "for fun" post to cheer up the waiting blues.... =)

Haha, I check my portal update several times a day as well! But, I check SDN like...20 times during work haha. Tsk tsk

Last year (since im a reapplicant) I would check my email and admin portals literally... 10 times a day every day... and a tiny piece of me would die inside every time there wasn't something there. (and that was 99.9% of the time) This time, I set my phone to notify me of emails so I wouldn't think about it. haha I'm slowly recovering now 🙂

LOL! It got to be a bit of a problem for me. Checking it waaaay too much. I finally had to ask my boyfriend to be a unique kind of "accountability partner". He helped me keep it to 1x a day. I have been "on hold" since like January. Just trying to not let it control my life. 🙂

Me too. Key word- "trying"

To the current med students who sometimes skim through this thread, does any of you have access to the 2011 OHSU match list? I read their press report which gives only the big picture of match results, not the specific programs to which their students are headed. I'm sure many of us here would be very interested to know. Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone,

I'm new at this posting business. I have tried to stay away from reading too much of SDN since it kind of stresses me out but since it's getting so late in the season, I was wondering if anyone has been accepted or rejected off of the holding pool?

IS
Intervewed 11/18
Hold 2/02

And congrats to everyone who has been accepted! OHSU + Portland = awesome! I would love to come back for med school since my family is here and I've been away for 4 years.

Match list posted over in Pre-Allo. 🙂

What I have heard is that the hold pool absolutely will not be addressed until May. I've been on hold since Nov.

Hey Guys!

I'm new to SDN and this thread. I was just wondering, is OHSU P/F for the first two years or do they grade students? Is there a rank list? Thanks!

Hey Guys!

It's essentially a graded system. We have honors, near honors, pass, marginal, and fail. As far as a rank list, I have no idea.

This is true. The only exception is the clinical medicine course which is graded on a 1-10 scale and then converted to Honors, NH, Pass, etc based on class performance at the end of the year.

As for a rank list, yes, there is one, but no one aside from the deans will ever find out what your rank is. During the residency application process, programs will be told if you fall into the top, middle, or bottom third of the class, but nothing more. The school won't even give you specifics on your rank, so that's about as secure as it gets.

PCM is not on a curve like every other class unless the class does *very* badly.

The ranking at the end of 3rd year appears in your deans letter and is in quartiles. The ranking is weighted for 1/3 basic science classes and 2/3 3rd year grades.

But, no, not pass fail.

As of 3 years ago, none of the classes were actually graded on a curve - PCM was the closest to being "curved" because the numerical cutoffs for Honors, etc weren't announced until the end of the year.

As for dean's rankings, though, it seems that some of my information has gotten muddled in the years since orientation. Thanks for clearing that up. 🙂

so it has been over 10 weeks since my interview now and I still haven't heard anything. Do you guys recommend I call? Or just continue to be patient?

yeah, my phrasing was a bit unclear. nothing is on a curve, except PCM and only if the class does very badly.

Oh OHSU, why do you insist on making my decision on you so difficult with your archaic ways, low scores and scary price-tag!

Actually I have heard from a number of people that residency programs much prefer a graded system versus a P/F system. It gives them more information and can add more weight to your residency application. It was stated on my interview day that the students had voted to retain the grading system.

Its could also subtract weight from your app if you are not at the top. I am more concerned with learning style and cooperation amongst classmates- when everyone is ranked in a big pile which to some degree determines where you place I bet some students are less inclined to help others eventually "outrank" them. It also means there is pressure to ace every exam right?

Since there isn't a curve, everyone can receive honors (hypothetically of course). You're not "competing" against your classmates. The biggest selling point of OHSU for me is that the class is collaborative and there is an atmosphere of cooperation and mutual assistance. There are always going to be douche-y, hyper-competitive, cut-throat, selfish people, but I think that would be the exception to the norm at OHSU.

That's true. It's a very cooperative environment. People study in groups, share interesting websites with the class mailing list, and will even send out study materials if they've made a helpful summary sheet or some good flashcards.

Some people try to do well and get honors, but unless you're going for a competitive specialty, the rumor is that pre-clinical grades don't matter much anyway.
