Congrats on all the acceptances guys! That's truly awesome news!

Dont get too down... They will be calling more people soon! Looking at last years thread I think they might be calling people tomorrow and Monday also.

Ugh..killer wait.. interviewed 9/23, have heard nothing

So which high speed med student is going to start USUHS Class 2015 group on FB.

Guys USUHS Class of 2015 is on facebook. Check it out

Does anyone know when you can no longer recant your committment. For example if you are accepted in November at USUHS and want to hold your "spot" as you would in any civilian medical school, but are accepted else wear later on, for example, march. Can you retract and go to another school, or are you obligated?
Thank you for clarification

USUHS follows all the rules that civilian medical schools do in the application process. You can hold it as one of two schools all the way until May without penalty. Then you have to make a decision. The nice thing with USUHS is that there is no holding fee. By the way I am a student at USUHS so if you have any questions for me feel free to ask.

Wow.... how did you guys get through the filling out of all these forms!? Is all of government like this? Medical history, life history, addresses, people... WOW

It really isn't so bad once you get through the references section of the SF86 because then you get to the easy box-checking stuff. Just take their advice and KEEP AN EXTRA COPY!!!!!! From what I hear, it is fairly common to have to go through all this paperwork again, whether it is because your originals got lost or something else.

Yeah, I've been told ever couple of years you have to get security clearance again.

LOL.... yes, from my experience all of government is like this, at least the military. LOTS OF PAPERWORK.... the government loves paperwork, it also seems that they love losing it too, so they can make you fill it out again! 🙂

To be an officer in the military requires a secret security clearance for obvious reasons. This security clearance is good for 10 years from the day it was issued. It takes about 12-18 months to get a secret clearance after initiating the paperwork. Dont be detered by the paperwork, from my experience as a medicc, nurse and a health care administrator, paperwork is inevitable in the medical field.

FYI - Top Secret (TS) clearances are also issued, these clearances are good for 5 years and are only issued to individuals who needs them for intellligence purposes, job related etc.

If deemed fit, the military provides officers a clearance for free which makes you more marketable in the civilian and government contracting sector.

SF86 stinks but it is all worth it at the end. Download the PDF on digits, start the paperwork and save it on your computer. This way you will have it for a long time and you can simply make changes as your career progress.

Did anyone accepted interview on 9/30?

I did and got the phone call late in the day, around 4 pm. They must have gone through the 9/30 interview group, if you didn't get a call it could be that they just didn't have time to get all the phone calls out before the end of business hours.

to those of you who have been accepted (congratulations by the way), who called you? and do you still get a phonecall if you were rejected? i got a voicemail today from a dr kellerman at usuhs but the voicemail didn't mention anything regarding an admissions decision - only said to call back. of course i didn't get the message until too late so it was already 7:00pm on the east coast. man!! now i have to wait until the morning. i am hoping it is good news.

interviewed on 9/30

It is probably good news, I think they just send a letter if you were rejected. I got my call from Dr. Calloway.

so if they have moved on to the 9/30 interviews does that mean those of us who interviewed on 9/23 are sol? I felt my interviews went extremely well, as did most people, so I am a little surprised/worried I have not heard back.

I don't know this for sure, but it seems from what I have seen in previous year's forums and what I have heard through USUHS that just because later interview dates have heard back does not necessarily mean that you have been passed over. They will wait on making a decision for your fall grades, new MCAT scores, or even if one of your interviewers just turned in their notes on your interview a little slower than other interviewers. There are a lot of variables, and I wouldn't get too worried just yet.

Congratulations everyone!! I got my call from Dr. Calloway.

Any other 9/30 interviewers get called today/yesterday? I am losing my **** here!

I'll be interviewing here on Thursday. Look forward to it! Any advice everyone?

Hey UVA2K9, I interviewed on the 30th as well and did not receive a phone call this weekend. I guess we'll just have to wait until Nov 1 to hear the good news. Congratulations to everybody who got an acceptance this week. I hope to be joining you guys in celebration soon.

Be yourself, be cool and calm, yet professional. No one is there to "get" you at the interview. Know why you want to go to that school, and understand the commitment required.

Definitely know why USUHS and why military medicine. They want to know that you completely understand the pros and cons of military medicine and understand that it is different from civilian medicine and in what ways it is different. The interview (at least my experience) was not stressful at all. BE YOURSELF! DO NOT SOUND LIKE A ROBOT! Know what you are going to say as far as key points but do not rehearse your answers over and over, because you will sound like a robot instead of yourself. GOOD LUCK! :luck:

So I'm not 100% sure on this since I'm not in the admissions office and I don't know a whole lot more than any of you about the process. However, I seem to remember someone saying that they have to wait until the interviewers turn in their evaluation form and have a chance to speak to the committee about you. So if one of your interviewers was a little later, you may have ended up a little lower on the pile - it's not a bad thing, it just means they haven't gotten to you yet.

Good luck everyone :luck: and congrats to those who are accepted! 😀

At the end of our MSI year, we get a chance to look at the evaluations of our interviewers. When I looked at one of mine, he mentioned that I did better once I stopped trying to give him answers I thought he wanted to hear and opened up a bit. I totally didn't realize I had done that in my interview. It really just emphasizes to be yourself and answer honestly! 🙂

I did a mock interview at my university last semester and it was so much help. I actually forgot about it and my best friend called me from the mock interview to say I was suppose to be there. I had to rush to get there in time and so I had not even looked at any questions much less practiced. After everyone had done their mock interview the committee told me in front of everyone that I was the best interviewee and they could see me as a doctor as I was speaking!! I was shocked, so it really showed me that they want you to be yourself. Best interview practice ever, totally unprepared and still pulled it off. I AM NOT SUGGESTING THAT YOU WING IT!!! But just trying to emphasis the importance of being yourself! 🙂

That is awesome that they let you see your evaluations! I might be scared to see what they wrote about me....

okay my phone call was from dr calloway, not dr kellerman - i just misheard her on her voicemail. oops! 🙂

i got accepted today! interviewed sept 30. got the voicemail yesterday and called back this morning to get the news.

good luck to everyone still waiting.

hey everyone that got accepted thus far 🙂

It's still pretty early in the game so there is plenty of time so don't panic. I got accepted like mid-may and I'm still here studying anatomy like the rest of the people.

If anyone has questions or concerns or just wants to talk about USUHS shoot me a message! (especially if you're concerned that your stats are low or something, because I was definitely in the same boat)

So does USUHS only call to offer acceptances once a week or so, or is it truly rolling as in they can call you any time? I'm on the edge of my seat here wondering when Im likely to get called and dreading that letter in the mail.

Can anyone help?

Hi UVA2k9, I think they send out acceptances/notifications on the 1st & 15th of the month, so phones should be ringing again on Nov 1. I interviewed 9/30 too, it sucks waiting!

God I can't imagine waiting for another 7 months! I could barely wait for one and I haven't heard anything yet. I called them and they said my file hasn't been presented yet, but I don't know why that is.

To support your hypothesis, I talked to the committee and they said that my file hadn't been presented or reviewed by the adcom (interviewed sept. 20), so I hope that's the case...
