If they haven't rejected you yet, you're not out of the running! You could definitely hear something! Is your file complete?
 
I interviewed on Oct. 21 and know that I won't be hearing anything for at least a couple more weeks, but I'm just curious if the phone call comes from a 301 area code (Bethesda) or if it's a blocked number. Thanks!

All of them were uploaded to Virtual Evals, though, and my school had told me that I didn't need to do anything further to get the LORs to USUHS. I also received a postcard a few months ago telling me my file was complete.

Call them Monday. I know that AMCAS doesn't send letters to USUHS, and you have to send them in separately. Don't know anything about Virtual Evals though.
But call them, don't waste time with emails - it'll take weeks for them to get back to you.

Got the call this morning at 6:00am west coast time! Interviewed Oct 14. Navy!!
 
Can anybody tell me what the security email says? I never received it from Peter Sylvester. All I know it has the SF-86 in it. Do I have to do anything else besides fill it out and bring it with me on my interview day?

Yes, I called him, he said to send him an email and he'd forward it to me. I never got a reply from him, called again and the second time he was mad. He asked me to email him a second time, I did, still no reply. I don't want to call again. I downloaded the SF-86 just by googling it, I just don't want to miss the directions.

This has probably been discussed already, so my apologies if it has. I'm currently planning the DODMERB physical/opto appointments, but it seems like I may not be able to make them well in advance before interviewing. Does anyone know if it's alright for your DODMERB processing to not have been completed prior to interviewing? I'm looking at going in for the appointments a few days before the interview... 😕

They don't need to be complete prior to interview, but get 'em done ASAP. It takes a little while for the paperwork to go through, and if you have to remediate something (simple or otherwise) it will only take longer. Your DODMERB status is not connected with your interview/acceptance status, so it's not essential to have one finished before the other.

I interviewed on Sept. 30th and got a letter about a week ago saying they hadn't reached a decision yet - nothing about postponing or anything like that. Does everyone get these periodic updates...? What does it even mean? I figured I would have a decision from them by now. I was just notified the other day of some extra DODMERB stuff I have to send in, but I thought that was independent of acceptance/rejection status.

The DoDMERB stuff is independent of your acceptance/rejection status until April 15th (I think but I'm not 100% sure of that date, but it is around that time). I would keep optimistic since you definitely have not been rejected (that is all the you can be sure of and it is a good thing). Just keep working on stuff to improve your application and send the admissions office updates. Also consider writing a letter of intent if USUHS is your 1st choice and you would definitely accept an offer. Don't be afraid to have people write new/extra letters of recommendation if your working on anything medically or volunteer related and send them directly to USUHS (just make sure that it is something new and not just a letter saying that your continuing more of the same)

does anyone ever do the public health service option? i'm definitely considering applying to USUHS and do PHSCC because I"m actually going to have my MPH by the time I hopefully enter....
 
Citrus, in my interview group there were indeed a few people interested in PHS. The slots are pretty competitive (my understanding is that there are only usually 4 slots a year).

I'm not surprised a lot of people aren't aware of the PHS option. For me, I was only aware that the PHS was considered a uniformed service a few years ago (suddenly the Surgeon General wearing a uniform made sense) when I learned about DMAT teams under the National Response Plan. But if you already know what they do, are familiar with their responsibilities, that's awesome, and you should totally go for it. Remember though you should have some interest in either the NIAID (i.e. research!) or the Indian Health Service and have things in your rescume to back up that interest. You most certainly should also contact the admissions office for additional information so you can see if this is the route you want to to take.

I'm now a little confused because it seems like only about three Oct 7th people got called on the 1st ... Have any other people gotten calls besides Chase yesterday or today?? Nobody I've talked to has heard a peep...:scared:
 
Got the call from Dr. Calloway this afternoon for a conditional spot in Navy. Definitely my first choice, good luck everyone. See you next fall.

36O, 3.7 (3.75 science), interviewed Oct. 21st. Second time applying, I was wait-listed last year. Keep persevering, you'll reach your goals eventually. 👍

It's conditional on getting medically qualified for sure, possibly some other stuff too; but I haven't received any of my paperwork in the mail yet so I have no idea what... I think everyone gets a conditional offer before they receive an unconditional one at USUHS, though there could be exceptions I guess.

Its conditional on DoDMERB approval but since I am a reapplicant I was approved already, hopefully the unconditional follows it soon.

Other than that, and a little bit of additional volunteering at a clinic I don't have much to update them on, so maybe I'll wait till January?

I wouldn't update them about being accepted to the Navy HSCP or volunteering unless it is something new. If your volunteering has changed in some way, you have new responsibilities or you are volunteering somewhere different, than it would definitely be worthwhile to update them. It probably wouldn't hurt to send a letter about why you are excited about USUHS and that you look forward to being invited to an interview (or something like that). Make sure it is on things specific to USUHS, ie so you can't just change the name and apply it to the Navy HSCP or any other medical school. Good luck and I hope you get an interview invite soon!
 
Does anyone have the number to the Admissions Office? I need to call them IMMEDIATELY, regarding my application, but I seem to have misplaced it. HALP!

Thanks Ranna! You too AJski! You're both lifesavers! Big, juicy cherry ones! The kinds we used to trade all the icky green ones for in elementary school, and if I'm being honest, the early parts of middle school!
 
The office has been kind of difficult. I was invited for an interview over a month ago and never received any emails with the security form or where to get physicals! I got the security form now, but just waiting on where to get the physical...

I interviewed there last year and this year and was never sent the security forms so I wouldn't worry about that too much. You will get a letter in the mail for an organization called Concorde who you schedule your physicals through, last year I didn't receive my letter until a week after my interview. Don't worry about it too much as it doesn't make any difference in their review of your application until April. If you haven't received your physical paperwork by the day of your interview go and talk to Rebecca Patterson about it and she will be able to help you. Good luck with your interview and hopefully you get that paperwork soon!

Just to emphasize- this part is a small issue. If your commander says you're good, and the [branch] agrees, then you're golden. I did this and it was by far the easiest paperwork wise, so I'm sure you're good (I don't have a copy with me but it's in my service record). Might just be this way for the Navy, but i don't think so.

Man.. now I'm getting nervous with you guys getting acceptances. I also interviewed the 14th but didn't receive a call. Did you write a letter of intent? I honestly didn't know that this was something I should consider doing. The school is definitely one of my top choices.

I'm super-sad 😕. I interviewed the week before that and no call yet. No letter of any kind, but no call either. Does anyone know when the next time is likely to be that they send out waitlist/rejection/alternate letters? The last batch seems to have gone out Nov. 4th-ish.

Imagine how I feel, I interviewed way back September 23rd and haven't heard anything at all from them. I think it's time to assume the worst for me....

Army - Officer Basic Course (OBC) - sometimes called BOLC, and OLBC as well

Navy - Officer Indoctrination School (OIS)

Air Force - Commissioned Officer Training (COT)

Public Health Service - Officer Basic Course (OBC)

Navy is actually called Officer Development School (ODS) now. They decided Indoctrination had a negative connotation to it...
