Can someone send me the security form too?
Thanks alot!

Can anyone who has their unconditional acceptance tell me what USUHS had before they gave it to you? I am medically qualified, my security paperwork is in and there shouldn't be any problems with it, I'm not waiting for any grades as I graduated in 2009, I sent out the form to reserve a spot and have requested transcripts from my college. I don't expect to get one today or anything, just curious as to what they wait for before offering an unconditional acceptance.

Chase, I got my conditional acceptance in the mail on Oct 22nd (by that time, I was already cleared by the DoDMERB and my security paperwork was handed in on the 9/23 interview). I received my unconditional acceptance letter on Nov 5th, so there is a bit of time to wait. Feels like ages though!

Hang in there! Leave chocolate for your postal carrier 🙂

ditto. The only thing I did between the conditional and unconditional letters was request transcripts from my undergrad college (Graduated May 2010.) The unconditional letter came with a note saying they hadn't received my transcript yet. They are probably just taking their time with all the background checks. Just sit tight 👍

Suncrusher, it should be coming soon. I think the only reason I got my unconditional was because I called them about not receiving my conditional (I wrote my home zipcode down instead of my school one lol). When I was on the phone with Ms. Hamlette, she looked at my file, saw that I medically qualified, and said she'd send out my unconditional letter. So once they go through your file and see your DoDMERB results, they'll probably send it out. Or you could call them to make sure they received those two forms you signed to hold your spot in the class..and then inquire about the unconditional.

good idea; thank you : )

Edit: wow, I got my unconditional in the mail a few hours after writing these posts. I have the best and worst timing of anyone I know. Kind of embarrassing, really...

Can somebody PM me the security clearance form. I still have not received it.

Thank You!

scroll up.

Did anyone else think their eye exam went badly? The guy was only with me like five minutes and I could barely read the letters of the chart (I am near sighted but not severely so). He refused to tell me my vision at the end. eek.

My vision test was pretty weird too, I wouldn't worry about it too much. I don't wear glasses and have never had any vision problems in the past and they told me I have some vision problem that I have never heard of and said they couldn't tell me more about it because of the type of the appointment... No problems with DoDMERB though, didn't have to get a waiver or anything. If you have to get a waiver for being nearsighted it should be really easy as their are many people at USUHS who wear glasses.

I'm starting to read conflicting info about what happens after the conditional offer. Is this correct?

1. Sign Conditional Offer and mail to USUHS along with official transcripts
2. USUHS makes sure the student is medically qualified
3. USUHS does a criminal background check
4. Student is given an unconditional offer
5. Student has a blood test, HIV test, and another test (that I can't remember right now but was stated in the conditional offer)
6. During officer training, DoD does a background screening and student gets a secret clearance.

My worst fear is to get a letter from a DoD background investigator saying that I'm unfit for a secret clearance for some asinine reason...like I was too friendly to foreign nationals while I was in college or partied too hard...

That looks mostly correct from what I know. The only thing you won't have to do is a blood test, HIV test, etc. The only thing I ever sent in after my unconditional was my official transcripts. For Navy they did the HIV and other tests at ODS (not sure about the other services, but I would assume it was the same).
Army has some paperwork that you'd have to fill out in the spring (don't remember what service you chose), but Navy doesn't, not sure about AF. Everyone will get commissioning paperwork and you'll commission before officer training, but that's way ahead of where you are right now.

I've never heard of anyone "failing" the background check.

Thanks that makes me feel better. The guy was kind of rude and I was really worried.

I filled out the form for a student host, but it is not looking like I am gonna get one for my interview next week. Where are people staying that is CHEAP?

Definitely find a place to make reservations, but make sure it is somewhere you can cancel. My host called me on the Tuesday afternoon before my interview so you may have a host that just hasn't called you yet.

It seems like there is nowhere cheap right around the school - maybe if you stayed farther away? I wanted to stay with a host as well and they never found anyone for me - very frustrating because up until Tuesday afternoon it was still unconfirmed as to whether I had a host or not. Ended up staying at the American Inn, which I had reserved ahead of time in case this happens. Very close to the campus, which is nice, but it still was very expensive (although cheaper than the other hotels mentioned on the forms that USUHS provides in the interview invite email). Good luck!!

Did the shuttle work for getting to campus from American Inn or did you take a taxi?

i was planning on taking the shuttle but i ended up meeting a fellow interviewee in the hotel lobby the morning of the interview - she was taking a taxi so i just shared with her. the taxi took us straight to the building where we needed to be. however, we did have to pull off at the entrance to the campus/hospital and step out of the cab to have it searched briefly. i'm guessing this is standard, although i'm not sure if it would be the same for the shuttle. this would have been no big deal except that it was pouring rain so we were trying not to get our suits soaked while standing under a tiny umbrella. hopefully the weather will be better for you though!!

I took a taxi, but security turned the taxi around at the gate and I had to walk to the main building, hopefully with the colder weather they've stopped making interviewees walk. Best of luck on your interview.

For any re-applicants that have interviewed: did you have to fill out the SF-86 again? My security email from last year infers that if you have been processed for a security clearance previously you may not have to submit the form again- just provide updates. I have yet to receive a security email this year in advance of my interview on 12/9.

Any input is appreciated.

Yes you have to fill out the SF-86 again. USUHS doesn't process it if you aren't accepted. It should be really easy though if you saved a copy. I did and just had to update a few addresses so it took like 5 minutes.

Got a snail mail letter Black Friday that I have been waitlisted.

Interviewed 9/30 3.65 cum GPA 3.69 sci GPA 31O MCAT no prior service.

I received a letter for USU earlier this month saying that they have decided to postpone making a decision. I interviewed Sept 23rd, and the letter basically said the committee has reviewed my application but is waiting to make a decision and will do so by January 15th. I am not in school, so they are not waiting on my grades. This isn't a waiting list situation correct? And has USU sent out rejection letters yet or is this letter basically a rejection letter?

I don't think USUHS does rejections based on the blue sheet they gave us at the interview. It says Acceptance Conditional or Unconditional, Waitlist, Alternate List, and Hold. From what I've read there is strong evidence indicating Waitlist >> than alternate list. A hold I guess is just that they can't decide.

Kitty, I would recommend sending a letter of interest. I think it's safe to say that USUHS is many people's safety school. Sending a letter of interest reiterating why military medicine, what about the school appeals to you, etc. wouldn't hurt. Good luck and sorry to hear about being put on hold.

Ok, I am posting this mainly as a way to "do something", because sitting around waiting is driving me nuts. I got word my secondary was complete last Tuesday (11/23). I am currently active duty AF officer, aero engineering undergrad, 3.6 cgpa, 3.45 sgpa, 29Q, hospital ER volunteer. I know my stats are a little below the averages, and I'm late in the cycle (b/c I seriously underestimated how long it would take professors to send in letters and for USUHS admissions to process them...). Anyhoo... do I have any shot for an interview, or should I just plan for next year? I know I can do much better on the mcat, when I took it i was in the middle of BIO classes and hadn't had BIO in about 8 years.

Argh all this waiting is driving me nuts.

You definitely have a shot for an interview. I had the same problem with my secondary last year... had a professor who promised to write me a letter of rec suddenly disappear off the face of the earth. Anyways, I got an interview, it was the vary last interview day so it was less than ideal. I ended up being put on the alternate list because I had very little clinical experience but my stats were pretty similar to yours other than the clinical stuff. It's best to have an early interview but people from every interview day have a shot. I think that things may have been different for me if I would have sent a letter of intent and kept them updated last year like I did this year. Long story short, just keep them updated on anything new that you do and keep your fingers crossed because it isn't over until it's over. :xf:

Thanks a lot. That's what I was hoping for! So, as for "keeping them updated..." I had clinical experience when I first submitted my application, but since then I was transferred to the ER and I've gotten a LOT more. I've gotten to assist some doctors with patients, etc, and I think one would be willing to write a letter on my behalf if I asked. I think this would be much stronger than the volunteer coordinator's "she's awesome, has logged XX hours, blah blah" letter. Would that be something I could use to supplement my file, or should I just write a letter/email with some of my recent volunteer experiences? I REALLY want this, so anything I can do to bump myself up can't hurt? Any advice helps :-/

Definitely have another letter written for you if you have someone in mind who will write a positive one, or at the very least let them know how your volunteering has changed. I would probably talk to the doc who will write the letter of rec for you, once you know the doc is ready to send it email the admin office to let them know what you are doing in the ER, your excitement for USU, and that a letter will be coming soon on your behalf. Good luck!

afdoc, as far as stats go, you definitely have a chance. i recently was accepted and i have a 3.7 gpa, 3.55 science gpa, and 29R. i do have a lot of experience, however, having been out of school for 3+ years now. but hopefully this encourages you.

I got the call on Tuesday the 16th that I've been offered conditional acceptance to USUHS in the Air Force. The only problem is that it has been two weeks and I still have not received any documents in the mail that I need to sign and return in order to reserve a seat in the class. I called today to ask, but the woman who handles that sort of thing was out today. Has anyone else had this problem?

I interviewed on October 21st

For those interested, my stats are: 3.55 science GPA, 3.45 non-science GPA, 33O MCAT and biomedical engineering undergrad

My letters were sent to the wrong address, so I didn't get mine for about a month after I got the acceptance call. Around the two week deadline, I called the office and was e-mailed the acceptance forms, which I faxed over. Just keep calling to check up, they are really understanding and helpful!

have you all heard back yet?

By my count, of the November 15th calls, only two were for Oct. 21 interviewees, (one was a re-applicant, idk if those go through quicker), and another 2-3 people were Oct. 14th interviewees.

They may have made it through all of the Oct. 21 interviewees, or they may have just called some of them; I have no idea. Keep the faith 🙂

I have to wait until they get to November 18th interviews 😉

...Where are people staying that is CHEAP?

I just wanted to let everyone know that I got a GREAT deal on the Doubletree Bethesda. I interview on December 9th and I will be arriving Dec 7 and leaving Dec 11. The original plan was to stay the Dec 7 through Dec 10 in Bethesda and then stay in an airport hotel the night of Dec 11. The AAA rate for the Doubletree was $188 per night. But when I added the fourth night, the nightly rate plummeted, since the 10th is a Friday, I guess. Anyway, I booked for $72.67 per night! This is hands-down the best deal I have encountered ANYWHERE nearby, including DC, Rockville, Bethesda, Arlington, etc.

😀

I was just waitlisted. Interviewed in October. 3.5 undergrad sGPA; 4.0 graduate GPA (MPH); 31S; I have extensive experience working abroad and domestically but no prior military service. Really thought I was gonna get accepted...graduated college 4+ years ago

BobbyBarnes - when in October did you interview? Did you get a call about being waitlisted or just a letter? Thanks for the info!

Definitely will be keeping the faith! Good luck to you, I'll be praying for the both of us! I'm hoping that being patient has its rewards!

BobbyBarnes, keep your hopes up. Remember that the waitlist for this school moves, its just a bummer that you will have to wait until March to hear back from this school. Good luck!

have you all heard back yet?

I interviewed on 10/21, and I got a call earlier today offering me a conditional acceptance into the Air Force. It was easily the most excited I've been in a long time.

I remember at our interview though that they said it may be January before we heard anything, so they may be gradually getting through our interview date. I'm sure there are plenty more acceptances to come! Good luck!

Congratulations wahngjasnowy! Hope to see you next fall at USU 👍

Hey everyone, just received an interview about a week or so ago. I'm kinda irked because my decision to interview was based off of me agreeing to take a physics 2 course next semester (my physics course was 1 and 2 combined... but only 4 hours RGHH)... and the woman at admissions said she never got the email... 30 days after I sent it... so I was delayed a month.

Anyways... just wanted to know... I'm a current Air Force ROTC cadet right now. When I interview... should I wear my service dress uniform, or stick to my charcoal interview suit, white shirt, and power tie lol? And am I guaranteed to go Air Force if I'm an Air Force cadet currently? How does this all work out. I'm really not too picky about what service I go into (one team one fight eh?) but It would make sense that since I've already been thru Air Force Officer Training... that they would keep me Air Force... for continuity purposes.

Thanks

Also, do they look favorably on prior service folks? How does this all work out.

I'm not sure about the uniform question. Are you prior service, or Air Force ROTC, or both? To me, prior service implies active duty time. I was Air Force enlisted for 6 years, and am of a mind that while your ROTC time is important, it doesn't really count for as much until you've been out in the operational world. Just food for thought.

I believe the interview packet recommends you wear your uniform. I think wearing a suit when you are officially associated (reserves/ROTC) with the military sends the wrong message. You want to convey that you are proud of being associated with the military. There were several Army and AF ROTC people in uniform when I interviewed.
