Come on waitlist, lets see some movement this week!

Also, with the waiver process, Rebecca will contact us if we need to supply additional information, correct? I don't want to bug her if there is nothing that she can tell me. I am sure it is a busy time for her.

Wait... does that mean you were accepted from waitlist?

no, not yet, expect to hear something soon hopefully, got a minor snag with medical which is already cleared and been sent up on the fully-medically cleared list for unconditional acceptance (ostensibly). Just did EVMS interview with a former army medic/ranger who was accepted at USUHS, great guy, had fun laughing at an applicant who was quoting C-3PO all day.

previous question, yes, Rebecca will let you know if anything comes up, but it doesn't hurt to email/call if you know there are outstanding issues. She's very good and is there to help us.

RLTW!

Applicants quoting C-3PO... That's why they have interviews.

that was the weirdest thing he did all day, but he was pretty much on-fire from the start. Some poor guy from UCSD was nice enough to talk to C-3PO and for the rest of the day, was his R2D2 whether he wanted it or not.

Yes, interviews indeed stats/applications only say so much.

I had my remedial over a month ago, but concorde keeps sending me emails telling me that I need to go to my appointment (even though everything was updated properly on their website). I called them 3 times, and all 3 times they assured me that I was fine and that the emails would stop... and they haven't. I've tried calling Rebecca twice, but had to leave a voicemail both times.

I'm conditionally accepted, but I would hate for something as silly as paperwork issues to keep me from getting an unconditional... anyone else having trouble dealing with Concorde that has some advice (or even a similar story? since misery loves company).

If you must know I had 4 remedials and one of them said I deferred the rectal exam which I did not so I had to get another external evaluation. The other remedial was an appointment with my dermatologist so I asked him to give me an external rectal exam in addition to my dermatological evaluation. The first of this month after I thought i completed all my remedials guess what remedial was still not complete...The rectal exam (sigh).

Okay, fine. I should stop complaining 🙂

A few questions about the second look weekend for people who are going...
Did you guys receive any sort of confirmation after you RSVP'd?
Any thoughts on a dress code?
Where are you all staying?

I'm going to the second look fair. I got a confirmation that they got my rsvp because I asked them to reply with a blank email and N. Knight@usuhs did. I'm just gonna dress casual. Also I'm gonna deny anything about an sdn account because of having to repeat my rectal exam several times. The real me could be anyone... including the guy with the mustache.

Haha, I'm so sorry you have had to repeat that horrible, horrible, part of the exam!

Which e-mail address did you all send your confirmation emails to? Anyone know if they will send us the base access cards prior to Second Look? Also, anyone on the waitlist like me going?

I'm on the Waitlist and I am going. Did anyone else receive an correspondence after RSVP'ing or should we just assume that they got our RSVP email?

If anyone wants to buy a copy of the documentary Fighting for Life, it's on sale right now! I just got an email from the company that sells it and since I already have a copy I figured I would let everyone else know. Just go to Americanfilmfoundation.com and enter the code: 25SALE at checkout and you will get 25% off and free shipping.

Or you could just go to the second look weekend, I hear that watching the movie is part of the scheduled events.

I recommend dressing like the interview. I got no confirmation, but i'm sure they got my RSVP, that is how they roll. I'm staying at the Marriott, pretty close by, busy weekend for sure. I think it'll be good, doing the whole med school visit thing is part of the fun of actually having this huge goal come to fruition.

On second thought, i might wear my wolf t-shirt and satchel.

Careful, I heard that the ladies find those shirts irresistible. If you do wear it, make sure to find a pair of pants that can handle that amount of awesome. I've had great experiences with these:

At my second look they were quite clear that the dress is business casual.

Although, if they haven't said anything I'm sure people will show up in a range of clothing choices.

you say that's for sure because it was one form of business and why you have to comment like that .

Yes, can business is be have many form, how is you that say sure can be? 😉

EDIT: Well, Angel18's post was deleted, which takes away from the whole thing, but I enjoy the outstanding grammar enough that I'm going to leave it.

hey everybody, i look forward to meeting some of you at second look. i emailed the office about attire and they sent an email saying business casual. hope this helps.

Has anyone that interviewed 1/27 or thereabouts heard anything yet? It's been 8ish weeks since (Dr. Calloway said it would be 8 to 10), so I'm just curious. Of course, having interviewed so late in the cycle, I'm not getting my hopes up, not to mention I would also have to get a medical waiver.

On another note, for those of you accepted and waitlisted I will be organizing a sky/cliff/cave diving, hang gliding, rock climbing, yachting trip of the coast of Somalia, all expenses paid.

Seriously though, congratulations. But if you would like to withdraw and matriculate elsewhere, that would be great too!

I interviewed that day as well and am anxiously waiting (have religiously checked my mail box every day since the interview). I also will need a medical waiver even if I am accepted. :luck::luck: to both of us!

Hey guys. For those headed to USUHS with an S.O., where are you planning on living? Any resources for apartment hunting besides Craigslist? Where do most current students live?

I know I am on the waitlist because of an email but I still haven't gotten my letter. ugh. I am so tired of checking my mail relgiously.

I'm looking primarily in Gaithersburg and Rockville, from what I have heard most married students live in Gaithersburg. I've been using Craigslist as well and Trulia.com. Neither works all that great, but I am finding places (though at this point most of them are available too early). The spouses club at USUHS releases a list of housing that they have just updated that is a good place to look, http://www.usuhs.mil/ssc/housing.html Goodluck finding a place and post it if you find a better resource to look for housing!

Hi all. I got accepted from the Army waitlist today (3/25).

I interviewed on 11/18 and was put on hold some time in Jan. Stats were roughly 30/3.5 with solid research and clinical experiences. Best of luck to you all.

Hi potential MS1 usuhs students!

So im a graduating usuhs student (class of 2011!) and if you have any questions feel free to ask.

And, I'm doing my landlady a favor and posting this - I'm moving out of my place around mid-june and hoping to find another usuhs person. Ive lived here for 4 years and loved it, its in bethesda, decent sized apt with lots of perks close to school and under BAH! Let me know if you'd be interested via email ([email protected]) or for any usuhs related Q's.

BTW - gaithersburg is a bit far, just with all the traffic - most of the people i know moved closer after first year, unless you have a bunch of kids and want land to run around in. There are reasonable places to live much closer usually within rockville thats less than 30min commute.

I was waitlisted originally b/c my medical waiver had to be processed, so I know the agony those on WL are going through! Hang in there! These next months go by so fast!

For those who have been accepted: has anyone received the formal invitation to 2nd look that was supposed to be mailed? And if you have, are there any extra details on it that would be good to know, besides what is already listed online? I got the email on 3/11 saying the formal invites were coming but then I never got one...

Anyway, looking forward to meeting y'all next weekend!

I am unconditionally accepted (as of last week!) and I received the mailed invitation. There isn't anything new at all, but this is what it says:

"The F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine
and
Dean Larry W. Laughlin, M.D., Ph.D.

cordially invite you to

Second Look Weekend 2011
Friday, April 1st-Saturday, April 2nd

Please visit www.usuhs.mil/adm/secondlook for more information.

Register online
(a link is provided that is on the above website)
by Wednesday, March 23rd.

*Financial assistance may be available. Inquire at [email protected]"

And that's it.

To save you time, I sent an email in regards to financial assistance and you have to either be listed as "disadvantaged" on your AMCAS, or have to be under-represented in medicine as defined by AMCAS guidelines, in order to potentially getting financial assistance.

If you go next weekend, I'll see you there!

Hello,

Does anyone here know what is the latest you can withdraw your application. Can you do this even after attending officer training? What are the ramifications of doing this.
I heard this happens some years where the student has to do officer training the following year.

Exactly 8 weeks from yesterday since my interview (1/27), should be hearing back any day now......

......*runs to mail box*

As far as I know, once you commission into your service then you're in (its a signed contract between you and your service). You would do this before officer training, so the latest you could withdrawal would be the middle of June.
The only people I've heard that did officer training the following year were the people that were accepted after officer training began.

So I'm going to the second look weekend this Friday and I didn't want to bother the admissions office anymore than I already have, so I was wondering if anyone had gotten any more information about this weekend? Do we need any special paperwork to get onto base? Has anyone gotten a detailed schedule of the weekend?

For those still waiting for a waiver website is back online. Apparently we have to register again. At least we don't have to incessantly bug Rebecca 24 hour status checks.

I wish I didn't have to deal with this process at all! I have tree pollen allergies... Will this prevent me from serving as a doctor? Apparently, it might.

I'm guessing everyone invited to the second look got the email from Nashieka Knight. Also I got the letter in the mail with the base access cards for me and my guest.

I'm going 🙂 Waiting to get my letter in the mail. I really don't like cutting it this close 🙁

got the email this morning. Still waiting to get the base pass

This is what the email said

We have mailed base passes to most of you and have
arranged base access for you and your guests. If you do not receive your
base passes, don’t worry. Your names will be on the base access list.

I was just curious where people were staying in terms of hotels for second look. Anyone have suggestions I am not getting a car so any place close to the metrorail would be ideal.

Food for thought on the attire, being from Florida 45 degrees is pretty cold to me so I am leaning toward the suit minus the tie. Hopefully one of you can do the same so I am not peer pressured into being cold in order to fit in.

I'm staying with my cousin in Rockville so I can't help you too much on the hotel thing.

I will probably bring my suit jacket as I have no intentions of wearing a dress/skirt - even though I've been in Philly the last couple years, I'm still a Cali girl at heart haha.

So no, you wont be the only one 🙂

I have a question not related to the 2nd look weekend, but about the Service Preference Statement.

I'm wondering about the check box that says: "I have no preference among the four services. If selected by the SOM, I will accept whichever appointment is offered me."

Could checking it increase the speed at which one might be accepted off the waitlist?

Yes, it could because you should be considered for a spot opening in any service rather than just the one of your preference. Chances are highest that the position would be with Army, but technically it could be Navy or Air Force too.

I would be careful with that though because Army Medicine =/= Navy Medicine =/= Air Force Medicine. If one makes you happy that doesn't mean the other two will. Goodluck. :xf:

what did everyone think of second look weekend? I'm most interested in opinions of this new curriculum.

I didn't get to go to second look, was wondering how it went? What all did they have to say about the new curriculum?
