don't think that's true. i know a girl whose family is spanish (as in from spain) and she was awarded a national hispanic scholarship.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but does the National Hispanic Scholarship have anything to do with URM status for med school applications?

Snarkalark said:
yeah but my point was that in this case, urm status was derived not from puerto rico or mexico, but instead from a country in western europe.

Nope.

AAMC website said:
...the AAMC used the term "underrepresented minority (URM)," which consisted of Blacks, Mexican-Americans, Native Americans (that is, American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians), and mainland Puerto Ricans.

i don't know what the policies are for med school; i was just citing an example about the general concept of urm as a status.

Also to defend Snarkalark, the URM source that you got was from a 2007 post that states that those classifications were done before 2003.

Maybe times have changed from those years (maybe not), but I'm just stating that it might not be the best source. Nevertheless, I got my source from a recent URM interview.

Withdrew my acceptance from UACOM Tucson today. Very sad I won't be attending UA but hope this means one more person gets good news the next round.

I strongly encourage everyone who has been accepted to multiple schools this year to withdraw as early as possible from those you know you won't be attending. It's the only considerate thing to do for those still in waiting limbo.

Thank you! I am extremely appreciative, UA is my number one choice. I will definitely withdraw from my other schools once I hear from them. 😀

No news from Tucson yet today... Fridays are now more stressful than they should be...

Tka are you saying that you received the acceptance today already? And does that mean the day is done for the rest of us?

**edit - Stupid question. Thanks Solid

I'm breaking a cardinal rule by checking my e-mail every 5 minutes while at the gym. I'd love to hear from U of A today! At the risk of sounding pathetic I got a gift card to The Hat Club for Christmas and I've been waiting to use it until I hear back and can proudly buy myself a Wilcat hat upon acceptance!

It's cool. I've been planning on buying the UACOM hoodie from the bookstore immediately after acceptance if/when I ever get one.

I think Tucson has been sending out acceptances around 11am AZ time. Unfortunately, this might mean that we have to wait until next time.

But you never know, maybe they are late today!

i think odds are at least one of the 30 acceptances will be someone on SDN. at least i keep telling myself that as i stare at an empty inbox..

I think we'll all be refreshing our inboxes until the end of the day-or until we hear something.

Can't someone call and simply check if acceptances have already gone out today? I would but they're probably quite bored of me by now

Do all Tucson acceptances on a given day go out simultaneously?

yeah, this is painful.

Good thing I have push email to my phone... However, it sucks to have to keep checking SDN to see if they went out.

I really wish UofA would reject people who will definitely not make their waitlist, instead of having us wait for 8+ months

There is always the option to take a nap ^^.
Naps, nature's way of fastforwarding through the day.

and not have a wait list that goes out to like 130.

Anyone know if today is officially the day or are they waiting til next week? I tried calling using the number on their site and it said the number had been disconnected, anyone know what the admissions telephone number is?

Agreed! I hate getting my hopes up for a UA acceptance, when there is still a chance I might not even make the waitlist.

Rep. Giffords was transferred from Tucson earlier today and is on her way to Houston. Just a guess: That could have affected workflow in the offices.

When I called (7 times), it went to the voicemail.

I just called Tucson, and they said that acceptances won't be going out till next week. Good luck to everyone waiting to hear back!

Now that we know that... On to the weekend! Anyone have any great plans? I am going to a ladies tea & body worlds. (Odd weekend, I know.)

I'm going to Mt. Lemmon and going sledding. There's still snow at the top!

props for this info. did they say when next week (like, next friday)? i would like to know how long i have to walk around in a fog of anxiety.

I truly appreciate the UofA financial aid department taking an interest in our futures. But holy cow did the sudden email get my heart going.

Nothing from UofA admissions. Just a friendly reminder of financial aid concerns.

Haha, that financial aid e-mail got my heart racing as well. Such dirty timing!

Cross country skiiing and training for a mountaineering thing I have coming up. At least I can work off some of the stress/anxiety, I guess...

Here's to next week! Good luck to everyone!!

They didn't say any specific date - just sometime next week. Past releases were on both Thursday and a Friday so I'm assuming late next week...

You mean that the release dates were on Thursdays in past seasons? Because Tucson has only had one wave of acceptances this season.

I believe that there were two waves in December.

There was a previous post on this thread mentioning two release dates in December, but I only remember acceptances going out around 12/16...with the next batch to be released mid-January.

Can anyone confirm?

There were two Tucson acceptances out in Dec, so only two have been done so far. One was supposed to be mid-Jan, one mid-Feb, then final wait/reject lists in mid-March.

Edit: First was the 3rd, second was the 16th. (I spend way too much time checking this thread, so I'm positive.)

so if the only other one is in february and they've so far accepted 30 in december and (soon to be) 30 in january, does that mean the final date releases 75 spots or do they release some in march at the same time as the waitlist?

I have no idea, maybe they will say if you call? I'm not sure if that number of 30 having been accepted so far is correct. 😕

Just called Tucson. They said that acceptances are going out midweek this week.

Thanks, hopefully it's 30 or less.🙂

I think it might be more than 30. I have heard that UA-Tucson accepts around 30 ppl each cycle and if thats true then they would have accepted 60 by now. But that number seems really big and I have not been able to confirm that.

A friend in my lab that got in on the mid-December wave of acceptances said that her wave was roughly 10 people...I'm not sure if this is something that they said in the acceptance email or where she gets her numbers, but I can check.

yeah i'm not sure if it was exactly 30 total, but it sure wasn't 30 each round or we'd have a lot more happy people on this thread.

I spoke with the admissions office roughly a week ago and was told there were two waves in December totaling roughly 30 acceptances (12+15).
