How strange, I didn't get an email.. just saw the invite online... hmmm.. congrats though! 🙂

Just curious, for the Statement of Legal Residence Form, why do they care about your parents? Do your parents' statuses affect your status as a CA resident? 😕
they do if you are considered their dependent

Where do I find this statement of legal residence form? Is there anything else we need to bring to the interview?

Hmm... well I'm not considered dependent on my parents (I've moved out a while ago and claim "independent" on my taxes), but since I'm not yet 24, they still want my parents' info. I've been considered a CA resident my whole life, so I'm not worried, I was just curious.

On your status page their should be a link.

I wrote the letter in the body of the email. I am too paranoid about attachments 😛.

Congrats to the folks who interviewed today! It was cool chatting with u in the colloquium room & seeing you around campus. U guys rocked it.

Good luck :luck:

Anyone been accepted from the Oct. 4th interview date. I have not heard anything yet and am starting to worry.

I also wrote it in the body of the email. I figure if you send it as an attachment, that increases the chances that someone may not actually open it and read it. Also, writing directly into email makes it a bit more informal, which I like.

Bpost --

did you send your letter to: [email protected] ?

I sent it over a week ago but haven't received a reply. I think you said they replied to you a few days later. I just want to be sure I sent it to the right place. I'm so glad you received an interview. That gives me hope! Good luck!

Yes, that's the email address I sent it to. They sent me back a reply within 3 days. I'm sure they'll email you back soon, if not I suppose you could call just to be sure they received it.

How come some people received interview invites via email while others just had a change in status?

haha I know bpost. not sure why it's like that, but hey an interview invite is an interview invite!

Hey how far along is irvine in giving interviews? Is there any hope for those submitting in September?

I'm a little confused about the SLR (sorry if these are dumb questions). So are we filling out this form assuming we will be accepted for the 2011-2012 year, correct? So the whole "If you are/will be 24 years of age by December 31st, you are not required to provide information regarding your parents," do they mean by Dec 24, 2011?

And on the form, everywhere they ask information about "This Calendar Year," does this mean 2010-2011 or 2011-2012? 😕

Since we're not yet accepted students, we leave "Student Identification Number" blank, right? I filled this out for undergrad at UCI, but I'm assuming you have to fill out a new one for med school.

Glad to know I'm not the only one!!! 🙂

Just out of curiosity...

My parents moved to California about three years ago, but I decided to stay at my current school (out of state). My driver's license, car registration, basically almost everything is out of state. However, my parents (now legal residents of California) claimed me as a dependent. Has anyone else in this situation been granted in-state status even if you yourself hadn't lived in California for a year?

Any new acceptances lately? I wonder when the second wave of acceptances is coming out...

they do if you are considered their dependent

Actually grad students are automatically considered independent. But they still do ask parents info. I never understood why though🙁

Glad to know I'm not the only one!!! 🙂

don't know about the office but we don't have school tomorrow. It was their gift to us for Thanksgiving🙂 After 8 weak/8 exams period🙂

Accepted!!!!! Got the call earlier today. Interviewed first week October.

accepted!! got a voice-mail earlier today =D

Interviewed on 10/18 - finally getting some luck with acceptances after an entire month of rejections/and continued lists

Congrats guys!!!

Lemme know if I can be of any help as u guys are deciding.

Accepted. Interview 8/1. Out of state applicant.
Got the call today. Good luck everyone

Yeah I knew UCI was gonna give some acceptances today. Right before the Holiday and it seemed like some were waiting for awhile awhile since they interviewed. OHSU, are you doing mstp program?

No, I applied MD only. That was why I was very surprised to get accepted from out of state.

haha yeah I am surprised too. OOS acceptances at UCI are difficult to come buy. I would only expect MD/PhD applicants to have a good shot.

Can somebody please send me the statement of legal residence form. I never received it via attachment nor is it on their website.

Thank you very much!!

nevermind. its in the interview instructions pdf. there is a link in there for anyone who cant find it. 😀

Would anyone mind sharing their interview experience? 🙂

I have a few questions:

1. What kinds of activities do they have planned for you during the interview day? Do they have the interviews over with early, or are they spread out?
2. I'm sure it depends, but do the student and faculty interviews ask the same questions, or do they emphasize different things?
3. Both interviews are open file, correct?
4. Do they tell you ahead of time who your interviewers are? Is there any more information they send you before the interview day? I never even got an email invitation (just a status update), just want to make sure I'm not missing anything.
5. Any tips/words of advice?

Thanks!!! This will be my second interview, but my first interview was MMI style. For some reason I'm more nervous for the one-on-one traditional style!

The interview day is pretty typical of other schools: opening discussion with the dean, students come and talk about their school, financial aid presentation, and a tour of the facilities including the simulation center. Then you get lunch and go eat with your student interviewer (we ate outside on a bench). The student interview was informal, and he told me he read the stuff I wrote in my app, but he didn't know my grades/score (he also said he didn't want to know). Basically, I think they just want to get to know you and see how you fit with their school. The faculty interview takes place on campus or at the medical center. So ~1/3 of us jumped on the shuttle to the med center (which is awesome btw). I'm not sure if my faculty interviewer knew my grades/scores, but he was very familiar with my application. I had a great interview experience, and my student and faculty interviewers made very good impressions. I'm stoked to be attending UCI next year.

Edit: The day ended after the faculty interview when the shuttle dropped us off in the parking lot. Kind of an abrupt end, but after being their all day I was ready to go home.

1. interviews are later on in the afternoon. much of the morning is like orientation/Q&A
2. same questions - usually about why you want to be a doctor and your specific activities (research, shadowing, volunteering), occasional health care questions...
3. Yes open file though I don't think they know your scores. It seemed like both of them assumed I had much higher scores than I did which was a bit nerve-wracking...
4. No they don't tell you who your interviewers are. And even if they did, it would be pretty freaky for you to google them beforehand and pretty stupid to try to "tailor" your responses to what you think your individual interviewers might want to hear. There was a bunch of residency stuff/photos that they ask you to bring if you're a cali resident
5. Chill, don't talk yourself up or down too much. Be honest, humble, and excited about California/UCI. And remember, if you get in, then wonderful...if you don't, then it's not because you are unqualified...you simply might not "match" the school.

I agree that this is one of the best things you can do.

Hi all! New member here! Has anyone who interviewed in Nov. and beyond received a decision yet? It is my understanding that UCI doesn't notify u if you have been placed on the alternate list, so check your status.

Hi fellow SDNers! I've been stalking this thread for a while. My application was complete 8/23, and I went from "pending review" to a blank for over a week. I called UCI today and was told that it's a transitional state, but she checked my file and said I got denied.+pity+

I'm going to follow your advice and write a letter of interest.

I interviewed Nov 1st. No acceptance or wait list yet. =/

I've checked my status maybe twice a month since I was complete at the end of August, and it's been blank every time I've checked. This is probably not good then.... definitely not having as much luck with UCs as I did when applying for undergrad. It was so fun and easy back then! Those were the days.

If you are rejected, you can really send a letter of interest and they will reconsider you?

bagel, applicants are interviewed at UCI literally until March for seats. As for the letter of interest, I'm not sure personally. But hey seems like you're doing well in this application cycle so far, so that's nice.

According to last year's thread, they do consider letters of appeal. The lady on the phone also said it is possible. But I think a blank status is a glitch more than anything; I read in this thread that someone got an invite after receiving a blank. Hopefully yours isn't bad news like mine. Good luck:xf:

Yes, undergrad application . . . those were definitely the days!

kech when did they tell your group that you would receive a notification? before december break or in january?

Does your status on the website show anything?

No, nothing. My admission status is blank. But they did say we would hear from them this month if not definitely by early January, so we should still be ok 🙂
