Complete mid-Oct, Int Invite mid-Nov. I'm especially thankful for this invite because UCSD is interviewing me for the second time - I'm a reapp. Good luck everyone, and don't give up.

If you get accepted into PRIME, do you have the option of just going the regular MD route?

Anyone know how many interviews they give out to those put on hold until January?

Any idea how long it takes to hear if you get an interview, hold, or rejection after bing complete. I was complete 10/6 and haven't heard anything? Merit a call to the admissions? Thanks

I'm interviewing here mid January and quite excited! Sounds like they have a pretty laid back interview day...

They probably just haven't gotten to yours yet. Given the fact that the committee has three different options to choose from, they would have put you on hold if they were unsure about your application one way or the other.

It's been two months, so they probably have looked at your file (or will do so very soon).

They DO let you know what pile you're in...

There are four piles:
interview granted, hold (will be reviewed in January again), hold (probably rejected), rejected

Some people who've called are just told they are "on hold" while others have gotten a more specific response as to what pile they're in...

I called a while back...I'm in pile 2...

Thanks, I see so probably be best to wait jsut right before the holidays to call or does it matter if I call now? Haha don't want to get them anoyed now

Being on hold looks like it could be good for most people. Complete late august, put on hold in late october and interview invite today!

Within the next couple weeks. I think someone cancelled their interview, because the earliest interview after that was in february.

When you got the hold email, did it say that you wouldn't be reconsidered until January?

I was planning on not even checking my status until January, but now that I know there's hope I might just start checking again, lol.

The UCSD admissions staff is pretty awesome, they have one of the fastest turnaround times after an interview, and they are very helpful throughout the process.

It said I would be reconsidered in January. I'm pretty sure it was the same email that everyone else got. I was pretty surprised that they called.

I just got a secondary application invite on 12/9 and I am working on finishing it soon. But what are my chances at this point in the cycle? I am thinking that if there is no chance for me then they could have not granted me a secondary app.

Don't worry. 😛

There is a 0% chance of getting in if you don't submit a secondary. Plus, they have secondary deadlines for a reason. Submit it if you want to go to UCSD.

Thanks for the encouragement, Yea I am going to definitely send in my secondary as soon as possible 🙂 I was very excited that they gave me one since I was complete in August.
I am really hoping one of the UCs show me some love with an interview

I called and they said I was in the most likely not to be offered an interview pile crap. Is that the hol (probably rejected) or straight up rejected.

I have an interview scheduled for mid-January. I turned in my application mid-October and received the invitation early November.

Strange, too, because UCSD is one of the highest-ranked schools I applied to. I almost didn't apply because I didn't feel too great about my chances (3.7 GPA, 32Q MCAT), and yet it's the only school that has responded positively to my application so far.

Dont worry, I think you should certainly apply and give it a try. You never quite know what each school is looking for.

Good luck on all of your applications!

Did anyone hear back today? I was expecting to hear news and spent the whole day balled up in a knot BEGGING for a phone call... no luck

same here...guess we will have to do more of the same for one more day 🙂

I thought if we didn't hear back today we wouldn't hear back until Jan 4th? (the first Tuesday in January)

I called today around 4 pm (after trying my very hardest to be patient and then finally cracking), and they said I was brought up at the committee yesterday but my decision wasn't in the system yet, and that it would be there by mid-day tomorrow. I interviewed last Monday.

On the plus side, I've never been so happy to have a day in which I didn't get any emails from med schools.

yey just heard back from last week's interview. Got in!!:soexcited:

Congrats to those who got in!

For those of you who signed up for the tour of the free clinic, did you ever receive a confirmation email from the admissions office?

I had to select a date every time I wanted to view the list of potential student hosts and then there would be no confirmation that I am signed up for the tour.

Thanks.

I interviewed there last week. I never received a confirmation, but I got an email from the students organizing the tour the morning of the tour day.

Anyone else get an email about being on hold for possible interview? Also, would anyone know approximately how many people are placed on this hold and how many get an invite? I hope it's in my favor, because I would love to go to UCSD, or at least a chance to interview 🙂

Hey I got this email too. Although I can't give you any information, I was wondering if someone out there can explain whether this email means we're definitely in the "on hold for interview" pile and not possibly still in "on hold for rejection" pile. (See above posts about the two piles if you're lost)

I am pretty sure those who are on hold for rejection have already been rejected ...

well I haven't called, but I did email Sofia Rendon about my status. She responded within a couple of days and said "t takes about 4 to 6 weeks for review. It will probably be after January 2011 that we will know if you have been approved for interview."

I wasn't told anything about any piles! Was complete 11/19 and no hold or anything at all yet. 😕

i was complete mid oct. no hold, reject interview either, ugh whats happeninggg

don't worry, they are closed the last two weeks of december, so we'll probably hear back from them after the new year about status updates.

I submitted my AMCAS in mid June and JUST got the secondary about a week ago. So they def seem to be later in the cycle than other schools. Congratulations to everyone accepted and best of luck to you all!

yeah I know, plus I'm in-state so who knows. But yes they give you 30 days from the date they send it to you to submit it. I assume this is what they did for secondaries they sent out earlier too.

How does interview scheduling at UCSD work? Do they give you a specific date you have to show up or a list of dates for you to choose from?

I'm going to be gone for the latter half of January and into part of February (out of the country) and didn't want to schedule my trip during a time that would conflict with the interview schedules at my schools..Thanks guys!

Wow... I haven't received a secondary (or any notification of rejection pre-secondary) so I figured they have rejected me. But maybe it's not too late??

me neither bpost. I assume we've been rejected. I should've called them earlier and see what was up. They probably would've given me a secondary but meh.

Yeah, but WUbear got a secondary a week ago, so apparently they are still giving out secondaries. But I don't have much hope anyway 🙁. Good luck to you DoctaFuture! We seem to be applying to a lot of the same schools.

ha yeah we are bpost. gl on UCI, should be a relaxed interview/day, at least that's a good amount of the interviewers. As for UCSD, I think they didn't give me a secondary b/c I had AP credit for math instead of taking 3 quarters of math. They have a weird policy w/ AP credit.

They give you a specific date, and strongly discourage you from trying to reschedule. Their email said it would be extremely difficult, and sometimes impossible, for them to reschedule appointments to suit the student's convenience. Therefore, it is to your advantage to be interviewed as scheduled.

That said, if he's already booked a flight, there's nothing wrong with asking. The UCSD Admissions Dept is made up of very reasonable people who would not expect an applicant to book an international flight to make it to interview day.

In my interview invite, they said the earliest date available was March 1st. So unless they are telling people different things, you're good to go. Have fun!

Thanks for telling me what was said in the email!

I haven't booked yet, but plan on doing so within the next week. I was just hoping for an interview invite, and my dad brought up that a possible interview could fall when I'm out of hte country, which would be bad, especially if it's an assigned date.

Hmm, do you mind if I ask when you received your invite? If they're already at the beginning of March and their interview season lasts til the end of March, it doesn't seem like there are many seats available. I'm one of those lucky few are who up for re-review in January, so hmm...
